I don’t know what the deal is with these companies when it comes to the Switch, but here we are. A few weeks after GameStop had a store promo for people trading in a Nintendo Switch towards a Nintendo Switch, Blizzard have decided to share their own take on this brand of absurdity.

The official Diablo account on Twitter posted a contest offering the Diablo 3 Switch bundle as a prize. That’s good, right? That’s the kind of thing companies do often when they are trying to promote a new release. However, to win this Diablo 3 Switch bundle, you need to send a photo of yourself playing Diablo 3. On the Nintendo Switch. Maybe it’s just me, but if I had a Nintendo Switch already, and I had Diablo 3 on it already… why would I want a Diablo 3 Nintendo Switch bundle? It looks cool, but not that cool…

But hey, if you want to enter, you know what to do. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection is available now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC.

It looks like all the data mining fueled speculation was right all along, because Blizzard today announced a new Diablo themed Amiibo. The Loot Goblin Amiibo is the first time a western AAA third party game has received its own Amiibo (though there are plenty of third party ones that have come before—Mega Man, Pac-Man, Sonic, Bayonetta, Shovel Knight, Solaire), and it’s coming in commemoration of the Switch version of Diablo 3, which is out now.

The Loot Goblin Amiibo, however, will come out in December. As for what it does in-game, well, we don’t actually know. All the announcement said was that it will be a “portal to untold riches”, which doesn’t tell us a lot when it comes to a game about collecting loot, other than that we will get loot.

We also don’t know the price for it yet, though we can hope it will be the standard price ($15-$25). Diablo 3: Eternal Collection is out now for Nintendo Switch. It is also available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, and PC.

Nintendo seems to be putting a lot of support behind the upcoming Diablo 3: Eternal Collection for the Nintendo Switch. It’s a port of a six year old game, but the way Nintendo is treating it, you wouldn’t know it. They have already, for instance, announced a special edition Switch bundle for the game—and it seems like there may be more goodies on the way, too.

Posting on the Diablo subreddit, Reddit user JustMaku talked about how a datamine of an early copy of the game seems to suggest that Diablo themed Amiibo may be on the way. Amiibo, for those of you who are out of the loop or have somehow forgotten, are Nintendo’s toys to life initiative that are cheap but well made figures unlocking bonus content in compatible games. While Amiibo are typically reserved for first party games, some third party titles, such as Shovel Knight and Dark Souls Remastered, have seen Amiibo releases too.

All of which is to say it’s not unlikely that something like this happens—though it does beg the question of why it wasn’t ready for the game’s launch, at least. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection launches for Nintendo Switch on November 2.

We already know that online multiplayer is now, sadly, paywalled on the Nintendo Switch as well, behind the new Nintendo Switch Online service. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, coming to the Switch, is one of the games that we know will be supporting said service. However, the wording regarding this has been a bit confusing, and has led to some panic amongst some circles.

Specifically, people have been concerned regarding whether or not the Seasons mode for the Switch version of the game will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription too. To be clear, this is separate from the actual online multiplayer component of the game.

However, now Blizzard themselves have stepped in to clear the air: they have specified that, no, Diablo 3 Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch will not need Nintendo Switch Online for Seasons mode. It will need it for online play proper, but not for Seasons mode. This mimics how the game works on PlayStation and Xbox as well.

“I see there’s some confusion about the necessity of the Nintendo Switch Online service in relations to the upcoming Diablo 3: Eternal Collection. To clarify, access to playing Seasons does not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. However, access to online multiplayer does. This is identical to the way gameplay features function for the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Diablo 3 as well. Hope this makes the situation more clear!” they said on their forums.

So that’s good news for everyone, then. Diablo 3 launches for Nintendo Switch on November 2. It’s out now on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. Nintendo will also be launching a special Switch bundle with Diablo 3 in November, for those of you who are big fans of the franchise.

Diablo has been a hot topic for its fans lately. On top of Blizzard Entertainment confirming that several Diablo projects were in development and would be announced later this year, it also confirmed a presentation for BlizzCon 2018. “Diablo: What’s Next” will take place right after the opening ceremony. If that sounds like a big spotlight for the franchise, it most certainly is.

However, in a recent post on the Diablo 3 blog, Blizzard seems to be quelling some of the rumours. It writes, “BlizzCon 2018 is almost here and we’ve seen a lot of rumors flying around about our plans for Diablo at the show. These are very exciting times—we currently have multiple teams working on different Diablo projects and we can’t wait to tell you all about them…when the time is right.

“We know what many of you are hoping for and we can only say that ‘good things come to those who wait,’ but evil things often take longer. We appreciate your patience as our teams work tirelessly to create nightmarish experiences worthy of the Lord of Terror. While we won’t be ready to announce all of our projects, we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show.”

It then outlined that Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will be available for the Switch on November 2nd. Those picking up the game, which will be available for digital download at midnight, are invited to bring their consoles to Anaheim for some demon slaying. The real question is: Will Diablo 4, or whatever the next major game is, truly be skipping BlizzCon? Or is Blizzard playing mind games?

We’ll have to wait and find out. However, when Blizzard said that Diablo wouldn’t be present at last year’s BlizzCon, it was serious. So draw your own conclusions.

Given Blizzard’s history with “accidental” leaks, many were suitably suspicious when Diablo: Reign of Terror merchandise appeared in the Blizzard Gear Store. Was this referring to a new expansion? Perhaps the suspected HD remaster of Diablo 2? With how closely the poster and T-shirts were revealed to BlizzCon 2018, many assumed it was upcoming new content.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. A spokesperson for Blizzard spoke to GameSpot about the merchandise and noted, “These are names and copy used for some of the new products available at BlizzCon this year, and not direct references to content at the show.”

Blizzard has, however, confirmed that Diablo will be present at the show. The action RPG will be featured on not one but both days. In fact, the “Diablo: What’s Next” panel will take place right after the main stage keynote, which is essentially the opening of the convention. Compared to the game’s presence last year (read: non-existent), this is a big deal, and we can expect something to be announced.

This is also bolstered by Blizzard itself confirming that new Diablo projects were in development. We already know about Diablo 3: Eternal Collection coming to the Nintendo Switch (sadly without cross-play support planned) on November 2nd. While some of the other projects may take time to release, there’s no doubt that BlizzCon 2018 will belong to the Lord of Destruction. The convention takes place on November 2nd and 3rd, so stay tuned for more coverage.

Nintendo is really going all in on Switch bundles for this holiday season. We have one announced for Pokemon, one for Smash Bros., one for Mario Tennis, one for Fortnite, and now, they have announced one for Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, which launches on Switch in November, as well.

This bundle will include a limited edition Nintendo Switch console, with a specially etched dock, a special Diablo 3 themed carrying case for the Switch, a download code for the game, and, most interestingly, special etchings on the back of the Switch console itself. It will come for $360 total, and in North America, be exclusive to GameStop and EB Games (though no such retailer exclusivity seems to be in play in Europe).

Nintendo also released a new trailer showing off this new bundle, which you can see for yourself below. It’s certainly interesting to see the company be willing to bundle third party games with its systems too. It makes for a nice change from routine.

Diablo 3 is available now on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. On Switch, it launches on November 2.

UPDATE: We have received a statement from Blizzard regarding cross-platform implementation in Diablo 3: “While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.”

Following Sony’s about turn on their stance on cross-play, we’re now seeing more and more games considering the possibility of including support for it across all systems. One such game is Blizzard’s dungeon crawling RPG, Diablo 3.

Speaking to Business Insider, a Blizzard representative confirmed that they’re working on cross-play support for Diablo 3. Though they haven’t announced anything official yet, they’re working with both Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-platform play for the game in time for its looming Nintendo Switch release. According to the Blizzard rep, it’s only a matter of time. “It’s a question of when, not if,” they said on the issue.

Given the massive player base Diablo 3 has across all the systems it is currently available on, as well as how reliant it is on multiplayer mechanics, the game would benefit greatly from having cross-play enabled. Here’s hoping Blizzard make an official announcement sooner rather than later.

Diablo 3 is currently available on PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360, while it’s slated for launch on the Nintendo Switch with Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on November 2.

One day before BlizzCon 2018, Diablo will roam the Earth once again, but this time, he’ll be on Nintendo Switch. Blizzard has announced that Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will hit the platform on November 2nd, bringing the base game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, and the Rise of the Necromancer character pack for $59.99 collectively. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will take advantage of the Switch’s functionality by allowing four players on a single screen. It’s also possible to link consoles and play wirelessly, or head online and play via Nintendo Switch Online. Also exclusive to this version is the Ganondorf armour set, inspired by the villain of The Legend of Zelda series.

On top of endlessly scaling Greater Rifts, Adventure Mode for completing Bounties across different acts, and seven classes to play with (each with their assorted gear sets and items), Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will also have Seasons. This a period where players can create new characters and complete challenges for the sake of Seasonal rewards, gear sets, and leaderboard rankings.

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch, making it the first Blizzard game to release on a Nintendo console in almost 20 years. Of course, given that context, plus the fact that Diablo 3 is generally one of the most popular games of all time, there’s a fair bit of excitement surrounding the release.

We still don’t know when the game is due out on Switch, since we have only been told it is some time later this year (I assume it is meant to be announced in the delayed Nintendo Direct presentation), but we do know what the box art for the game looks like, thanks to the game’s product listing on Nintendo’s site. It is exactly what you might expect it to look like, except it has this big old badge on it announcing the inclusion of the Ganondorf gear. It reminds me of the good old “featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series” badge that was affixed on copies of Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
