Choose from hundreds of different discounted games for the next two weeks.

If your wallet is still recovering from the recent Steam Autumn Sale, then good news: As leaked and then confirmed by Valve in a tweet, the Steam Winter Sale is now available. Hundreds of games have been discounted with the sale ending on January 2nd 2020.

The best part about the sale is that several games that previously weren’t discounted – like the Final Fantasy series – are now on sale. With Final Fantasy 7 Remake out in the coming months, it wouldn’t be a bad time to pick up the original game for 50 percent off. Other titles like Final Fantasy 8, both the original and Remastered version, have also been discounted.

Of course, there are plenty of other franchises that have seen discounts from BioShock and Dark Souls to Doom and Darksiders. It might be best to wait over the next few hours for the store’s traffic to calm down before making any purchases. Stay tuned for more details on other Winter sales coming up.

Looks like those recent reports were true after all.

Reports emerged not too long ago that THQ Nordic would be revealing two new games at E3 2019, one of which would be “a new vision of a beloved franchise”. It didn’t take long for people to do some digging to discover that that was going to be a new Daksiders game– and now, that’s been confirmed

The E3 Coliseum website makes mention of a Darksiders panel to take place on June 13, and confirms that the panel will pertain to a new action adventure title in the series that will be unveiled during E3. This “brand new Darksiders game” will, as per the panel’s description, “take the franchise in a fresh direction”- which should definitely be interesting to see.

If the aforementioned reports are anything to go by, the new game will be called Darksiders: Genesis- though that isn’t confirmed by any means. We should find out soon enough either way.

Not too long ago, THQ Nordic confirmed that in spite of mixed reviews, Darksiders 3 had performed within their expectations, and that Darksiders remains a key IP for them- so it isn’t all too surprising to see them sticking with the franchise.

Could these be the two games THQ Nordic is set to reveal at E3 this year?

E3 is right around the corner, and there’s all types of leaks, hints, and people scavenging the internet to look for any scrap of information leading to some potential reveals. We reported earlier on THQ Nordic’s floor plans that mentioned two new games that they plan to reveal at the show. The company owns a lot of IPs, meaning there’s a lot of ground to cover there. Now, it’s possible we know what those two games could be, thanks to a controversial source.

Earlier in the year, a representative of the company did an AMA on a controversial website. We aren’t going to get into all of that (because boy, what a can of worms- we aren’t even going to name the website in question). But during that AMA someone an employee from the company posted a potential list of games that THQ Nordic could have at the conference, and that employee may have inherently confirmed two new games mentioned in it- a new Destroy All Humans! title and a game called Darksiders: Genesis. You can see the screengrab below.

Destroy All Humans definitely seems to fit with the wording of “galactically beloved game/franchise.” And “a bold new vision” seems like it could make sense for a spinoff of a franchise like Darksiders: Genesis might be. Both those phrases are how THQ Nordic vaguely described their upcoming E3 reveals. We have to file this as rumor for now, largely because of the nature and tone of how this was revealed. E3 is close, so we will know soon enough.

Darksiders would be perfect for Switch.

While Darksiders, both the older games as well as the more recent Darksiders 3, are available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Nintendo’s Switch sadly remains a Darksiders-free zone. Sadly, because the games, which are Zelda-like in structure, and which were on Wii U and did reasonably well there (as well as any game could on Wii U, anyway), would probably go down well with the Switch audience.

Apparently, publisher THQ Nordic might agree with that sentiment. Today on Twitter, THQ Nordic and the official Darksiders account engaged in a little skit in response to a fan suggestion that the game might come to the Switch, implying that the series may in fact be headed to Nintendo’s hardware.

It’s just a tease, and not even an explicit one, and assuming there is any substance to it, we don’t even know what to expect—just the first game? The first two games? Just the third game? All three games? For now, this is just speculation, but I guess keep your eye out for a Darksiders on Switch announcement in the coming months.

Apparently heading to current gen in October.

Following the enhanced port of Darksiders 2 for the Xbox One and PS4, Nordic Games is apparently working on a remaster of the first Darksiders.

This is according to a report by Nextn which says the developer revealed this news over the weekend at Gamepolis 2016. No official announcement has come just yet but the port will apparently be out for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Wii U in October with more information coming at Gamescom.

It wouldn’t be the weirdest thing to happen especially given how much better received the first game was. Nordic Games owns the rights to Darksiders after THQ went bankrupt so aside from Darksiders 3, which we’re still waiting on, this is the best possible use of the license. Will we see a possible double pack of both remasters? One can certainly hope/

What are your thoughts on a port for Darksiders on current gen platforms? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Series designer Joe Madureira promises "exciting news about the franchise soon".

Before THQ went bankrupt, one of its many big franchises included Vigil Games’ Darksiders. The series never achieved the financial success it was supposed to, especially with Darksiders 2, but it always had a great niche appeal to it. Now that the IP belongs to Nordic Games, one would think we’d never see a new Darksiders title.

However, series designer Joe Madureira indicated differently. Posting on Facebook, Madureira told fans that, “Darksiders– DS is not dead! The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!”

We know that the Darksiders franchise will see the original two games released as part of a collection pack with the DLC included. But Darksiders 3? We’ll really have to wait for more details on that. Would you like to see a third game happen though? Let us know in the comments.

Darksiders IP belongs to them.

Lars Wingefors, Nordic Games chief executive officer, has revealed to Venturebeat that he wanted to pick up smaller THQ IPs and wasn’t interested in the bigger ones.

“I believe firmly that we should try to work with the original creators first to see if they want to bring out sequels,” said Wingefors. “They would be best fitted to take the games back to their roots.”

“I do expect new titles from these properties in the next few years. I wouldn’t necessarily say something will happen with the largest IPs, like Darksiders, only because its such a big product. It will be easier with the smaller IPs.”

“I wanted the smaller assets,” he said. “Pretty much everything that was left after the February auction. We were part of the auction in December, but we decided not to go for one of the big IPs because it was just too much money. I don’t want to own a studio. I’d rather own the rights to the IP.”

Crytek wants to make a Darksiders game.

Crytek developers have posted on the Nordic Games’ forums and have told the buyers of the Darksiders IP how to proceed with the game. The studio always wanted the IP and it’s not clear why they didn’t bid for it and if they did, why did they allow Nordic to win.

“As one of the co-founders of Vigil and the lead level designer/principal designer on both games, all I can say is… make it adventurous,” said Ryan Stefanelli.

“And do what we would’ve done: let people know what happens when those other three comets land on Earth! Four player co-op or bust! Good luck to you guys. You’ve adopted our baby.”

“If you actually ever go forward with the Darksiders franchise, be sure to focus on the things that made DS and DS2 cool,” Ben Cureton, lead combat designer at Vigil, added.

“Things like… that feeling of adventure (that Ryan mentioned), the fast-paced combat, the sense of scale, quality voice acting, and don’t forget that Strife and Fury need to be BADASS… whatever you do, don’t forget to crank the BADASS meter up to 11. If you are ever in doubt of what to do… just add more skulls! Oh yeah… it has to be 4 player. It’s a must!

“That being said, if you decide you don’t want to continue making games for the series, let me know. We’d be more than happy to take the IP off your hands. In fact, you can even have all of the money that DS1 and DS2 continue to generate!”

The game would be fun to play with CryEngine 3 since the graphics will undoubtedly look great but it’s not clear what Nordic wants to do with it.

Sweden-based company Nordic Games have picked up Darksiders, Red Faction and MX vs ATV for a total of $4.9 million. This contract also includes franchises such as Supreme Commander, Frontlines, Stuntman, Juiced, Full Spectrum Warror, Destroy All Humans and more.

Lars Wingefors, owner and CEO of Nordic Games Group AB, said, “First and foremost we are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group. In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles.”

He continued, “A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs.”

THQ and Nordic Games are waiting for the US Bankruptcy Count to get the stuff going for sale on May 13th, 2013.

Check out the previous article regarding THQ bids here.

So does that mean that Darksiders finally has a bright future in the next-generation of gaming?

The fate of Darksiders and Red Faction has finally been decided.

In a mad race that saw developers like TeamPixel with a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for acquiring the Homeworld IP and Crytek USA wanting to retrieve Darksiders, since the studio is composed of many ex-Vigil Games staff, the bd for THQ’s remaining intellectual properties has finally closed.

Court documents show that of the 17 bids made, with final offers still pending court approval, the total amounts to roughly $6 to $7 million. As of now, it’s unknown who won the bids but we do know that TeamPixel lost out on trying to capture Homeworld, for which they’ll be refunding various backers.

IPs involved in the auction includ Darksiders, Red Faction, the MX series, and of course, THQ’s licensed software. Wrapping up of the auction’s proceedings was expected to be done by mid-May but it appears things will be well and truly over by May end. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for details on the new IP owners.
