While Devil May Cry 5 will continue the story of Devil May Cry 4 from eleven years ago when it finally launches next year, there was another Devil May Cry game that we got in the interim: DmC: Devil May Cry, a reboot of the action game franchise led by Ninja Theory. Owing to the game’s controversial aesthetics (mostly), it turned out to be a hugely divisive game, dividing series fans on its quality and merits.

With Devil May Cry 5 seemingly going straight to the original storyline, many would assume that DmC has been quietly forgotten and swept under the rug by Capcom, right? Well, not really. Matt Walker, producer at Capcom, emphasized to VG247 that Capcom remains proud of what DmC did, and that they will be taking what they learned from it and applying it to Devil May Cry 5.

“This is definitely a game for the fans – we’ve heard fans asking for a sequel to the storyline of DMC4 for over ten years. But this isn’t a slight at Ninja Theory or DmC at all. We all love DmC,” Walker said. “[Devil May Cry series producer Hideaki] Itsuno-san himself has explicitly stated that in his mind, DmC is just as important as any of the other titles in the series, and he’s just as proud of it. That game had an amazing world all its own, that could only have been produced by the amazing artists and imaginations at Ninja Theory.

“We learned a lot from working with Ninja Theory on that title, and we hope that they benefited in some way as well. Itsuno-san has stressed several times in conversations with me that he’s taken what he’s learned from working on DmC and applied what he’s learned specifically to what we’ve done on DMC5.”

Honestly, I am glad about this. DmC had its own share of issues, but it was a great game that wasn’t given a fair chance by many people. While, for now, it seems like the door has been closed on that story, I hope its spirit and successes live on in whatever direction Capcom chooses to take the series into in the future. Devil May Cry 5 launches next year for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

More twists and turns than a winding road.

I have mentioned this time and time again, that the basis for a good game to keep the player engaged and enthralled is a good story, a story that has many twists and turns to keep the gamer on their toes and on the edge of their seat. Sure the game can look good and the graphics can be spectacular, but if the game doesn’t have a good story, then it fails, and it fails badly.

Companies like Bioware have almost mastered the art of storytelling and have given us amazing games, like Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic, Mass Effect series and Dragon Age series that have really kept us guessing and wondering where the stories will take us. The gaming audience these days demand compelling and complex stories, that would challenge them and make them think. And what is even greater than that is when the story writers make plot twist that can either make the story an even greater one to explore or make it a total dud. With that said, here are some games that have had some twists and turns of their own to keep us guessing and coming back again.

Mass Effect 3

Let me just state for the record that I absolutely loved Mass Effect 3 and everything about it that made the game what it was, but nobody could have anticipated what the ending could have been. Many long time fans including myself had invested a lot of time in the right choices and were hoping to see some sort of awesome closure at the end, but the ending was quite a doozy. Now provided a player has gathered a large military force, all three possibilities for dealing with the Reapers, will be present. The choices that the player had at the ending were 1. control them, 2. destroy them, or 3. merge with them create a synthesis of some kind. Now granted that Bioware released an extended cut DLC, but the damage had already been done. What this ending had done was basically not give any sort of good closure to the game and fans were expecting a lot more, given that they invested a lot of time into all three games.

With a rainbow of choice for speedruns out there, you're sure to find what you like but these are some of best you will come across.

Speedruns have been around forever. As long as there’s been games, there have been gamers who are constantly looking to outdo one another in seeing how quickly they can complete a speedrun.

Games like Sonic the Hedgehog Mario and Contra have always been some popular classic speedruns that many of us at the very least attempted when we were younger. There are some great new games too that people have began to try and beat faster and faster. Some games have even started to include achievements on based on how quickly a player can complete a mission, level and obviously even the entire game. Let’s take a look at some really great speedruns, from classics we’ve grown up on to new titles that people have played so much that they can seemingly complete these titles in their sleep as they strive to get the perfect run for speedy perfection.

1.Mario 64 Speedrun:

There are quite a few of these out there actually and apparently more than one way to do it. Some gamers try to collect as many of the stars in the game as they can when completing this speedrun. Other’s seem to completely ignore the stars and just power through the game as quickly as they possibly can. The amount of time it takes to do these different runs is pretty drastic.

If they collect no stars it looks like it can be done in under six minutes, if they decide to get the stars it takes decidedly longer; as in well over an hour. The fastest run that exists as far as we know is the run made by Mitjitsu, a gamer who was able to beat Mario 64 in five minutes and 47 seconds. I think this game took me months of frustration and just random exploration to beat, but for this particular gamer it took less time than it takes to cook a frozen pizza.

Capcom's 5 essential titles.

Intentional or not, the cat’s our of the bag for the new Capcom Bundle release, as online retailer, EB Games has posted the details on their company website.

At $59.99, you’d be expecting quite a deal for a bunch of already released games. It looks as though Capcom delivered, packing their PlayStation essentials bundle with exactly that: Some of the most essential Capcom titles ever released.

First on the list is Devil May Cry 4, which received a 9/10 from Game in former and an 8.7/10 from IGN. Devil May Cry 4 was heralded for it’s non-hand holding approach upon it’s release.

Next on the list is Dead Rising 2, an obvious choice and fan favorite series. With Dead Rising 3 soon approaching, we’re sure fans will be clamoring for a replay of the prequel.

Moving on we have Super Street Fighter 4, which won the IGN editor’s choice award, with IGN calling it “a superior version of one of the best fighting games around.”

Resident Evil 6, while it received mixed reviews from aggregate gaming sites, received an editor’s choice award from GameTrailers.com and rave reviews from PlayStation Universe and CNET.

Finally, the list ties up with MegaMan 10, released on the respective online stores for PlayStation, Wii, and Xbox to universal acclaim.

Clearly this bundle of games is packed with geeky goodness. The question is, is this assortment of games going to catch the eye of the general gamer? It’s certainly caught ours.

Pre-order numbers for Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 apparently match those of DmC in Japan.

Our modern age is full of many mysteries, but none more so than the apparent sales figures of Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry. Released recently for PS3 and Xbox 360, sales figures are starting to come out for Japan.

The results? About 110,429 copies sold on PS3, with the Xbox 360 averaging a measly 6,000 copies according to Media Create. Compared to Devil May Cry 4’s 205,390 copies on the PS3 and 40,023 copies on the Xbox 360 when it launched in 2008, that’s quite underwhelming.

However, Media Creates surmises that it was casual fans who decided to skip the latest edition of Capcom’s action series. Why? Because pre-order sales for the PS3 version of DmC are roughly the same as Devil May Cry 4’s.

Of course, there’s been no confirmation from Capcom on whether the game is doing well or not. Sales figures from Europe indicate the game has sold much less than its predecessor at launch but is still doing really well. Let’s not even get into the number of Devil May Cry 4 copies that were bundled with consoles at the time.

But when stacked against the game’s overall development and marketing budget, has it done better than previous entries? That remains up to Capcom to confirm.

There are some pretty sweet deals up on Steam if you’re thinking of pre-purchasing DmC: Devil May Cry right now.

If you purchase the game right now, you can get it for $49.99, and also get the costume pack downloadable content for free. However, that’s not even the real deal.

You can spend a few extra bucks and get the game for $59.99 over here. Why’s this deal so good? Because you get the awesome Devil May Cry 3 and the only decent Devil May Cry 4 for free along with DmC itself (well, of course). And you get the Special Edition for DMC3, no less, which means you also get to play the Virgil campaign.

Which means you’re practically saving upto $30 compared to how much you would have to spend if you bought these games individually.

But make sure your PC can run the game before you purchase it. Get the system requirements here.
