God of War (2018)

Much of the God of War journey involves, well, a literal journey to honor Kratos’ wife Faye (with a dash of smacking down Baldr). But even after making the trek back home and seeing the “dream” with Thor, there’s still plenty to wrap up. Outside of collectibles, you could kill of the Valkyries including Sigrun, the toughest boss in the entire game; partake in the Impossible Trials of Muspelheim and master Niflheim’s poisonous arena; free all of the dragons; and reassemble the Gauntlet of Ages to wield Infinity Stone-esque power. New Game Plus adds even more content with new armor, talismans, enchantments and stronger versions of current armor.

Nippon Ichi Software’s Disgaea 5 Complete finally released on Steam following a sudden delay many months ago. However, many customers aren’t very happy about it. That’s because Disgaea 5 Complete on PC lacks all of the online features present in the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions. So if you wanted to use the Map Edit Shop to create custom maps, it’s simply not there.

The major issue for many who bought the game is that none of this was clarified before release. In a statement explaining the lack of these features, publisher NIS America said, “Due to irreconcilable platform differences, it was decided in the beginning of development for Disgaea 5 Complete that the Network functions from the original game could not be implemented into the Steam version.

“We deeply apologize that these differences were not communicated in advance, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. We would like to remind all users that Steam purchases come with a option to fully refund the purchase if total playtime has not exceeded 2 hours.”

Sadly, it doesn’t seem like NIS America will be disclosing any specific details on the “irreconcilable platform differences”. Disgaea 5 is still filled with tons of content for the Disgaea faithful, and even contains all the DLC released thus far (check out GamingBolt’s official review of the original PS4 release of Disgaea 5 here). However, this isn’t a good look for NIS America, which also delayed Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana for PC numerous times before it released with severe problems.

Disgaea 5 Complete was announced to be coming to PC, but then saw a delay with no specific new release date shared. The good news is, we now have one, and it’s not that far off. NIS America announced today that the PC port of Disgaea 5 Complete will be coming to PC later this month, on October 22 to be specific.

It won’t be full priced either, available at $40, though you can pre-order it right now for $30 (it will be available at that price until October 29, in fact). A demo of the game will also be made available to users with an Alienware Arena account—you can create one, then claim a key on the official site for yourself. As is the case with Disgaea demos, the progress will end up carrying over into the final game.

If you don’t want to wait till October 22, the good news is Disgaea 5 is available right now on PS4, while Disgaea 5 Complete is available on Nintendo Switch.

While NIS America promised the PC version of Disgaea 5 Complete for this year, the release was delayed at the last moment thanks to some unforeseen reasons, and now PC fans of the popular strategy RPG franchises are waiting. That wait will probably continue for a while, because in response to a fan on Twitter, NIS America confirmed that the launch of the PC version of the game has been delayed to Fall of this year.

It will probably be late Fall, too, because NIS America also confirmed that they are planning a beta for the game for October- which means late October is honestly the earliest you can expect the launch, and probably later than that, in all honesty.

It’s a sign of NIS America’s ongoing mismanagement of this project, as well as multiple other projects, over the last year- I actually love the folks, and enjoy their output, original and localized, but they need to get their act together. They’ve been dropping the ball a lot lately.

Disgaea 5 Complete is, however, available now on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

NIS America triggered several alarm bells when it revoked the PC demo for Disgaea 5: Complete. According to an update by the publisher on Steam, however, the full release has been delayed from May 7th to Summer 2018.

This was due to a “new issue” that was discovered during beta testing that would require more time to fix. As such, until the issue is fixed, the release date has been pushed back. NISA revealed that it was fixing other bugs and issues that were discovered. This particular issue seemed to be a lot more serious.

“Unfortunately, until this issue can be resolved, the release date will be postponed, and we are now targeting a release for Summer 2018. We offer our sincerest apologies to all who have been looking forward to this release of the game,” said the publisher.

Disgaea 5 is available for other platforms like the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch so it’s not like there aren’t options. Given NISA’s controversies when it comes to ports – the PC port of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana suffered numerous delays and still released with a number issues – the delay of Disgaea 5: Complete definitely doesn’t help. Looks like NIS’ Switch gamble has paid off in spades. Disgaea 5 Complete, which launched almost a year ago, and brought the PS4 game over to Nintendo’s hybrid handheld, has gone on to sell over 200,000 copies worldwide, turning into an unqualified success for the company, and prompting it to emphasize Switch development going forward.

Sohei Niikawa, CEO of NIS, himself confirmed this, stating that the bulk of the sales actually came from the global release- in turn suggesting that the Switch may be a great platform for worldwide sales of Japanese games. He also said that going forward, Switch will be prioritized as a lead platform for the company in addition to the PS4. Take this to mean that NIS games will be coming to the Switch as well as PS4 from now on.

Now to see whether NIS America is on board with this program yet- they are hosting an event next month, maybe they’ll have some Switch games to announce?

Disgaea 5 Complete, the former SRPG exclusive for the PS4, will be launching on the Nintendo Switch on May 23, publisher NIS America has confirmed. Disgaea 5 Complete includes the base game that was released for the PS4 in 2015, as well as all the additional content that was released for it since.

The package will include support for English and Japanese voices, as well as support for French and English subtitles in game. It doesn’t actually add much new to the game, but is a consolidated entry point into the game for any newcomers- if you are curious about the title, make sure to check out our review for it from its original PS4 release.
