Studio co-founder Jason Rubin spoke about wanting to focus on "the highest possible quality" of games with stories of "depth and meaning."

Naughty Dog, a studio known for its games throughout the history of PlayStation, has released a new video celebrating its 40th anniversary. The video features a host of the developers from the Naughty Dog that have worked on projects ranging from Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, the Uncharted series, The Last of Us, and even the upcoming Intergalactic.

While most of the video focuses on the classic games under Naughty Dog’s hat, the developers also spoke about the future of the studio. That includes Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin reiterating the focus on storytelling.

“I hope the future holds more of what Naughty Dog has always done: being at the forefront of making entertainment that is of the highest possible quality, telling the stories it wants to tell, with depth and meaning,” said Rubin in the video. Studio manager and head of operations Alison Mori echoed this statement. “I know our studio will continue to create amazing story-driven, character-based games that touch upon the human experience.”

“It’s really about embodying these characters that are very specific, and strong-willed characters, even though they’re flawed, and then making you connect with them and their journey in a way that, hopefully by the time you’re finished with that experience, you view reality a little bit differently,” said studio head Neil Druckmann.

Intergalactic is the next title by Naughty Dog, and will be the first new IP that the studio has worked on since it released The Last of Us all the way back in 2013. While there is no release date for the game as of yet, Druckmann has described it as being the studio’s “most ambitious”, “most expansive”, and “most expensive” game so far.

“We’re making it, we’re playing it. We’re firing on all cylinders,” said Druckmann about the development of Intergalactic back in September. “I’ve said this before, but I really mean it, I’m really feeling it right now: It’s the most ambitious game we’ve ever made. It’s the most expansive game we’ve ever made, maybe the most expensive, by the time we finish it.”

Druckmann also spoke about the potential for a sequel to Intergalactic if the title ends up being successful by noting that Naughty Dog as a studio doesn’t really tend to plan things like that out in advance. “We don’t tend to plan too much in the future, because we find — and this is something I inherited, it’s just the Naughty Dog culture — that we do our best work when it’s something we’re really excited about, really passionate about,” he said.

He also spoke about the studio discussing starting work on The Last of Us Part 3 after the success of Part 2. However, the team ultimately decided to start work on Intergalactic instead because there was passion behind wanting to work on a new sci-fi experience.

Intergalactic is being developed for PS5. Druckmann has also previously confirmed that he was stepping back from his duties on the TV adaptation of The Last of Us to focus on the upcoming game.

The trilogies considered for inclusion here have a thread running through them, and whilst some can be experienced as a standalone product, they’re really part of an overarching picture portrayed across three entries.

Proof that some of the best things come in threes, these video game trilogies tower precisely because they come in a trio. Their first entries establish a framework, with subsequent entries embellishing mechanics, expanding stories, or introduce new settings or characters before wrapping everything up in a triumphant finale.

Jak and Daxter trilogy

To break away from the linear storytelling in prior triumvirate Crash Bandicoot, Naughty Dog developed a new graphics engine capable of rendering seamlessly connected open environments rife for joyful exploration for their Jak and Daxter trilogy. Ostensibly a third-person action platformer, the series also featured excellent combat and movement mechanics underpinned by the Eco system – a substance that can dramatically enhance player abilities; move sets which became increasingly complex and satisfying as the trilogy progressed.

Leaks have claimed that a 4v4 multiplayer brawler spinoff is in development at Toys for Bob.

Later tonight, The Game Awards will be packed with new showings and announcements for a number of titles, with the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Tekken 8, Final Fantasy 16, and many others confirmed as part of the event’s lineup. Another franchise that might be joining them on the stage is Crash Bandicoot.

Teases and reports over recent weeks have suggested that a new Crash Bandicoot game is set to be announced at The Game Awards, and the series’ official Twitter page has added fuel to the fire. A tweet that recently went up read “what’s everyone doing tomorrow”, with The Game Awards producer and host Geoff Keighley cheekily responding, “Hosting The Game Awards, HBU?”

If leaks are to be believed, Crash Bandicoot 4 developers Toys for Bob is working on a 4v4 multiplayer brawler titled Crash Wumpa League, for which early development and gameplay details were recently leaked. Whether that is the game that ends up getting announced today (if something does get announced, that is) remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more updates.

Early development concept art and prototype gameplay footage on the long-rumoured title have also appeared online.

Rumours of a multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game have been circulating for quite some time now, with reports claiming that developer Toys for Bob is at work on a new competitive Crash title. A newly uploaded video by video game historian Liam Robertson has now revealed potential new details on what the title will be.

Crash Wumpa League, as leaks have frequently called the game, is supposedly a 4v4 competitive multiplayer game, with its roster of playable characters including both, characters from Crash Bandicoot games and newly created original characters. The game is supposedly being built on the Crash Bandicoot 4 engine.

Very early prototype development gameplay footage seems to confirm that though characters will have their own moves, all of them will also be equipped with a glider. Levels are said to be large and freely explorable, with each level having environmental hazards and their own unique gimmicks, like one that sits above an of toxic waste, with varying levels of the waste forcing players to occasionally look for higher points on the map.

The video also mentions cosmetics like skins and gliders, while the cosmetics themselves are also seemingly upgradeable. Robertson also says that the game has been in development for “several years” and was supposed to release within a year of Crash Bandicoot 4, though some issues obviously forced those plans to change. The game was reportedly put on hold as Toys for Bob moved its focus to providing development support for Call of Duty, though the project’s current status remains unknown.

Some new concept art is also showcased. Check out the video below for more.

Activision recently seemed to be teasing a new Crash Bandicoot reveal for the upcoming The Game Awards on December 8. It remains to be seen whether the long-rumoured Wumpa League will finally be unveiled.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is also slated to release on October 18th for PC via Steam after being exclusive to Battle.net.

The Game Awards are always an exciting time, with several world premieres and surprises usually in store. It seems that a new Crash Bandicoot may be on the cards, according to YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh. He received a special “Aku Aku’s Steam-In Pizza Shack” box from Activision, which indicated that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time would release on October 18th for PC via Steam.

But that’s not all. On the bottom of the box’s receipt is the message, “Hungry for more? Try out our new Wumpa Pizza for $12.08!” The number refers to The Game Awards on December 8th. As for the “Wumpa Pizza,” it may be a reference to Wumpa League, the rumored four-player brawler.

Not much else is known about the multiplayer title, except that Toys for Bob is working on it. Stay tuned for further details and potential teases in the coming months.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is currently playable on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Battle.net. Check out our review of the game here.

An insider has claimed that the platforming mascot is set to star in two upcoming titles that haven't yet been announced.

Crash Bandicoot made a long-awaited comeback with its trilogy of remakes back in 2017, which was followed up by a remake of Crash Team Racing and, of course, a long overdue new release in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The franchise has gone unnervingly silent once again since then though, prompting worries that it may have gone back into hibernation- though that might not be the case after all.

@TheRealInsider – a Twitter account that’s recently risen to prominence thanks to a number of accurate leaks for major titles – has claimed that there are two new Crash Bandicoot games currently in the works.

Of course, a multiplayer Crash game has been in the rumour mill for a while, but series fans have been hoping that a new mainline platformer is also in the works. Whether or not that’s the second game remains to be seen.

Who these two alleged titles are being developed by is also a question mark for now. Presumably, Toys for Bob, the developer of Crash Bandicoot 4, would still be in charge of the series, but given Activision’s company-wide focus on Cal of Duty – seemingly to the exclusion of almost everything else – might suggest that things are not so cut-and-dry.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates as always, so stay tuned.

A challenging game and missions are one thing but iffy checkpoint and save systems can make them downright frustrating to complete.

There are a lot of features we take for granted in games like auto-saves and checkpoints. Suffered a terrible death? Chances are you would respawn not too far away and continue onwards. Some games rely on save point placement for their difficulty, like in the Souls series. But some games have terrible save and checkpoint systems that test your patience. Let’s take a look at 12 of them here.

Moon Studios’ acclaimed game had its share of aggravating platforming, accentuated by its checkpoint system. While you had normal save spots, energy could be spent on creating checkpoints anywhere. During difficult sections, you may forget to make a checkpoint or not have enough energy to create one. Thankfully, the sequel forgoes this for a more traditional auto-save and checkpoint system.

Journalist Jez Corden claims a new multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game is in development at Toys for Bob, and could be revealed soon.

Legions of people have been thrilled about Crash Bandicoot’s revival these last few years, but even so, it’s soon going to be a couple of years since the series’ last major instalment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. It seems, however, that we might not have to wait awfully long about the series’ next game- though it might not exactly be what you’d be expecting.

On a recent Windows Central podcast, journalist Jez Corden let slip that Toys for Bob, the studio that made the aforementioned Crash 4, is working on another new game in the series. Interestingly, however, it’s supposedly a multiplayer title- more precisely, it’s apparently a four-player brawler.

Rumours of a four-player Crash Bandicoot brawler, supposedly called Wumpa League, have been floating around for some time now, so this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve heard about such a project. Corden says that it could possibly be revealed soon, so it’ll be interesting to see if the many, many events coming in the next couple of weeks bring a new Crash announcement as well.

If that does happen, it’ll at least be good to know that Toys for Bob hasn’t been relegated purely to Call of Duty support duties.

The stuff of nightmares, these bosses dominated gamers while barely breaking a sweat during the 1990s era of gaming.

The last decade or two of gaming has seen its share of tough boss fights, for sure. However, the 1990s presented some of the toughest challenges in gaming yet and are still infamous to this day. Let’s take a look at 13 of the toughest bosses during that era.

Akuma – Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo

Did you think that M. Bison from Street Fighter 2, one of the toughest bosses in any game ever up till that point, was a wuss? Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo’s Akuma is the fight for you. Accessible only by reaching the last stage quickly without any continues in Arcade Mode, Akuma will appear and waylay Bison, then replace him as the final boss. In terms of abilities, he possesses the Zankuu Hadoken (which fires two Hadoken in mid-air), a teleport for quickly closing the distance, and very quick combos that take off chunks of health. Hilariously enough, his playable version isn’t as powerful but was still considered broken enough to warrant banning from tournaments.

Activision has started sending out Wumpa piñatas to media and influencers, suggesting that an announcement might be imminent.

It looks like Activision is gearing up to announce a new Crash Bandicoot game. The publisher has been sending Wumpa piñatas to media and influencers, which seems to suggest that a new game might be on the brink of being announced.

These packages have been sent in preparation for Crash Bandicoot’s upcoming 25th anniversary, though Activision has, of course, done similar things in the lead-up to announcements previous as well, including with the likes of Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. With the PlayStation Showcase coming up in a few hours and incidentally coinciding the anniversary of Crash Bandicoot, it’s entirely possible that we see a new game announcement soon. Hell, even the official Crash Bandicoot Twitter account seems to be hinting at something.

Rumours of a multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game supposedly called Wumpa League have been doing the rounds for some time now, and interestingly enough, a card accompanying the aforementioned piñatas does mention the word “league” seemingly innocuously. It might not necessarily be related, but then again, maybe it is. Of course, with pretty much every Activision studio currently busy working on Call of Duty right now, there is the question of who would even be making this game, if it is indeed real.

Interestingly enough, earlier this year, Crash voice actor Scott Whyte teased “a fun new project” which may or may not be a Crash game. Read more on that through here.

In July, Activision also launched a Crash Bandicoot Anniversary Bundle, which includes Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.
