The game’s recent private playtest has apparently exposed several areas that need improvement, which it’s focusing on to give us the best possible experience. The puzzles in the last game were a sore spot we pointed out in our review, but they didn’t take away from a great narrative and art direction. There’s no reason to expect anything different with Trine 6; however, player feedback will go a long way towards improving the former.

“We will be taking some extra time to add a whole new way to experience puzzles throughout the game, giving our heroes more ways to shine, and improving combat, camera behavior, onboarding, and online multiplayer systems. We know this means waiting a little longer, but we’re confident that the extra time will let us act on what we heard and ultimately create a better adventure for longtime fans, players discovering Trine for the first time, and everyone in between.” For more details, check out the full developer update.

It’s certainly not ideal to be forced to make a nearly three-year wait even longer, but we’re okay with that if Trine 6: Together in Time manages to be as good as it seems to be when it launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. If nothing else, the delay will help it avoid a very crowded September release window, especially with the likes of Control Resonant, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, Silent Hill: Townfall and much more to look forward to.
