Committed to "helping devs realize full potential of their software on Nintendo systems."

Initially reported by Ripstone creative director Phil Gaskell not too long, Nintendo has officially confirmed to VG247 that it will be supporting cross-play for titles on not only the Wii U and 3DS, but with other consoles as well. It outlined three games – Disney Infinity, Cubeman 2 and Pure Chess – that will be able to communicate with other consoles.

“We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo. We are committed to helping developers realize the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems.

“We can confirm that Disney Infinity from Disney Interactive Studios, Cubeman 2 from Three Sprockets and Pure Chess from Ripstone, all have the ability to play on Nintendo systems while at the same time communicating with consumers using those same games on other systems. Additional games using this functionality are in development.”

As of now, Pure Chess’s cross-platform support will depend on Sony’s go-ahead. Stay tuned for more details.
