Gotta catch 'em all- but, you know, not officially.

Temtem is promising the addictive, engaging monster catching role playing experience in an MMO world that the Pokemon fanbase has been demanding for years but never really got. There’s a lot of eyes on the game as such, with many already enjoying what it has on offer, and with its PS5 early access launch not far away, many more players will likely be joining in soon as well.

Ahead of that launch, developers Crema have released a new trailer for Temtem to provide a brief gameplay overview for the MMO. From battles and monster catching to breeding Temtems and player interactions and much more, the trailer briefly describes some of Temtem’s core mechanics. Take a look below.

Temtem is currently in early access on PC, and will be entering early access for PS5 on December 8. The game will launch in full some time in 2021, at which point it will also be available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S.

The not-Pokemon MMO is getting its console debut exclusively on PS5.

Temtem has been playable on PC for almost a year now, allowing millions of people to test its early access build and see how the idea of a Pokemon inspired MMO shapes up (it shapes up pretty well). Soon, it’ll also be getting a console early access release.

As announced on the PlayStation blog, Temtem is going to make its console debut exclusively on PS5, when it launches on the system with its early access build on December 8. The game is also scheduled to launch for Xbox and Switch, but it doesn’t seem like they will be getting an early access release before the full launch.

Temtem’s full launch will come some time in 2021. When it does, it will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Though it was initially confirmed to launch on Xbox One and PS4 as well, those versions have been cancelled.

The monster collecting game will be on a variety of platforms.

Yesterday, we got a nice and understatement State of Play from Sony that covered several upcoming third party games coming to the PS4 and PS5. A few of those were a surprise, such as Temtem making its way to Sony’s next generation console. The game is a monster collecting game similar to Pokemon, but with MMO elements, and has gotten largely positive buzz on PC. But it won’t be just Sony fans who get to enjoy it on consoles.

As confirmed by Gematsu, while the game has dropped previously announced PS4 and Xbox One versions, the developer did confirm the game would still be coming to the Switch, as well as to the Xbox Series X. They even provided a trailer for the latter that matches the one announcing the PS5 version.

Temtem will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Switch at some point in 2021. The game is currently in early access on PC.

The Pokemon-like MMO has been confirmed for Sony's next-gen console.

Crema’s Pokemon-like MMORPG Temtem has been making waves ever since it launched on Steam in early access earlier thies year (even selling over 500,000 copies in its first month), and it’s now been confirmed that the game will be coming to PS5 as well.

During the recent State of Play broadcast, the same was confirmed along with an announcement trailer, showing gameplay footage from the game, running on PS5. The developers have told IGN that the gameplay was captured in 4K at 60 frames per second, and that the game will be levering that on Sony’s next-gen console.

No other details have been provided yet, but with the game still in early access on Steam and not having seen its full launch, that’s understandable. We do know that Temtem is coming to PS5 in 2021, though a more specific release date than that hasn’t been shared yet.

Temtem is also due out for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Whether or not it will come to Xbox Series X remains to be seen.

Some short-term plans for the creature capturing title.

The Pokemon-like MMO Temtem has been quite the success, selling over half a million sales within a week of release. The game is scratching a certain itch that the Pokemon franchise most likely never will, and it seems developer Crema is in for the long haul as they’re actively planning to improve the title.

The developer shared the first roadmap for the game, a short term one, which you can check out through here. On the list is Ranked Matchmaking and Spectator Modes. New settings, such as islands, as well as a catalog of new Temtems to capture are also there, as you’d expect.

It’s worth mentioning that while Temtem has been successful, it is still an early access title technically. While all of these are planned, as of now, there’s nothing 100% as far as plans go. The game is currently running for PC via Steam, with console versions planned for later down the road, that will include crossplay between various versions.

A roadmap outlining the future will be revealed soon.

CremaGames’ Temtem has seen some very good sales numbers since launching into Steam Early Access. Available since January 21st, it’s sold over 500,000 copies worldwide according to an official tweet from the developer. It may not necessarily compete with the likes of mainline Pokemon titles but that’s still pretty good for an early access game.

And the good news is there’s even more on the way. The developer revealed in a follow-up tweet that it will have a roadmap detailing the future soon. It thanked fans for their support and promised that there was “so much more yet to come!”

Temtem is essentially a monster-taming title where players venture into the wild and catch different creatures (known as – you guessed it – Temtem). One key difference from the Pokemon series is that it’s a massively multiplayer online title. You can run into other trainers and essentially team up with them on adventure. As such, new Temtem, new areas and other mechanics are expected in the future so stay tuned.

"If the power difference is really that huge developers are going to need a lot of time and tweaking to take advantage of it."

The Xbox One Scorpio is supposed to be the most powerful console ever built- and indeed, Microsoft lets no opportunity pass to remind us just how powerful this new system us truly going to be, with adjectives such as ‘beast’ frequently having been used to refer to it by Microsoft executives themselves.

And yet, there is a conceptual problem here- given that each Scorpio game needs to maintain intercompatibility with the existing Xbox One, does all that extra power truly amount to much? This is a question we have often pondered- and so, we posed it to Guillermo Andrades, Creative Director at CremaGames, currently working on Immortal Redneck. Does he think the extra power in Scorpio will functionally amount to much?

“It all depends on the developers,” he said. “Right now what we’re seeing with PS4 Pro is that most games are the same and the changes between the versions are really small (resolution, framerate or more effects). If the power difference is really that huge developers are going to need a lot of time and tweaking to take advantage of it.”

What goes unsaid here is that developers may choose not to utilize that extra power effectively, or at all, to save time and resources- after all, that is exactly what happened with the original Xbox (versus the PlayStation 2), as an example. Microsoft needs to reconcile some of the contradictions inherent within the Scorpio concept.

The kind of thing that is necessary to ensure PS4 Pro support.

Mark Cerny once said that it should be extremely easy to adapt PS4 games to the PS4 Pro. It looks like a lot of developers agree with that sentiment. In an exclusive interview with GamingBolt, Guillermo Andrades, Creative Director at CremaGames, currently working on Immortal Redneck, expressed enthusiasm for just how well developed the development environment for the PS4 Pro is, expressing hope that the development environment for the Xbox Scorpio is similar.

“PS4 Pro is awesome and the development tools are even more awesome,” he said. “It’s a breeze adapting games for it and testing them in the devkits. We’re really excited to support PS4/PS4 Pro. We haven’t tested Scorpio yet, but I hope the development tools also allows you to easily adapt the game and to squeeze all the power it has.

“For us as developers both approaches are fine, we’re just thrilled to make our game available in more platforms and with more customization in each one,” he added, when asked about the differences in approach between the relatively more conservative PS4 Pro, and the dramatic overhaul that is the Xbox One Scorpio.

He also mentioned how the development team is looking into exploiting the resources on the PS4 Pro. “We’re aiming at 1080p@60fps in the non-pro PS4 so we will have a lot of margin to improve the game on the PS4 Pro. We want to up the resolution (4K native or scaled) while keeping the 60fps and also put some custom post effects to improve how the game looks.”

It is good to see that Sony has made development for the PS4 Pro so easy. Going forward, that is going to be what will ensure widespread support for the system from most major games and developers.
