Creative Director talks to GameInformer regarding DLC plans for the next Batman game

For those of you who played Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City might remember that each game had a decent amount of downloadable content. Batman: Arkham Origin will follow the same path and be no different when it comes to downloadable content compared to the last two games in the franchise.

Eric Holmes is a Creative Director for Batman: Arkham Origins and recently he had an interview with Game Informer regarding the game’s DLC plans.

Here is what he said in the interview:

“I think the challenge with DLC is finding something worth saying that you didn’t say in the main game, something that adds to the story or universe. Without giving too much away, I think the DC Universe is a very expansive and exciting place and we’re spoiled for choice as far as opportunities.”

“I think it’s important when you’re building any game in any franchise to try and give yourself creative room and not say everything in the main product. One of the terms we used before was leaving a USB port on the side so something else can plug in and go somewhere else, or carving out a little hole that you can answer. If you have a narrative disconnect in your story, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is a mistake. ‘Well where did that character go when he went off and did that? Where did he get that gadget that he turned up with? Or that weapon? How did he find these guys to go and get help from?’ That might be a question you have at the end of the game but that might be placed there intentionally so that you can answer that in a separate story. Rather than have this disconnect, it’s actually a crack in the story that we go and fill in later and have this little revelation as a result of that.”

Sounds kind of sketchy...

Patrice Desilets the creator and game designer behind Assassin’s Creed has made a statement to Polygon earlier today that he has been fired by Ubisoft.

Here is what he had to say regarding his termination at Ubisoft:

“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft,” Desilets told Polygon. “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings.

“This was not my decision.”

“Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game.”

Ubisoft has stated that the company and Desilets parted ways after “good faith discussions.”

After Patrice Desilets quit the Ubisoft team in 2009 and joined THQ, the Assassin’s Creed franchise hasn’t hit the Metacritic highs of Assassin’s Creed 2. Of course, these are unrelated things, so I don’t know what I’m typing here, right?

So the thing is, another guy from the Assassin’s Creed team quits, and he was actually the creative director of the franchise.

Alexandre Amancio, the said guy, joined a marketing team at Cossette, a Quebec-based marketing company. He’s the chief creative officer of that company.

He posted on the company’s blog regarding this, so we came to know some more information regarding this from there.

“Video games and advertising have many common elements. In both industries, we are always looking for new ways to engage the consumer to the brand,” he said.

“In addition, like advertising, the video game industry must now take into account and supply a very important social dimension in its development and strategies. The game is no longer just a game, it’s a community, relations between players, and the brand.”
