The studio is looking to expand and "establish our own identity." Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella is still part of management.

DICE LA, recently announced to be working on an “undisclosed” mode for Battlefield 2042, is now called Ripple Effect Studios. In an official post, the company noted its ambition to “become a studio that excels at everything — not just making games but also the process of how we make them. We want to reach a super level of quality in everything we do, no matter how big or small.”

GM Christian Grass said, “We’re so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we’ve developed our own culture and our own way of doing things. We’re excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity.” Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella is still managing the studio and is working with Grass to bring in “an influx of talented developers, artists, and engineers.”

Zampella said, “The talent here has a great track record of producing high-quality titles, and the studio’s set to make even more incredible games in the future. With an amazing new campus coming to Los Angeles and remote positions available, now is a great time to consider joining us.” Along with the unannounced mode for Battlefield 2042, the developer is also working on a yet-to-be announced project.

Ripple Effect Studios has quite the history. It all started with DreamWorks Interactive, which was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2000, and was renamed to EA Los Angeles. In 2010, it would be renamed again to Danger Close Games which was in charge of the Medal of Honor franchise. Following the poor reception to Medal of Honor Warfighter, the studio was shut down in 2013 and the remaining staff moved to DICE LA.

Though mostly functioning as a support studio, Zampella joined as its lead in January 2020 and announced plans to rebrand along with releasing a new game. It may be fairly early but perhaps we’ll learn more about this at EA Play Live on July 22nd. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

New details may have potentially leaked on the undisclosed Battlefield 2042 multiplayer experience developed by DICE LA.

Battlefield 2042 is going all-in on multiplayer, but it seems the shooter is primed to deliver a pretty dense experience nonetheless. Several modes have been confirmed so far, but there’s also a third “undisclosed” multiplayer mode being developed by DICE LA. Described by EA as “a love letter to Battlefield fans” and an experience that will allow players to “enter the wide universe of Battlefield“, there’s a lot about it that’s still shrouded in mystery.

Leaker Tom Henderson, however, has been on the forefront of Battlefield leaks for several months, and has said in the past that this mode is allegedly going to be called “Battlefield Hub”, and will feature classic maps, weapons, vehicles, and more. Now, in a recently uploaded video, Henderson has gone into greater detail, claiming that Battlefield Hub will feature maps from previous games remastered in the Battlefield 2042 engine, with vehicles and weapons from older games.

Henderson also says the Battlefield Hub will support a maximum of 128 players on PC and newer consoles, but 64 players on PS4 and Xbox One, just like the other multiplayer modes. This new mode, according to Henderson, “isn’t necessarily going to be a competitive experience or a balanced experience”. He says: “This is going to be the ultimate sandbox experience where players are just going to be able to have fun.”

Meanwhile, Henderson also speaks about Hazard Zone, one of the multiplayer experiences in Battlefield 2042 that have been unveiled so far. According to him, Hazard Zone is going to be a free-to-play mode, which would certainly make sense, given the stiff competition the series has from other major players in the free-to-play stuff.

Henderson has been on the money with most of his Battlefield-related leaks, but even so, until details are revealed officially, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. EA has said it will be unveiling more details on the game and this undisclosed mode at EA Play Live on July 22, so we’ll know soon enough.

Battlefield 2042 is releasing on October 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

"The experience that DICE LA specifically is building is this love letter to our long-term players and fans," says Battlefield 2042 design director Daniel Berlin.

Battlefield 2042 has been officially unveiled, along with the surprising news that the game is going to be a multiplayer-only experience. But though there is no single player campaign this time, DICE is promising the series’ most ambitious online experience yet. Breakthrough and Conquest are returning, while a new mode called Hazard Zone has also been confirmed. In addition to that, the game is also going to have an additional, as-of-yet-undisclosed mode.

This mode is being developed by the Vince Zampella-led DICE LA, who were confirmed to be working on Battlefield earlier this year. In a press release, EA teased this multiplayer experience, described the mode as “another exciting new game-type for the franchise” and “a love letter to Battlefield fans and one that long-time players will feel right at home with.” It will be unveiled at EA Play Live on July 22.

Battlefield 2042 is out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 22. It’s been confirmed that it will cost $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

DICE is finally ready to take the wraps off of its next big Battlefield game. The reveal will happen at 7 AM PDT/4 AM CEST.

Electronic Arts and DICE have confirmed through the game’s official Twitter that the next Battlefield will be revealed on June 9th. It will take place at 7 AM PDT/4 AM CEST.

Battlefield 6, as it’s currently being referred to, has seen quite a lot of discussion in the past few months. A rumor from March claimed that the game would be revealed in May. Subsequent rumors claimed there would be a future setting, 128-player battles and dynamic weather. DICE noted that a reveal was coming soon while also touting how it would have, “Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before.”

Screenshots for the game would then leak online. Electronic Arts later confirmed a reveal for June along with Xbox One and PS4 versions. At this point, all we officially know is that the next Battlefield will be out in holiday 2021. It will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details next week and at EA Play Live on July 22nd (where an alpha is rumored to be announced).

The next Battlefield will be "even more spectacular" on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 though.

Following rumors that it may skip previous-gen platforms and only release on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, EA CEO Andrew Wilson has announced that the next Battlefield is coming to PS4 and Xbox One. During a call for the company’s full-year earnings (transcript by AlphaStreet), Wilson said that, “Battlefield will be available for both current-gen and next-gen as will our sports titles.” He also addressed comments that DICE made about the sequel coming to next-gen consoles and PC.

“The reference specifically from our prepared remarks was around the nature of gameplay – what we can do with the fidelity of the game, what we can do with the physics, artificial intelligence, and the immersive nature of the game. And in the case of Battlefield, what we can do with respect to the amount of players that we can have in the game, and the nature of destruction and those all-new Battlefield moments that are truly next-gen opportunities that we are able to do in the context of our next-gen franchises because of the increased processing power and memory and output of the new consoles,” said Wilson.

When it was stated that cross-gen titles haven’t always performed well, Wilson responded, “With respect to current generation versus next generation titles, or maybe we should say current generation versus past generation platform titles, this has been done exceptionally well for decades.

“I had the great fortune of growing up in this company and building games on multiple generations, and I think when you think about our infrastructure around our Frostbite team, our digital services teams, and our game teams, you have unbelievable experience getting the very best out of the past generation consoles to ensure that even as we move to the next generation, we’re getting more and more out of the old generation platforms, and so those games are going to look great.

“When you think about new platform generations, again, with the advances that we make in Frostbite, with the advances that we make in our digital ecosystem, and with the advances that we’re making at a feature design level with the new unlocks that come from power, the games on next generation consoles are going to be extraordinary.”

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen echoed this sentiment, noting that while the next Battlefield will look “great” on both previous and current gen platforms, it will look “even more spectacular” on the latter. “The game has everything fans love about Battlefield. We’re excited to reveal the game to fans next month and share a lot more over the summer.”

As for whether the Battlefield franchise would be annualized or a battle royale mode would be included, Wilson said, “Nothing to announce at the moment on either an annualized release of Battlefield and/or the nature of the modes in the upcoming game. We’re going to talk about a lot around that in the months to come, starting next month with our reveal trailer, which I had the chance of seeing a work-in-progress last week and it is incredible what the team has been able to do in the context of next generation consoles, you know epic scale battles, unbelievable player count, destruction is really incredible, and there’s some very innovative and creative modes for the future of the franchise.”

The next Battlefield is currently slated to be revealed in June and promises “game changing destruction” along with an epic scale and “all-out warfare.” With EA Play Live taking place in July, it’s even more possible that more gameplay footage and details be revealed. Though the game is slated to release this Holiday season, EA said that it would land in the third fiscal quarter ending December 31st 2021. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

While rumors claimed the next Battlefield would have its reveal trailer in May, the game’s official Twitter teased a reveal in June. Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has confirmed that the reveal will indeed be happening in June. According to The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley on Twitter, it will be a “true next-generation game.”

DICE has stated as much already but the next Battlefield will have an “epic scale” and “all-out warfare.” The level of destruction is also being hyped up as “game changing” and there will be large battles that have “more players and mayhem than ever before.” If nothing else, this development team is the biggest yet for a Battlefield title so its scale is certainly impressive.

The next Battlefield is set to release this Holiday season and will be coming to next-gen consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PS5) and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. EA also recently announced EA Play Live for July so even more information and gameplay should be expected.

DICE's sequel could be unveiled during E3 week.

With E3 2021 taking place in June, the next big sequel in the Battlefield franchise is due for a reveal. While DICE has confirmed that it will unveil the game soon, the official Battlefield Twitter has offered some clues as to when said reveal will take place. It recently tweeted, “Words that rhyme with Soon: June. Boom.”

As ridiculous as it may sound, the presence of “Soon” and “June” can’t mean anything else. The next Battlefield has already been hyped as having the biggest development team in the series history while offering “game-changing” destruction and “massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before.” Perhaps a teaser trailer could drop soon, hyping up the main reveal in June when EA Play presumably takes place.

Screenshots from the apparent reveal trailer have already leaked online, with an island map and some skyscrapers seen along what an apparent storm brewing. Though DICE hasn’t outright confirmed the setting, these images seem to showcase the near future. Battlefield 6 (or whatever it ends up being called) is slated to release this Holiday season for “next-gen consoles”, meaning Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and PC. Whether it arrives on previous-gen platforms is yet to be confirmed.

Mobile game is a "standalone title" that is "completely different" from DICE's game.

DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson has provided an update on the Battlefield franchise, announcing that the next big title would be revealed soon. The developer has “A LOT” to show players in the coming months and reaffirmed a Holiday 2021 launch. Gabrielson noted that this was the biggest Battlefield development team yet and that the title would have “All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments. Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before.”

It’s currently being playtested daily with balancing and polish still being applied. Only next-gen consoles, meaning Xbox Series X/S and PS5, were mentioned along with PC so it’s possible that the next Battlefield is skipping Xbox One and PS4. But that’s not all – a new Battlefield mobile title is also in the works at Industrial Toys.

Touted as a “standalone game” that’s “completely different” from DICE’s title, it will be coming to smartphones and tablets in 2022. Testing will commence before launch with more details to come in the meantime. It’s safe to say that both titles will be revealed in June at the next EA Play Live so stay tuned.

Could this be the long-awaited Battlefield: Bad Company 3?

DICE LA is working on a new Battlefield game, it seems. This is according to senior design director Justin Wiebe on Twitter who asked everyone to guess what Electronic Arts-owned franchise he was “thrilled to be working on now.” After numerous guesses, Wiebe confirmed that it was indeed Battlefield.

He then noted that, “It’s wondrous I get to work on a game I fell in love with almost 20 years ago! The sandbox play of [Battlefield] 1942 was just amazing for its time. I look forward to hearing from all of you what you loved and hope for in a future Battlefield game.”

The studio, formerly known as Danger Close Games, is no stranger to first person shooters having worked on Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Warfighter in the past. A rumor in 2017 noted that DICE LA was working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3 while the Sweden office was busy with 2018’s Battlefield (which turned out to be Battlefield 5). In January 2020, Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella took over leadership at the studio and teased an unannounced title.

EA has already confirmed that the next Battlefield will be revealed this Spring and release in Holiday 2021. Thus far, we know that it will have “massive, immersive battles” with “more players than ever before” and “mark a return to all-out military warfare.” It will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC but PS4 and Xbox One versions also seem to be in the works as per rumors.

A new head comes for the LA branch of DICE.

It seems things are due for a potentially big shake up behind the scenes at one of EA’s biggest studios. For years, DICE has been the main team driving the hugely popular Battlefield series, as well as the newly launched Star Wars Battlefront series that’s seen its own success. While it’s doubtful that will change anytime soon, one big thing will in leadership positions.

As reported by the LA Times, Vince Zampella, Founder of Respawn Entertainment, will take over leadership of the LA branch of DICE. He apparently has some bold plans that include a possible name change. Whatever this new venture ends up being, it will be totally different from Respawn and the main DICE studio in Stockholm. Zampella also references a major, as of yet unannounced, title from the studio.

“We will probably rebrand,” Zampella says. “We want to give it a new image. We want people to say, ‘This is a destination you can go and make new content.’ I think they’ve kind of gotten the branding that they are the support studio for DICE Stockholm. I think rebranding is important for showing people, ‘Hey! Come work here. We’re going to do some amazing things.’”

What that will ultimately mean to consumers, if anything, remains to be seen. Ever since founding Respawn in 2015, that studio has seen some incredible success over the last few years, even if they haven’t been without a few stumbles. We’ll have to see if Zampella can do the same for DICE LA.
