Microsoft’s popular Xbox One fighting game Killer Instinct will be receiving a physical edition later this year with Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition. It’s currently available to pre-order on Amazon and will be out later this year.

Featuring all 26 characters and 20 stages across three seasons, the package will also include the classic Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2, the original soundtrack and a skin pack featuring Gold Gargos. It doesn’t seem like the package will include any content that’s announced leading up to its release so if season 4 is suddenly announced, you probably won’t find it in the Definitive Edition.

Retailing for $40, Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition is only available for Xbox One. If you want to try picking up the same package digitally, then there’s the Killer Instinct: Supreme Edition which features all the characters, costumes, 2 XP boosters and 18,000 KI Gold, all for the price of $50.

What are your thoughts on Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition? Let us know in the comments.

Killer Instinct Season 3′s latest trailer shows off much more of the character Tusk while also managing to tease the new character known as Mira. The game is due to come out later this month and has been rolling out trailers in this fashion for a while now. Tusk was actually teased in a very quick video about a month ago. That video just showed us a glimpse and this new new one is quite a bit longer, and shows off the way the character takes on his enemies.

This new video opens with a cinematic pan over what appear to be some enemies Tusk has already taken down. The trailer then goes on to show the character in battle and it’s here where we eventually get to see Mira. At the 1:41 mark in the video, this new character strides into the frame, leaps at Tusk, lifts him into the air and then apparently prepares to take a bite out of him. This is where we see the character is most definitely a vampire, as her fangs are quite visible.

Now that we’ve got all of Killer Instinct Season 3‘s launch trailers, we have a very good idea about who and what is going to be in the game. Now we just have to try and be patient as the game is almost here. Killer Instinct Season 3 is coming to the Xbox One and Windows 10 on March 29, 2016. Check out the new trailer featuring Tusk and teasing Mira below.

Killer Instinct is now due to enter its third season next month; with this season come not just the yearly patches and balance updates, but also new characters, and indeed, a full overhaul of how the game looks.

One of the new characters who is being added to Killer Instinct Season 3 is the Arbiter from the Halo franchise. This news post is not about him, sadly. This news post is, rather, about TUSK, who was just teased for Killer Instinct in the new trailer for it that was released today. You can see this trailer below, and you can tell us what you think in the comments section- is TUSK a character you see yourself playing with over the coming months?

Killer Instinct is available on Xbox One; with Season 3, it will also be made available on PCs running Windows 10, exclusively over the Windows Store. On both platforms, Season 3 launches next month.

Everything you need to know about Killer Instinct Season 3.

Killer Instinct Season 3 is actually a sort of addition to what was an Xbox One launch game in Killer Instinct. It will be the third season of the game, developed by Iron Galaxy, Double Helix and Rare Ltd., with Iron Galaxy taking the lead development role. Killer Instinct Season 3 is due out on the Xbox One in March of 2016, though an official release day has not yet been announced.

Development

Iron Galaxy is developing this addition to the game and has announced a couple of new characters that will be joining the existing stable of fighters. At E3 2015, Microsoft announced that Killer Instinct and all three of its seasons would be coming to the PC in the future. At Gamescom 2015 the first brand new character addition to the game was announced. As has been the case with other characters in the series, there are some fighters that are from outside the Killer Instinct universe. The first character like this in Season 3 was announced as the character Rash from the old Battletoads game. The development team also announced that Rash would get a short testing period so that players could try the character out and give feedback on what they like and don’t like about his fighting style.

Shortly after the news of Rash joining Season 3, the soundtrack for Season 2 was released as an album on iTunes and then the composer for the music announced that he was leaving the series. The musical composers for Season 3 were confirmed by Iron Galaxy to be Atlas Plug and Celldweller.

On August 5, 2015 the official trailer for Rash was released. At the same time, Iron Galaxy announced another character that would be joining Season 3. Kim Wu, who is actually a classic character was both announced had her trailer officially released. On December 1, 2015 Shadow Jago’s official trailer was released, meaning he was another character that would be added to the upcoming addition to the game. On February 21, 2016, yet another “guest” character was announced for the game. Arbiter from the Halo series has been officially announced as being in the game when Season 3 launches in March of 2016.

Iron Galaxy announced that new characters weren’t going to be the only things coming in Killer Instinct‘s Season 3. The development team announced it was adding some new graphics technology. Part of this technology included reflection technology for each of the stages. The team also said that it was actually re-introducing screen space color adjustments. The developers also said they were going to have new and better shading technology that would make the fighters and the surrounding areas look more realistic. The company also announced that, along with the new tech and the new characters, there would be three new stages though they have not yet explained the specifics of these stages.

Story

The story that has been running throughout the series is actually a kind of inversion of what fighting game fans saw in Killer Instinct 2. There is a giant corporation called Ultratech which is now thought of by the general public as a humanitarian organization that is attempting to help mankind adapt and survive the future. The company is led by a cybernetic CEO known as ARIA and she has unleashed a number of horrors on the world as a way of trying to test and push the extent of the human ability to evolve. Now all kinds of demons, monsters, mutants and aliens have descended on the earth in order to do battle. It has been pointed out that while there are some aspects that were taken from the original run of the series, the game is much more story driven than the original two titles.

Gameplay

Killer Instinct Season 3 has the same gameplay aspects of the first two seasons, with a few tweaks to moves that are made by fighters in the game. New combos as well as souped up combos for the characters are going to be introduced in this particular season though there hasn’t been a ton of specifics as of February, 2016.

Characters

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-182388" src="https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/36.-Killer-Instinct.jpg" alt="36.
Some fighters from previous seasons of Killer Instinct will be playable in Season 3. There are a number of new characters that have been confirmed for launch when Season 3 launches in March:

Rash: This character from the game Battletoads is a “guest fighter” that comes equipped with his own special moves. Rash is now a giant humanoid toad but he was once a man named Dave Shar who got sucked into a computer game and transported to another planet. Rash has managed to make his way back to earth in order to join the battle.

Kim Wu: A Korean martial artist who fights with a pair of nunchaku. Before she was a battle hardened veteran, she was a fashion design student who was prophesied to be the one who would take down one of the biggest monsters to walk the earth.

Arbiter: An alien warrior who is Killer Instinct’s second guest character who is well known to fans of the Halo series. This warrior was once a high ranking commander of the Covenant forces but he failed a number of high profile missions and was given the title of “Arbiter.” Angered by his new lot in life, he eventually turned against his former comrades and has now found himself on Earth.

Tusk: Tusk is a barbarian warrior who relies heavily on a two-handed sword in order to take on his foes.

Gargos: A dark gargoyle-like monster who is one of the most feared villains in Killer Instinct 3. This is a character that made his first appearance at the end of Season 2.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game

Strider is an odd franchise. The original game was released in arcades in 1989, and (poorly) ported to a number of home consoles that same year, before it saw a proper release on the SEGA Genesis in 1990. A sequel, Strider II, was produced in Europe by U.S. Gold and Tiertex without Capcom’s involvement and released as Journey From Darkness: Strider Returns in North America, though it never appeared in Japan. Years later, Capcom would develop their own sequel, which released as Strider 2 in arcades and on the PlayStation in 2000.

After that, though, the series went dormant. The series’ iconic protagonist, Strider Hiryu, would go on to appear a number of other Capcom titles, most recently Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, where he made his first appearance as a 3D character and was voiced in English for the first time. As Super Smash Bros. taught us, crossover fighters are great tools for brand resurrection, and Capcom isn’t one to miss a beat when there’s money to be made.

"Thankfully, the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. References to Star Wars abound, and the game is as likely to skewer itself as it is some of the genre’s more over the top elements."

With that in mind, a new Strider game seemed all but inevitable. This time, development fell to Capcom’s Osaka studio and Double Helix Games. Capcom’s previous efforts to outsource its properties to Western developers have produced mixed results: Lost Planet 3 was an inoffensive, if forgettable, game and the less said about the disastrous Dark Void, the better. Strider fans need not be concerned, however. As they did with the latest incarnation of Killer Instinct, Double Helix steps up admirably, and the result is a great romp that doubles as a fantastic reimagining of the original Strider titles.

Yes, Strider is more of a reimagining than it is a reboot and many of the same story beats carry over from the 1989 title. That’s not to say that the game has much of a story, though. At the beginning of the game, Hiryu is dropped – via hang glider, no less – into Kazakh City and tasked with killing its leader, Grandmaster Meio. If you’re looking for narrative depth, you won’t find it here. This is a game filled with cheesy villains and bad Russian accents.

Thankfully, the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. References to Star Wars abound, and the game is as likely to skewer itself as it is some of the genre’s more over the top elements. At one point, one of the bosses tells Strider that he can’t possibly win because he has a gun, and Strider only has a knife. Later on, it introduces a boss as “The True Form” in large, bold letters. Strider is simply that kind of game, and it doesn’t care that you know it.

"These abilities are a great aid in combat, but they’ll help you get around in the game world, too. In a rather bold move, Double Helix opted to jettison the series linear, side-scrolling nature in favor of a Metroidvania approach."

Frankly, however, the game’s story doesn’t really matter; it’s just there to provide a reason for Strider to do the things he does. The real draw here is the action itself, and thanks to the game’s truncated opening, that starts the moment Strider hits the ground. The game is fast and fluid and you’ll be cutting through victims like a ninja wielding a plasma sword almost immediately. That’s not to say that Strider is an easy game – it’s not – but you’ve always got the tools you need for a given situation and the controls are extremely precise. If you die, it’s on you.

Still, things do start fairly simply. Hiryu begins the game with a basic attack, a heavy attack that can knock enemies into the air, and a jump. You’ll acquire a number of upgrades over the course of your journey ranging from kunai, which can be thrown at enemies, to special abilities known as Options, which can be activated at the cost of some of Hiryu’s energy for big damage, and in one case, a defensive boost.

These abilities are a great aid in combat, but they’ll help you get around in the game world, too. In a rather bold move, Double Helix opted to jettison the series linear, side-scrolling nature in favor of a Metroidvania approach. Naturally, this means that you’ll be doing some backtracking and certain areas will be closed off until you acquire the items necessary to gain access to them. Genre staples such as the double jump, dash attack, and a slide attack make an appearance, but with the added wrinkle that Strider is able to climb walls and cross ceilings naturally, which allows Double Helix to mix up the environments, and the manners in which you’ll traverse them, significantly.

"Strider’s combat is an absolute joy when you finally get everything figured out, and everything really comes to a head in the game’s mini-boss and boss fights. These are often the most extreme tests of your skill, and the game doesn’t pull punches with any of them. "

The real star of the show, however, is the Cypher, Hiryu’s plasma sword. Over the course of the game, you’ll gain access to different types of plasma, each of which allows you to unlock doors and activate switches within the environment and adds an additional effect to Strider’s attacks. The standard red plasma, for example, allows you to deflect (or reflect, if you time it properly) enemy fire, the orange plasma lights things on fire, and the blue plasma allows you to freeze your foes. Certain enemies can only be defeated by using the plasma that matches their color, which adds a quite a bit of depth to the combat, and you’ll often find yourself frantically switching between plasma types during combat as you try to find the best answer for a situation.

Strider’s combat is an absolute joy when you finally get everything figured out, and everything really comes to a head in the game’s mini-boss and boss fights. These are often the most extreme tests of your skill, and the game doesn’t pull punches with any of them. You might struggle against a mini-boss only to enter the next room and watch in horror as the game throws three of them at you as regular enemies, but the real treat are the actual bosses themselves.

There are quite a few of them and each is very well designed and a lot of fun, requiring you to master new patterns and mechanics. Unfortunately, the game forces you to fight many of the bosses several times. This is mitigated by the fact that each fight is legitimately different than the one that came before it, sometimes drastically so, and that the game will rarely ever ask you to fight a character more than twice. Still, it can be annoying to fight the same characters over and over again, no matter how good the fights are.

"The environments aren’t problem free, however. Some areas are overly frustrating due to a combination of platforming challenges and enemy placement, and I did get stuck in the environment twice, forcing me to reload a previous checkpoint both times."

Boss fights aside, Strider does its best to mix things up. Kazakh City is an incredibly varied place, and over the course of the game, you’ll travel the city’s rooftops, descend into the sewers, infiltrate a military base, and explore secret laboratory, among other areas. The game looks fantastic, and all of these areas are modeled in bright colors and feature unique challenges that must be overcome if you are to progress.

The environments aren’t problem free, however. Some areas are overly frustrating due to a combination of platforming challenges and enemy placement, and I did get stuck in the environment twice, forcing me to reload a previous checkpoint both times. In addition, Strider sometimes grows a little too fond of its industrial corridors for its own good, but by and large, the environments are a lot of fun to explore, and you never know what you’ll see next.

The enemies that inhabit these environments are just as varied and colorful, and the world feels cohesive and real in a way few games manage. The most impressive visual trick is Strider himself, from the way he moves to the way his scarf changes color depending on which plasma type you have equipped to your Cypher. The game does have some odd visual inconsistencies – for example, characters’ mouths don’t move when they speak – but overall the visuals are very impressive, and Double Helix often uses them to convey elements of the game’s design in clever ways.

"Ultimately, “a different take” is pretty good way to describe Strider, especially given the series’ odd history. Double Helix has managed to straddle the line between a remake and a full-fledged reboot, and create something that is unique, while still feeling like a Strider title, and playing to the series’ strengths."

Sound design is a little more hit and miss. Some sounds, such as voices and Strider’s Cypher, occasionally seem a bit muffled outside of cutscenes, while everything else is often fairly loud and distinct. It’s a minor complaint, and everything sounds pretty good when the sound mixing comes together properly, which is most of the time.

Like most Metroidvanias, Strider isn’t necessarily a long game. I finished it on normal in a little over six hours. That number is probably closer to eight hours when you include my deaths, but I only managed to complete fifty-three percent of the game. If you take the time to find all of the hidden upgrades and collectibles, I would imagine it takes much longer, and fans of speed runs should rest assured that the game can be completed in significantly less time, if you know how.

Once you’re done with the main adventure, you can tackle the game’s challenge modes: survival and beacon run. Survival mode is about combat, and the game grants you a preset load out of abilities before turning you loose on wave after wave on enemies to see how long you can survive. Beacon run, on the other hand, is all about speed, tasking you with passing through a number of beacons as quickly as you can while avoiding enemies and environmental traps. Each challenge is scored, and there are leaderboards to challenge for the skilled and dedicated. The main game will remain the core, and likely only, draw for most people, but the challenges provide a nice change of pace for those who want a different take on the game.

Ultimately, “a different take” is pretty good way to describe Strider, especially given the series’ odd history. Double Helix has managed to straddle the line between a remake and a full-fledged reboot, and create something that is unique, while still feeling like a Strider title, and playing to the series’ strengths. It’s the kind of game that will appeal to old fans of the franchise and create new ones, and something tells me that this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of Hiryu or Kazakh. Perhaps, then, the best word for Strider is “revival.” It was a tall order, but that’s what makes it successes so impressive. Mission accomplished, indeed.

Killer Instinct, the free-to-play Xbox One fighting game, developers have announced that in their latest update, they are going to implement a punishment system which condemns players who have a high enough rate of mid-battle disconnections. Players have been disconnecting mid-battle in Killer Instinct in order to to save themselves from a loss in the game’s ranking system.

The punishment will be as such: Players who disconnect in 15% of their first ten matches will be forced to go to what the developers are calling “jail”. In jail, “prisoners” will only be allowed to fight other gamers who have also been sent to jail. Additionally, any match that results in the player being sent to jail will count as an automatic loss for that player.

Repeat offenders will suffer additional consequences as well. Every time a player is sent to Killer Instinct jail, their sentence will increase by 24 hours. At this time the maximum sentence one can incur is five days.

Producer James Vance enlightens us on various aspects of the reboot.

In the beginning, there was Strider and all was good. Over the years though, Strider had disappeared while other icons like Ryu Hayabusa took center stage. Strider is making his return though and this time he’ll be in full 3D, wrecking shop with his trademark Cypher blade and red scarf. GamingBolt recently had a chance to speak Capcom Japan producer James Vance about various aspects of the game, including implementation of the older games’ feel, taking advantage of the PS4 and Xbox One, and much more.

Rashid Sayed: Was there are a particular reason you guys retained the feel and look of the older games? You could have built a third person Strider instead.

James Vance: One key motivation behind the project was to create a game that first and foremost delivered the core Strider experience gamers hold in their hearts. An integral component to the core experience is, of course, 2D side-scrolling gameplay. A 2D side-scrolling design is also the natural platform for the Strider hallmarks of high speed, intense action and instantly responsive controller input. It is our hope that delivering these core series hallmarks will ensure a great gameplay experience for long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Rashid Sayed: How are you making sure that Strider Hiryu retains his personality from the previous games?

James Vance: Visually, the Capcom Japan art director, who has previous franchise experience designing the enemy characters for Strider 2, led the design of Strider Hiryu as well as the majority of the enemy characters in this latest game. The art director ensured character design authenticity through first-hand knowledge of everything from the style of Hiryu’s hair, to the intricate mechanical workings of his climb sickle and plasma scarf.

Hiryu’s character has been updated to match the game’s visual themes and HD fidelity, but remains instantly recognizable thanks to great care taken to maintain the color palette and silhouette used in the most recent Marvel vs. Capcom games.

From a gameplay perspective, the Capcom Japan team’s past experience on Strider and other side-scrolling action-adventure games, such as Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts, proved invaluable. The team at Double Helix, are also huge fans of Strider 1&2 and Marvel vs. Capcom, and their passion and expertise proved instrumental in ensuring that Hiryu moved, animated, responded and felt like the Hiryu gamers know and love.

"The next-gen versions also include additional graphical upgrades, such as vastly increased character model fidelity, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), improved shadow filtering and lighting, as well as larger and more expressive particle effects thanks to GPU acceleration."

Rashid Sayed: What can you tell us about the differences between the current and next gen versions?

James Vance: The PS4 and Xbox One provide an increase in resolution and frame-rate over the PS3 and Xbox 360 of 720P to 1080P and 30FPS to 60FPS respectively. The next-gen versions also include additional graphical upgrades, such as vastly increased character model fidelity, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), improved shadow filtering and lighting, as well as larger and more expressive particle effects thanks to GPU acceleration.

Rashid Sayed: Do you have any plans to bring the extra content i.e. Strider 1 and 2 to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?

James Vance: At this time, there are no plans to bring additional (exclusive) content to any North American version of this new Strider game.

Rashid Sayed: The PlayStation 4 version of Strider is confirmed to run at 1080p resolution and 60 fps. Can you please confirm the resolution and fps of the Xbox One version?

James Vance: Both the PS4 and Xbox One versions run a native 1080P resolution and 60FPS.

Rashid Sayed: How many hours of gameplay are we roughly looking at in Strider?

James Vance: The average player will likely defeat the last boss at around the 6 to 8 hour mark. However, unlocking all of the game’s secrets, exploring the entire map and finding every item and power-up will certainly take much longer. Additional unlockable gameplay modes and online leaderboards provide extra challenges and incentive to continue to play or re-play the game.

"The goal has been to deliver not only on the gameplay experience of Strider 1 and 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom, but take that experience a step further by considering the sometimes gilded memory or ideal image gamers have of previous Strider games and making it a reality."

Rashid Sayed: What can you tell us about the story in the game? Furthermore how do you plan to use it to get players more involved with the gameplay?

James Vance: The story is a re-imagining of Strider Hiryu’s epic mission to eliminate his arch nemesis and world dictator Grand Master Meio. The scale and scope of the game provide a great opportunity to dive deeper into the truly unique and mesmerizing Strider universe. Character and enemy interactions draw the player into the world, propel the action forward and help guide them through the vastly expansive game world. A host of truly insane boss characters are, in their personalities, rivaled only by the epic scale of their encounters, and are sure to provide an entertaining and exciting challenge players won’t soon forget.

Rashid Sayed: You have already revealed a couple of bosses in the game. Can you tell us who else is returning? Furthermore what can players expect from some of the new bosses in the game?

James Vance: Several series favorites such as the infamous cyborg bounty hunter Solo, and the giant robotic gorilla Mechapon return powered-up and more deadly than ever. The Strider series is known for fantastic, larger than life bosses and over-the-top battles, and the newest Strider definitely aims to please. For now, though, the remaining boss characters will have to remain a surprise for players until they get their hands on the game.

Rashid Sayed: One feature that immediately caught my eye is Hiryu’s movements are fast, faster than the previous games. As soon as the slide ends, Hiryu keeps on running. I think this is a small but a nice touch. What other improvements is in store for the players?

James Vance: A great deal of effort has been invested to ensure Hiryu’s movement and actions look, feel and play just right. The goal has been to deliver not only on the gameplay experience of Strider 1 and 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom, but take that experience a step further by considering the sometimes gilded memory or ideal image gamers have of previous Strider games and making it a reality.

For example, while Hiryu’s animations in the now 25 year old original arcade Strider were great for the time, the animation is often remembered as more fluid than it actually was. Ensuring that the animation, speed, action and input timing of the latest Strider are on par with the gamer’s memory or ideal, ensures that the experience feels authentic and the gameplay is great.

"The majority of the items and power-ups that can be acquired via exploration or defeating boss characters are an extension of the core Strider gameplay mechanics of close-quarter Cypher (sword) combat, and highly maneuverable acrobatic action."

Rashid Sayed: Hiryu seems to be packed with special moves and abilities this time around. Is there a way players can extend or improve upon? Do you guys plan to provide unlockable skills set?

James Vance: The majority of the items and power-ups that can be acquired via exploration or defeating boss characters are an extension of the core Strider gameplay mechanics of close-quarter Cypher (sword) combat, and highly maneuverable acrobatic action. The Cypher can be switched on the fly between several different types of plasma, such as Explosive, Reflect and Ultra-cold, amongst others.

Each of these can be used to interact with the environment as well as a strategically offensive weapon. A player may freeze a large enemy in place, buying them a short window to take out smaller enemies by reflecting their gunfire back at them, and finally finish of the remaining enemies with heavy hitting explosive attacks. Throughout the course of the game, players will amass a vast arsenal of items and abilities, that when used in combination, provide a gameplay experience that is more expansive and dynamic than previous outings.

Rashid Sayed: Is the multi-directional aerial slash from Strider 2 returning in the game? If not, why?

James Vance: This particular move is not part of the latest Strider move set. Strider 2 was designed around a small collection of moves including the multi-directional aerial slash, while the newest Strider is designed to incorporate a much wider array of items and abilities. Many moves were considered for the latest Strider game, and the final move list is comprised of both classic and new actions based upon those which best matched the enemy and level design as well as the character progression tree.

Rashid Sayed: What can you tell us about the open world approach to stage design in the game and how it present different gameplay mechanics to the player?

James Vance: A non-linear world design is challenging to create because of the scope and number of factors to calculate and consider. The additional challenge is, however, balanced out by the benefit of a lengthy, engaging, robust and rich gameplay experience. The expansive world map serves as a stage for a wide variety of unique combat and traversal challenges, which put the player’s skills to the test.

Conversely, the world map also houses a variety of items, power-ups and secrets that can be acquired through exploration, and open new and powerful combat and traversal possibilities. This unique gameplay loop of challenge, exploration, reward and empowerment engages the player and motivates them to further explore and enjoy the game world.

"The PS4 touchpad button is a convenient means for bringing up the map, given the easy to reach position on the controller."

Rashid Sayed: From a developer perspective what are your thoughts on working on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? Do you find any differences with them in regards to how their architecture is based with one having unified memory and the other using embedded memory?

James Vance: We are very excited to deliver Strider to PS4 and Xbox One consumers at the very beginnings of this next-generation of gaming. Both machines are extremely powerful, and have allowed us to realize our major next-generation goal of delivering a 1080P, 60FPS enhanced gameplay experience. As the generation proceeds, it will be very interesting and exciting to see how platform specific games utilize their respective architectures in unique ways.

Rashid Sayed: The game does look pretty. Can you please talk a bit about asset creation along with optimization for 1080p resolution on next gen consoles?

James Vance: The PS4 and Xbox One were on the development radar some time before they were announced to the public, and because the PC version of Strider is DirectX 11 compliant it was an easy decision to bring the game to next-gen consoles once the development kits became available. The majority of the next-generation optimization has focused on ensuring the game looks good at 1080P with improved models, lighting and shadows, as well as maintaining a silky 60FPS frame rate.

Rashid Sayed: Last question: Are there any plans to use the Xbox One’s Kinect and PS4’s Touchpad to further improve gameplay mechanics?

James Vance: Several ideas were explored, but the PS4 and Xbox One standard button inputs proved to be the optimum player experience. The PS4 touchpad button is a convenient means for bringing up the map, given the easy to reach position on the controller.

Not to mention an increased resolution and frame rate.

Capcom and Double Helix are working hard to bring us Strider, a reboot of the classic 2D action platformer, to current and next gen consoles. Given the divide in power, GamingBolt asked Capcom Japan producer James Vance about the differences in current and next gen versions of Strider.

“The PS4 and Xbox One provide an increase in resolution and frame-rate over the PS3 and Xbox 360 of 720p to 1080p and 30 FPS to 60 FPS respectively.”

There will be significant bump in the visual effects as well to go with the improved frame rate and resolution. “The next-gen versions also include additional graphical upgrades, such as vastly increased character model fidelity, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), improved shadow filtering and lighting, as well as larger and more expressive particle effects thanks to GPU acceleration.”

Strider is currently set to release this year for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Producer James Vance provides new details on the upcoming action platformer.

The resolution wars may have peaked with the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in November but they’re still as relevant as ever for upcoming titles in order to assuage the developing power of both consoles. GamingBolt recently had a chance to speak Capcom Japan producer James Vance, who is working on the upcoming reboot for Strider, and asked about the action platformer’s resolution for next-gen consoles.

While the PS4 version is confirmed to run at 1080p resolution and 60 FPS, Vance confirmed that this is the case for the Xbox One version as well. “Both the PS4 and Xbox One versions run a native 1080p resolution and 60 FPS.”

As for whether there were plans to bring back Strider 1 and 2 to the PS4 and XBox One in some form, Vance stated that, “At this time, there are no plans to bring additional (exclusive) content to any North American version of this new Strider game.”

Strider will be releasing later this year for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.
