DayZ creator Dean Hall will be revealing his newest game at EGX Rezzed. The expo will take place from March 30th till April 1st and as per Eurogamer, attendees will be able to go hands on with it. A panel will also be hosted by Hall where he discusses his new game.

Hall’s new studio, RocketWerkz, will also likely be up for discussion. The studio currently has five different games in development including Out of Ammo for HTC Vive and Ion.

As for DayZ, the console versions have been in development for a while now. Bohemia Interactive noted last year that they were still in development but 99 percent of the studio’s resources are focused on the PC version. As it stands, whether DayZ arrives this year or not remains to be seen but don’t hold your breath.

What could Hall’s new game have in store for us? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

The MMO simulation sees players try to survive in space.

Microsoft’s E3 2015 conference had its share of surprises, not the least of which included DayZ creator Dean Hall who took the stage to announce his next game ION. As a simulation MMO, ION will see players head into space and try to survive using the laws of science rather than relying on quests and such. Check out the debut trailer for the game above.

ION is inspired by the cult favourite “Space Station 13” and is very much an MMO which players occupy. You’ll work towards colonizing the universe for humanity, building and maintaining large space stations in the process. Environments will be fully simulated so you’ll have to manager power supply and air pressure. Everything is interconnected and Hall’s new studio RocketWerkz has been collaborating with Improbably Studios on the technology.

ION will be heading to Xbox One and PC first and it will be available through the recently announced Game Preview Program. Let us know what you think of the concept in the comments.

DayZ creator Dean Hall talks about the pressure that Microsoft and Sony are both facing.

If you’ve played Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ, you know that Dean Hall isn’t just any one else. This is a man who not only created a mod that became more popular than the original game but managed to monetize it through early access alone. GamingBolt spoke to Hall about a variety of things, but most importantly about the PS4 and Xbox One.

Upon asking whether the Xbox One would be capable of running high end games at 1080p resolution and 60 FPS, Hall replied, “Well, I think that remains to be seen.” He followed up by saying that, “It’s a very exciting time. I would not want to be Microsoft or Sony right now, and I think I’ve said that to them.”

Which makes sense, given the frenzy that’s been created over 1080p/60 FPS games on the current generation of consoles. “That’s a lot of pressure, and the margins are really tight, and the consumers are right in their face with everything. Every decision they make gets torn to pieces on reddit or on the internet.

“It’s a really hard time for them, but good on them for getting in there and doing it. I haven’t looked a lot at the Xbox One or the PS4, I don’t actually own one myself, but what I have seen, it looks impressive. It’s a pretty big step in the right direction, particularly for the PS4. I was pretty critical of the PS3. It was very hard to develop on if you were a third party, but the PS4’s a lot easier to develop on.” This is primarily due to the PC-like architecture of the console.

“I had never worked on a first party PS3 title, but from what I could tell, you got a lot of special, good tools from Sony. Microsoft is coming from a position of strength here where the Xbox was always pretty easy to develop for because it was fairly similar to PC architecture as well. I think their push towards being very indie friendly is something Sony had been doing for a long time.

“I went to an expo in the UK, and saw Sony there doing their ‘We love indies’ thing, and Microsoft really wants to get into that. I think the cool thing is that they’re trying to take the best parts of PC gaming and bring them to consoles, and I hope they do that because I’m not a traditional console gamer, so if they can capture that market, perhaps they’ll capture my interest as a consumer, too.”

DayZ is currently bound for the PS4 but not the Xbox One. What are your thoughts on Hall’s opinions? Let us know in the comments.

However, announcements for other platforms will be made in due time.

Even though Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ will be releasing for the PlayStation 4 after its initial PC offering, it’s by no means exclusive. Creator Dean Hall clarified to Eurogamer that the game would be arriving for other consoles in due time.

“DayZ is definitely going to be a multi-platform title – that’s the firm vision from Bohemia’s standpoint. But we’ll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point.

It still hasn’t been decided whether the game will be an Early Access game as it currently is on PC. “There’s a lot of problems with Early Access on PC that definitely are at the forefront of people’s minds. So when DayZ will release would depend very much on what Sony offers in terms of if it was going to do an Early Access program, what it looks like. Then also the state of DayZ – does it make sense to do it through that?”

What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know below.

The open world zombie title grows in size and scope.

Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ is still a long way from a full release, estimated to be some time in 2015, and creator Dean Hall will be leaving the studio in the coming months to focus on new games, but the open world zombie sandbox title is still pushing forward.

On its latest blog update, Bohemia revealed that, “We are inducting a large number of new people to the team, effectively doubling the whole project.”

The developer is currently still working out all the bugs for the game, which remains in alpha stage, but it will begin incorporating new features in the coming months. These include bases, cooking systems, and much more. It doesn’t seem like that full release may be any closer but hopefully the game will reach beta stage by year-end.

DayZ is currently available on Steam Early Access for PC at $29.99. Have you played it? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Dean Hall talks about a roadmap for a beta as well.

Though DayZ creator Dean Hall will be leaving the project and developer Bohemia Interactive in the coming months, he’s still very much on board as of now when it comes to development. Speaking to Eurogamer, Hall mentioned that DayZ could come to Microsoft and Sony consoles by year end with Steam Machines also being considered.

“Whether that means it’s being actively developed or released… I’d be surprised if any console port could be developed in 12 months; we haven’t fully started developing anything yet for a console.

With regards to Microsoft, Hall said he saw some “really interesting” things. “There were definitely some things they said that I’m not allowed to talk about that I was like, ‘Wow! That’s interesting. Why don’t you tell people that?’ But I guess they want to make sure everything all goes together and that.

As of now, Hall is still unsure whether console versions will be under his purview. “I care a lot about the PC, obviously, and I have nothing against consoles, and there’s some really interesting and exciting things happening. That was one of the cool things about meeting with Microsoft,” he said. “It’s a bit early for me to say whether I’m super-interested in consoles. I would imagine that, at the very least, there would be control and user-interface changes for the consoles.

“People rip on Microsoft and Sony but actually, when meeting with them, they’re definitely legitimately interested in DayZ.”

As for the current alpha status, Hall said that, “The roadmap [for the beta] is end of the year, but we don’t want to release the beta on, like, December 12 or whatever. The beta date would either be prior to the end of the year, so November or something, or it would be pushed to January or February with more QA.” It’s likely a full version will be out by either Spring/Summer 2015. Stay tuned for more details as the year progresses.

Dean Hall will be moving on from zombie survival title DayZ for multiple reasons.

DayZ creator Dean Hall will be leaving both Bohemia Interactive and the project to focus on forming a new studio and chasing the “ultimate multiplayer experience”. After phenomenal success since the launch of the alpha on Steam Early Access, DayZ will be left in the hands of the original development team at Bohemia Interactive.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Hall stated that, “I am a grenade. I have a specific use. I’m really good at risk-taking and making other people take risks, I’ve always been good at that in my life. Like you say, maybe I’ve got the gift of the gab, so I can talk, I can explain something, I can talk people up to the ledge and get them to jump off it.

“That’s what I did with DayZ; I’ve done it twice now [once with the mod, again with the standalone] – two new code teams have separately done it. But eventually, that’s the bad person to have. Eventually, you don’t want the guy telling you to go over the top and get through. So at some point I’ll be a disaster for the project, at least in a leadership role.

“I never intended to be here. And it’s kind of like cooking in someone else’s kitchen: I don’t want to be constantly telling Bohemia that this is how I do it and this is the way we do it.

“Originally I wasn’t going to do this year, but it would be stupid not to, and it would be unfair to the community. I have to be on the project as long as it’s important to. Whether that role is as the leader, whether that role is in a more creative sense…But at a certain point there will be diminishing returns.”

What are your thoughts on DayZ going forward without Hall? Let us know in the comments.

Console port certain if they release PC version without issues.

DayZ standalone could release on the consoles, according to creator Dean Hall’s comments at GDC.

He told The Escapist that if the PC version turns out to be successful maybe the console version could come out as well. Sony has shown interest in the game and it is also the “kind of game that Sony are interested in”, Hall added.

“Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word ‘fuck up,’ the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain,” he revealed. “I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.”

DayZ mod became extremely successful on the PC and a standalone version is expected to be released this year.

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for, Dean Hall today confirmed on the DayZ Tumblr that the Arma II zombie mod is going standalone.

With Hall as project lead, the mod will be developed into a standalone game by Bohemia Interactive, creators of ArmA II.

Developments and updates of the mod will still happen in conjunction with the full game, following what Hall calls the “Minecraft development model”, quick iterations and community Alpha available at a huge discount.

The game will gain its own website, www.dayzgame.com, with the mod still running from the existing site. Question is, will Day Z be coming to consoles?

Bohemia Interactive are showcasing DayZ at this years gamescom.
