Embark on an early puzzle platforming adventure with Captain Toad.

Nintendo’s Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is coming to the Nintendo Switch and 3DS next month but in the meantime, the Nintendo eShop has a free demo for those who want to try it. After going live in Europe, the demo is now available for North America as well.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker follows the eponymous Captain Toad as he navigates through levels to locate Power Stars (along with saving Toadette, who latter becomes a playable character). Levels aren’t your typical Mario platforming stages – instead, Captain Toad must find ways to traverse them without being overwhelmed by enemies. There are some cool on-rail shooting sequences on a minecart though.

Though the Switch port will feature bonus stages from Super Mario Odyssey, they will be replacing the previous bonus stages inspired by Super Mario 3D World. Whether these will be added later, either as free or paid DLC, remains to be seen but Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is out on July 13th.

343 Industries’ Halo Wars 2, developed by The Creative Assembly (of Total War: Warhammer fame), is currently available for Xbox One and Windows 10. However, if you want to try the game out without buying it, then Microsoft has announced that the free demo is now available for Xbox One. The Windows 10 version will be available “soon”.

In the demo, players have access to one campaign mission “The Signal” along with Blitz Firefight mode, the new card-based multiplayer mode. This version only allows you to fight AI foes with a pre-built deck. You won’t be able to matchmake with other players.

Halo Wars 2 received fairly good reviews from critics but launched without the promised ranked multiplayer mode. 343 Industries has noted that more work was required for the same but you can expect it to arrive “soon”.

What are your thoughts on Halo Wars 2? Let us know below and stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.

If you felt robbed that PS4 players got experience nothing but Resident Evil 7 goodness with the various demos released till now, then there’s a silver lining. Capcom has announced that the demo will be launching for PC via Steam on December 19th.

It will include the Beginning Hour demo and its two updates – Twilight and Midnight – thus allowing players to explore a variety of frightening rooms from first person perspective while using a handgun and viewing various endings. PC players will also be able to play with the different graphics options available though PC-specific settings are yet to be revealed.

PS4 fans did recently receive the final update for the demo at PlayStation Experience. Whether this comes to PC as well remains to be seen but it’s not a long wait now for the game’s release. Resident Evil 7 is out on January 24th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One with the VR version exclusive to PlayStation VR.

Update: The demo is also coming to Xbox One on December 9th.

Unexpectedly, Red Barrels has announced that a demo for Outlast 2 is now available for PS4 and PC users to try out. The Xbox One version isn’t available yet but a representative for the developer told GameSpot that it will be available soon.

Outlast 2 takes place in Arizona where you, Black Langermann, and your wife, Lynn, work as investigative journalists to solve the murder of a pregnant woman. The game promises a deeper level of horror than ever before and judging by how insane the first game was, we’re already spooked by the possibilities.

The free demo is a 7.4 GB download on Steam and will be available up till November 1st. Though you can still play it after that date, it’s likely that the demo won’t be downloadable.

Outlast 2 is out in early 2017 for current gen platforms though it was originally slated to release by Fall 2016. Are you playing the demo? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The spiritual successor to Mega Man sees another delay.

Comcept’s crowd-funded Mighty No. 9 has faced another delay but this time for its demo which was supposed to go live on September 15th for backers.

In a post for the current robot design contest, Comcept revealed that, “Finally, we know that all of our fans are looking forward to the Special Demo Version we are preparing, and we just ask that you be a little more patient.

“The team is working on it, but some issues popped up regarding the distribution method so there is a good chance it will not be ready to launch by the 15th. We are really sorry for the inconvenience.”

At the time, backers were not made aware of the delay – which makes news of it appearing as a footnote in another post somewhat clumsy. Mighty No. 9 has already suffered its own delay, releasing in Q1 2016 instead of this year for the full version. What are your thoughts on the delay of the demo? Let us know in the comments.

And thankfully, we won't have to wait another 8 years for the full game to release.

Since it’s been acknowledged that Final Fantasy 15’s director is Hajime Tabata, the man also responsible for bringing out Final Fantasy Type-0 HD to the Xbox One and PS4, there have been more updates on the overall content. Speaking to GameSpot, Tabata stated that there’s been a fair amount of progress since he joined the project and that fans won’t have to wait too much longer for the full release.

“It’s about 55 percent complete, but the quality of the demo itself, compared to the final product, is about 80 percent.” As for whether we’ll have to wait another eight years, Tabata said, “definitely not. I’m afraid we can’t say how long it’s going to take from here. But, since the transition to XV, we’ve gotten this far in two years.

“The game was first established as Final Fantasy Versus XIII for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, and we transitioned to Final Fantasy XV for next-gen consoles. That transition was made about two years ago, and I was put in charge of that project. Since then, we’ve re-evaluated the development team, the development structure, and the process.”

Tabata also revealed that the key purpose for putting out a demo was “because there are fans that have been waiting for eight years, and because it’s in a playable state, we want to bring it to the fans as quickly as possible. If you play through the story campaign, it should be about an hour of gameplay. But, that being said, there’s also the world map and there are different monsters that appear, as well as dungeons. So it should allow for 3-4 hours of gameplay.”

The Final Fantasy 15 demo will be offered as a download voucher with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD when it releases in March 2015 for North America and Europe.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD arriving on March 17th 2015 in North America.

Due to a Game Informer story that was subsequently pulled (which can be viewed here), it seems that Square Enix has a demo planned for Final Fantasy 15 in 2015 on the Xbox One and PS4. It’s the best news in a while concerning the game’s upcoming release, especially since it’s been in development for several years. The demo will allow you to play the opening sections of the game apparently.

Until then, Final Fantasy Type-0 fans will be busy playing the HD remaster on Xbox One and PS4. It will launch on March 17th 2015 in North America and contains a voucher for downloading the Final Fantasy 15 demo.

Of course, just because a demo for Final Fantasy 15 is due soon doesn’t mean the game itself will be out next year. Given the number of high profile delays, we wouldn’t put it past Square Enix to delay the game in the lead-up to its release. What are your thoughts on this news? Let us know below.

Step into the octagon with Jones and Gustafsson.

If you’ve been curious to give EA Sports UFC a whirl before its release, then EA has announced that a demo for the MMA game will be available on June 3rd for the Xbox One and PS4.

The demo can be downloaded through PSN or Xbox Live and will feature both Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson as playable characters. Both characters are also on the game’s cover and the demo will be touted as a rematch between the two. This is because Jones and GUstafsson has a controversial fight that ultimately ended in a bloodied Jones’s favour.

The full release of EA Sports UFC will be out on PS4 and Xbox One on June 17th. Among other new additions, it will also be the first time that female fighters like Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate are playable. Stay tuned for more news on the game in the coming week and let us know whether you’ll pick up the demo.
