Essentially, it's all Chico's fault. Let's start with that.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes may be a prologue to the upcoming The Phantom Pain, but it has its own place in setting up the events to follow. Konami has recently revealed the story synopsis for Ground Zeroes, along with some new details on the PlayStation exclusive mission “Deju Vu”.

Ground Zeroes starts in 1975, with the MSF attaining nuclear weapons. This doesn’t sit very well with the rest of the world and a nuclear inspection is ordered for Mother Base. However, before the inspection, Snake discovers that Paz, last seen in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, is alive at a US naval base in Cuba. Chico tries to rescue her but to no avail, which leads to Snake lacing his sneaking boots up again to attempt a rescue of his own.

Meanwhile, the Deju Vu mission will aim to recreate the first mission from Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action within Ground Zeroes. We’re not sure exactly what all that entails, especially with Konami stating that you can “relive the most memorable moments of the past”. We’ll find out when Ground Zeroes releases on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 in early 2014.
