Of the many big titles that Square Enix has released in recent years, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT stood out like a sore thumb. Despite being the latest in a critically acclaimed series, it received mixed reactions overall. The development team has supported it with updates and new characters along with a free to play version but that will cease soon.

In a recent livestream (translated by RPG Site), producer Ichiro Hazama said that support will end for all platforms. One last update will be released for the arcade version on February 20th while PC and PS4 will receive it on March 5th. Online support for the title will still continue but that will also eventually end at some point.

It also seems the future of the Dissidia Final Fantasy franchise is in doubt. Director Takeo Kujiraoka stated that, “We don’t want to make false anticipations, so we want to make it clear that right now there are no plans for a [Dissidia Final Fantasy] 2 at all.” The final update will add Ardyn from Final Fantasy 15 and offer a few balance changes as well.

Though not completely unexpected, it’s still a shame to see support winding down for the title. If interest in a sequel is strong enough, perhaps we’ll see one far down the line. Until then, stay tuned for more details.

When it comes to Final Fantasy talk, it’s hard not to get caught up in the hype of the remake of Final Fantasy 7. But there’s a lot of other Final Fantasy stuff going on constantly, whether it be remasters/remakes or the ongoing MMO, or the fighting game crossover Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The latter of which has some news as a new fighter is coming soon.

Square Enix announced that the game would see its latest addition later this month. The last fighter was Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7, obviously very timely. The series has a lot to draw from, so who knows where it’ll end up being from. Final Fantasy 8 also got a remaster of its own not too long ago so maybe that’s time for another slot.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. The livestream that will reveal the character will be September 24th, and you can see the link to the official YouTube below.

Yesterday, the fighting crossover, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, got an announcement for its next DLC character in the form of Final Fantasy 7‘s primary female protagonist, Tifa Lockhart. The boxing fanatic got demoed today ahead of the official release, which fans should find familiar.

In a livestream from publisher Square Enix (which you can view in its entirety below), we got the first look at how the character will play, along with her costumes and weapons. She’s a speed-based character and, just like her original incarnation, uses her fists in combat, along with a swift kick or two. Her weapon of choice does get some enhancements, however, with various gloves. You can check those out below, some of which will look very familiar to Final Fantasy 7 fans.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. Tifa will release June 27th to Japanese arcades, July 2nd on PC, and then July 3rd for PS4. Look for her in the much anticipated remake of Final Fantasy 7 as well.

People were excited to see Tifa finally in the remake of Final Fantasy 7 when she was unveiled in the E3 gameplay demo of the game, which you can check out here. But it’s not the only game Tifa is bringing her fists to, as it was announced that she’s joining the Final Fantasy fighting crossover, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. 

You can see the announcement trailer below. She is a speed type character who joins 7’s other representatives in the game, Cloud and Sephiroth. Like the original game and the upcoming remake, she’s all about her fists and feet, boxing up a storm with furious bare fist strikes.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. Tifa will be added to the arcade version of the game on June 27th (the arcade version is only available in Japan). For everyone else, you’ll get a chance to buy her for PC on July 2nd, and PS4 the following day on the 3rd.

When it comes to Final Fantasy news, everyone is focused on either the remake of Final Fantasy 7 or the remaster of Final Fantasy 8. There is another ongoing Final Fantasy, though, in the crossover fighter Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The game’s roster is a celebration of the long-running RPG series, and it’s about to get even bigger.

The game encompasses characters from all the mainline FF titles, as well as some of the spinoffs. Almost all the major protagonists and antagonists are present, but there’s still a lot to draw from- and the director says he wants to add someone new every three months. Square Enix has announced that they will host a live broadcast on June 25th to reveal the newest member. Who could it be? We’ll just have to tune in to see.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC. The reveal will take place June 25th at 20:00 JST, and you can see it at the game’s official YouTube or Niconico when those links go live.

Square Enix’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT may not have blown expectations out of the water when it first released (read our official review to know why), but the development team has been adding new content and updates to the fighter over the past year nonetheless. The crossover fighting game also has a free to play version for both PS4 and Steam.

What does the future hold though? Final Fantasy 14’s Zenos Yae Galvus was already released earlier this month, but director Takeo Kujiraoka says even more new characters are on the way. Speaking to DualShockers, he stated, “We will continue to adjust the game balance once a month as we have been doing—as well as rebalancing characters to refresh the initial roster.

“We also plan to add a new character once every three months, as well as aesthetic skins for around two characters during the other months. We’d also like to bring back characters in the PSP version, but want to add characters that were never in a Dissidia game as well. We are also working on new elaborate skins.”

So right away, that means we can expect at least two more characters for the game before the year is out. How the base game’s characters could be refreshed to keep them competitive remains to be seen, but at least the development team is keeping it in mind. Kujiraoka also talked about the possibility of a one-on-one mode, which doesn’t seem like it’ll be happening due to the current game’s unique balance for 3v3. But one can certainly dream for it in the sequel.

Square Enix’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, the latest instalment in the crossover fighting game series, can now be played for free. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition is live on PS4 and PC via Steam, allowing players in the West to try it out without paying anything. The Free Edition features four characters on a weekly rotation, allowing players to try them out in multiplayer matches online. Matches allow for both Free Edition and full game owners to battle it out together. If there’s a particular character you like, then they can be purchased separately.

Of course, if you like the entire premise of the game, then there’s the Digital Deluxe Edition on PS4 and Steam to purchase. Along with all 34 characters (which includes DLC fighters like Rinoa Heartilly and Snow Villiers), players also get additional cosmetic outfits and weapons. Square Enix’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition, which you’ll remember as launching in November 2018 for Japan, is coming to the West. It will be available for PS4 and PC via Steam on March 12th, according to the publisher. As the name indicates, this is the same title as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, which launched in January 2018 for PS4.

The differences start with the roster selection. On a weekly basis, players will have a limited number of characters to choose from. You can thus try out different characters before deciding whether to purchase them individually. It also doesn’t hurt that Free Edition players can fight against owners of the full game.

If you missed it last year, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the latest title in the Final Fantasy crossover fighting series. Battles featuring two teams of three characters are the focus this time around and the mechanics are fairly complex. For Final Fantasy fans, the same characters that they know and love, like Cloud Strife, Squall Leonheart, Sephiroth, and Noctis are all here, along with famous Summons. Square Enix’s crossover fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy NT now has a free version that’s available in Japan and Asia (supported languages include Chinese and Korean). Exclusive to the PS4, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition is on the PlayStation Store in those regions. As the name indicates, it’s free, but you still need PlayStation Plus to access online multiplayer.

Though Story Mode isn’t available, players can partake in online and offline battles. There will be four characters available, and they change on a weekly basis. Characters can be purchased (a starter pack is available as well) and they can be used at any time. Keep in mind that the weekly free characters only include those from the base version – DLC characters are not included.

Competing against those who own the full version is possible. However, if you want to try out the free version for some time and then transition to the full game, then your save data will carry over. While a release in the West hasn’t been confirmed, Exophase does have English Trophies for the same. Expect an announcement in the future, but check out the trailer below in the meantime.

In a recent livestream, Square Enix announced that its crossover fighting game Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will see Final Fantasy 8’s lovable Rinoa Heartilly joining the cast. She’s the third DLC character, included with the Season Pass, and will arrive in August.

A new trailer showcases Rinoa’s move set and outfits. Along with using Angelo, her signature dog, Rinoa can also utilize Angel Wing, a Limit Break which grants her wings, to be able to fly around. In terms of alternate outfits, there are different colour schemes for her base outfit and a formal dress, best seen in the famous ballroom dance scene in Final Fantasy 8.

Overall, Rinoa has a very spell-focused playstyle that favours fighting at range. Used in combination with characters like Squall Leonheart, Rinoa’s love interest from Final Fantasy 8, it’s possible to strongly pressure enemy teams.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is currently available exclusively for PlayStation 4. Other DLC characters that have joined the cast since its release include Locke Cole from Final Fantasy 6 and Vayne Carudas Solidor from Final Fantasy 12.
