For every Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil, there are numerous underwhelming and outright terrible zombie titles. Check out 10 of them here.

Zombies in gaming have made for some truly memorable experiences. Whether it’s the T-virus infected undead of Resident Evil or Left 4 Dead’s hordes, they can offer both a sense of horror along with campy fun. Of course, there are plenty of bad zombie games that have been released over the years as well. Let’s take a look at 10 of them here.

Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green

Released in 2005, George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead offered strong socio-political commentary in a post-apocalyptic world. It also provided the unique twist that the undead may not be as brain dead as many thought. By comparison, Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green by Brainbox Games is an uninspired FPS where players mow down hordes of zombies in a prequel-esque set-up (which ultimately means nothing in the grand scheme of things). Multiplayer is also a thing and while co-op survival makes sense, other modes like Team Deathmatch don’t. Both were horrible anyway so it didn’t matter.

The gameplay is painfully slow, whether you’re attempting to bash zombies to death or dealing with the clunky gun play. The visuals, from the environments to the zombies themselves, are awful but still somehow better than the audio with its horrendously repetitive music and mundane voice-acting. Sadly, in terms of movie tie-ins, it was par for the course for games released in 2005.

The PS4 version of the game will even have a physical release.

Daymare: 1998 is a throwback to the old school Resident Evil series in its setting (maybe just a little too much of a throwback for its own good), with a modern twist in the gameplay. The game has been on PC for quite some time, but now console users will be able to get in on the action soon.

As announced with a trailer, which you can see below as uploaded via Gemastu, the game will release for both PS4 and Xbox One in April, which is coincidentally (or maybe not so coincidentally) the same month as the next Resident Evil game. The PS4 version of the game will even get a physical release which will be distributed by GS2 Games.

Daymare: 1998 is available now on PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will come on April 28th. You can check out our interview with the game’s developers for more on the survival horror tribute through here.

The survival horror game will come to consoles soon.

It’s been a good year for fans of old school Resident Evil. A damn good year. Hell, I’d argue things can’t get much better than this. Not only did we get the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake, now we’re seemingly about to get the remake of Resident Evil 3 announced soon. If you need more, though, there’s the heavily RE-inspired Daymare 1998.

The game actually started as a fan remake of Resident Evil 2, but shifted into its own thing when the actual remake was announced. The game released earlier this year on PC, and developers Invader Studio confirmed to TGG that the game was still slated to come to the PS4 and Xbox One at the beginning of next year.

“It is finally time to tell you about the console releases date of DAYMARE: 1998!” the developer said. “We can confirm Q1 2020 as the release date for PS4 and Xbox One! The first definitive date is for Japan, 20.02.2020!”

If you just can’t get enough of that old school style survival horror Daymare 1998 will give you an extra bit of gas in the tank before the remake of Resident Evil 3 will come out. For an interview with the game’s developer, check through here.

A trailer to celebrate the game's launch.

Daymare 1998 has had quite the journey. It originally began as a fan remake of Resident Evil 2, and was then shifted into its own project after the actual remake of Resident Evil 2 was announced. The game is out now on Steam, and to celebrate the survival horror game’s launch, developer Invader Studios released a new trailer.

The launch trailer details some of the game’s story, setting and combat. Knowing the game’s origin, you can still feel a lot of the DNA from Resident Evil in what’s here, but if you’re looking for a good survival horror fix, definitely seems to scratch that itch with plenty of bloody combat and nasty creatures. You can also check out a full hour of gameplay if want to see a little more of the game’s combat.

Daymare 1998 is available now for PC. A console version will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date.

The survival horror title finally gets a launch date.

Daymare 1998 has been teased for a good while now. Starting out as an unofficial remake of Resident Evil 2, the game shifted into its own thing when an actual official remake was announced to be in the works. You can still see the influence there, and now you’ll get a chance to play through said influences, as the game is coming soon, with a demo out now.

As announced by the developers, Daymare 1998 will release next month for PC. They’ve dropped a demo, which you can find at the game’s Steam page, if you want to check it out ahead of time. The game promises multiple character POVs, several old school mechanics that are a throwback to older survival horror titles, and several environment puzzles. The combat also looks nice and gory as well. Just to give you an extra little teaser, Invader Studios also dropped a new story trailer introducing us to Sam. Check it out below.

Daymare 1998 will release September 17th for PC. A PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version will come at a later date. The demo is available to download now.

Resident Evil 2 came out at the beginning of the year, giving a shot in the arm to the franchise and bringing back some much beloved old-school horror action. It seems the development on that game is done, but if you’re jonesing for a little more of that old fashioned horror, Daymare 1998 has you covered- and today we got a big look at the game.

Originally an unofficial fan remake of Resident Evil 2, the game has since been reworked into its own thing once the actual remake was announced. Today via YouTube channel Punish, we got on an hour of gameplay footage. You can see the influence of RE pretty clearly, which includes some pretty bloody combat and dimly lit rooms that hide all manner of horror. The game promises ’90s nostalgia and a multi-layered, multi-character story arc that will bring many twists and turns. You can check out more about the story here.

Daymare 1998 is slated for a PC release this summer, with a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release soon after. Check out the video below.

Invader Studios was once working on an unofficial remake of Resident Evil 2 before we got the real thing earlier this year. Since then, they have reworked their efforts to Daymare 1998, a survival horror game in the vein of the Resident Evil series. Today they released a new story teaser for the upcoming title.

While it’s short and doesn’t give you a clear idea of the smaller details of the game’s plot, we do see a rural town in the grips of what looks to be some type of biohazard event. Your character is part of H.A.D.E.S. (Hexacore Advanced Division For Extraction and Search), on the hunt for survivors and the dark secret about what happened to the small town. Daymare 1998 seems to be looking to capture the feel of the ‘90s, from the somewhat tongue-in-cheek voice acting to the clearly Resident Evil-inspired setting and story.

Daymare 1998 is slated to come out Summer 2019 on PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions due out some time after. You can see the official trailer below.

16 zombie games from 2018 and beyond that we're most excited for!

Hey, there’s a lot of Zombie games on the way. Now we’ve also seen a lot of them in the past too, but there’s something about zombies as a genre that ironically, just won’t die. Perhaps it’s all the angles you can approach the subject from. The gritty, depressing collapse of society, the primal human fear of loss of control and individuality, or even just that it’s really, really fun to kill zombies. These are 16 Zombie games from 2018 and beyond that we can’t wait for.

Dead Dozen

Creators of The Wild Eight are hoping to bring Asymmetrical multiplayer to the zombie genre with Dead Dozen. Pitting a team of soldiers against a team of player controller ghouls, the solders have a chance to scavenge for weapons and boosters, as well as set up a perimeter before they take on the ghoul hoard. Dead solders end up joining the side of the ghouls, so each lost man is another to fight against for the human players.

Daymare:1998 is using new age technology to bring us the face of fear.

Daymare: 1998, under development at Invader Studios might have started from humble beginnings as a passion project fan remake of Resident Evil II, but the new survival horror IP isn’t going to stick rigidly to the limitations of its inspiration. Invader has shown off on their Youtube channel the advanced facial motion capture they’re using to bring the terror to life.

Hoping to bring the terror of the 90’s horror movies and games, with a modern sensibility to ground it all, modern cinema techniques are set to be leveraged by Daymare to achieve its vision. While the Unreal Engine 4 is credited with speeding along development thanks to the deep, easy to leverage toolset, the iClone Faceware plug-in is allowing the team to dive even deeper to animating their custom characters.

“The recent addition of the iClone Faceware facial mobcap plug-in gave us the chance to significantly improve the quality of our custom characters facial animations” said Invader PR man Michele Glannone. The video goes more in depth than we have room for today, but you can find it below if you want the deep dive.

Will you be checking out Daymare:1998 when it launches in 2018? Let us know in the comments.

The Kickstarter for Daymare 1998 may have failed, but for everyone who wanted to see the 1990s inspired horror game, there was some good news earlier this week- developer Invader Studios has announced that the game will be hitting Steam Greenlight, and that production on the game will be continuing in spite of its Kickstarter falling short by over $180,000.

“We wanted to share the great news with you all. Thanks to the passion of our supporters, Valve has announced that Daymare: 1998 is successfully greenlit. We are all very excited by this news at Invader Studios. We did not imagine that we would be greenlit this quick and we are grateful to your support,” the studio said in a statement, adding that it will be supporting the game fully, and that it will have more news to share soon.

So yes, in the end, the Kickstarter cancellation turned out to be a bit of a hitch, but it seems like we may end up seeing this game after all. Happy times for all.
