An obvious pick for a list such as this one, Lair is forever going to hold the dubious crown of being one of the most bitter disappointments in gaming. Factor 5’s excellent track record and promising pre-launch showings suggested that Lair was going to be a huge early PS3 hit, but upon its release, the game turned out to be sort of a broken mess, thanks in large part to its frustrating motion-heavy controls. Even now, close to two decades later, it’s hard to get over the disappointment that was Lair.

An official listing has gone up for Dead Island 2 on Steam, confirming that Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver’s zombie-slaying action RPG will be releasing for the platform on April 22, a year and a day out from its initial release last year.

Meanwhile, its 2013 predecessor, Dead Island: Riptide (more specifically, its Definitive Edition), is currently also free for everyone to download on Steam, and will remain free until February 15.

Dead Island 2’s first expansion, titled HAUS, released in November last year. A second expansion, SOLA Festival, is due out in Q2 of this year.

Dead Island 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Deep Silver look set to launch a new, current generation collection of re-releases of Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide as Dead Island Definitive Collection on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to North American retailer Best Buy. The collection will also include a brand new standalone 16-bit game called Dead Island: Retro Revenge.

Both games were released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC last generation. While Riptide met with a lot of criticism, the original Dead Island was generally well received. These re-releases will probably keep the Dead Island brand alive, even as Deep Silver work through the development issues that Dead Island 2 seems to have run into.

As for what Dead Island Retro Revenge is, who knows? Let’s hope it comes to PC too, which will not be getting the Definitive Collection. Maybe a cheap Steam re-release?

The fun first person zombie basher from Deep Silver, Dead Island, was today confirmed to be receiving a a third person survival “mystery spin-off” that picks apart the origin story between the original outbreak of zombies and ties together all the events that lead up to the recently announced Dead Island 2, a sequel to the hugely successful Dead Island.

Set to feature “visceral melee combat set in a beautiful paradise setting”, ESCAPE Dead Island features an all new art style  and gameplay system that sees players once again fighting against hordes of the undead in an attempt to survive the insanity. You’re going to encounter new elements of the Dead Island universe, uncover new secrets related to the outbreak and bring a second death to the inhabitants of the island with a load of new weapons.

ESCAPE Dead Island will arrive in North America on November 18th and in Europe on November 21st, hopefully zombie free, on PS3 and Xbox 360. But just in case, where did I put my boom stick?

Dead Island 2 is taking a very different approach to its online co-op multiplayer than the first game or Riptide did. Unlike either of those two games, which had a fairly traditional co-op setup, Dead Island 2 will have up to seven other people seamlessly joining your game world and helping out- quite like the co-op in 2012’s smash hit PS3 exclusive indie game, Journey- unless you choose to opt out of it. This makes co-op the natural state of the game, as opposed to something you need to set up.

“You can play alone if you want,” said game director Bernd Diemer to GameTrailers, “but as soon as you’re connected and you’re willing to play with other people, they will join your world, your server.

“We didn’t want to make a competitive game where it’s about killing other players and racking up a kill count, because that’s not Dead Island,” Diemer said. “It’s mostly about having fun and playing with other people.”

Dead Island 2 will be out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015. It sounds like it will be a much better game than either Dead Island or Dead Island: Riptide were.

The game has seen a 55 percent drop in sales in the past week, but still continues to do well. It should be noted that the only other title to spend three weeks consecutively on top was Bioshock Infinite, which is currently number 6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is at number 2, with a 60 per cent rise in sales following retail promotions (that popped up in the wake of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ announcement).

The Walking Dead is currently at number 9, while Persona 4: Arena is at number 11. Tomb Raider is still going strong, at number 3, while Injustice falls to fourth place and FIFA 13 drops to fifth place.

This was due to a complete lack of new releases this week to challenge the zombie action title. And the UK does love its zombies.

The second position is again occupied by NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice, a fighting game starring DC Comics’ most well-known superheroes. Tomb Raider managed to scale up a few places to be at number 3 this week, while FIFA 13 followed its lead to go from number 7 to number 4.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is at number 5 this week, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Bioshock Infinite occupying the number 6 and 7 positions respectively.

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Star Trek: The Video Game round out the remaining spots in the top 10 for this week.

This one is pretty simple. Just finish all the main quests of the game.

The Cinema:

Again, pretty simple. Just clear out the  Cinema.

Obtain Level 50:

Gain level 50 in the game.

Obtain Level 70:

Gain level 70 in the game.

Siege Hammer:

Dream Team:

Just complete all the quests cooperatively.

Military Base:

Players needs to access the radio station.

Combat on the roof:

Survive the zombie horde on the roof.

The Collector:

Collect 50% of the collectibles found in the game.

Players need to reach Henderson.

At Your Service:

In order to unlock this achievement, the player needs to rescue 20 NPCs that have been grabbed by monsters. You can do this at many places but the video below (by Youtube user HappyThumbsGaming) shows the best way to unlock this achievement.

Brainless:

As the name suggests, kill 50 monsters by smashing, decapitating or shooting them in the head.

Hurler:

Using melee weapons kill 100 monsters.

Bully:

This one’s a bit funny! Kill 100 monsters with a kick.

Jetboat:

Use the boat to kill 100 enemies.

Juggernaut:

User charge attacks to kill 100 enemies.

Better than the arm

Use the chainsaw to kill 25 enemies.

It’s an Order:

Mark 100 opponents which were then killed by your co-op partners.

King among Kings:

Kill special enemies: Grenadier, Thug, Wrestler, Infected, Suicider, Screamer, Butcher, Floater. This should be easily unlocked should you take your chances and explore the game.

Breaching the Tunnels:

It beat out the previous number 1, Injustice, to attain the spot. Let it not be said that the British don’t love them some good ol’ fashioned zombies.

Digitial Extremes’ Star Trek: The Video Game also debuted quite high at the number 3 position, with Bioshock Infinite down by three places to the number 5 slot. The survivor Lara Croft managed to hang on at number 4 with Tomb Raider however, and is still going great guns.

Most surprisingly, Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen – an expansion to the previous game, which also included the original plus tons of new content – didn’t even crack the top 20. Somewhat disturbing, especially since Capcom wants it to be the next big franchise. We’ll stay tuned in the coming weeks though.

Dead Island: Riptide – the zombie apocalypse cooperative first-person shooter is now out in stores and is available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Dead Island: Riptide is a sequel to Dead Island that was released back in September of 2011.

The original Dead Island became successful thanks to its cooperative play and a good mix of RPG and MMO elements in one single package. Dead Island: Riptide continues what made the original title good and adds a couple of new things such as new enemies, new playable character, different island and more.
