Region locks will continue on Xbox One

According to Digitaltrends a Microsoft representative has told them that the Xbox One will be region locked just like the last platform Xbox 360. Here is the statement regarding the region locks:

“Similar to the movie and music industry, games must meet country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale.”

“We will continue to work with our partners to follow these guidelines with Xbox One.”

It is not a surprise to see the company following the same direction when it comes to region locks just like the Xbox 360. However, Sony on the other hand, doesn’t feature region locks on the PlayStation 3.

It’s still unknown if it will be the same for Sony’s next-generation platform PlayStation 4. We’re going to assume that PlayStation 4 will not be region locked. However, this is just an assumption because of previous experiences and not an official confirmation.

Let us know if you’re surprised that the Xbox One features region locks in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt for more updates on next-generation platforms as we get closer to E3 2013.
