Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors-inspired hack-n-slash duo of spinoffs, Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2, might be headed to the Switch in the west. The collection released for the system in Japan in 2017 but never came west, but as spotted over at ResetEra, a listing for the collection has gone up on Greek website The Console Club.

The price of the collection – €60 – would also suggest that this isn’t a listing for an imported copy, since that would be much costlier. This isn’t the first time reports about Dragon Quest 1 and 2 on the Switch coming to the west, nor is this coming from an official channel, so take it with a grain of salt right now. That said, this is the same retailer that also leaked Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue coming to the Switch, which ended up being true, so this might be accurate as well.

Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated in case there’s any developments in the story.

Why, with a barrage of spin-off titles to compliment the series. Some of those spin-offs have dabbled in monster capturing (Dragon Quest Monsters) while others draw influence from crafting titles like Minecraft (last year’s finely made Dragon Quest Builders). Dragon Quest Heroes, on the other hand, revels in the ancient art of hacking and slashing your way through literally hordes of enemies and monsters, not unlike the Dynasty Warriors series (or as the genre is commonly known as, “Musou”).

In fact, Dragon Quest Heroes II from Japanese developer Omega Force more or less follows the same foundation as its first entry and all the other Musou titles that came before. Much like the first game, you’re once again thrust into a magical adventure. The Seven Kingdoms of the world which have been in peace for thousands of years are on the brink of war.

It’s up to two cousins – Razel and Teresia – to take up arms, and seek out the truth behind why some of these nations have become hostile. There’s also a way that may help the cousins attain peace but obviously dark forces are afoot. Though generic and pretty straightforward, the characters are generally likable. However, the voice acting comes off as a bit weird at times, especially in cutscenes where the lip-synching can be off.

Of course, the main appeal of Dragon Quest Heroes (somewhat like Hyrule Warriors, also from Omega Force) is that various characters from the series drop in to help. Dragon Quest Heroes II features six new combatants (like the arrogant Cesar and axe-wielding Desmedona) that will join you on your journey. Five characters make a return from the previous outing including Jessica and Healix and several characters from previous Dragon Quest games like Angelo from Dragon Quest VIII, Torneko from Dragon Quest IV and Carver from Dragon Quest VI.

This makes for a grand total of 15 playable characters to hack, slash and brawl with. It should be noted that unless you’re a big fan of the established Dragon Quest characters, some of the cast can come off as fairly one-note. There are the time-worn tropes like rivalries, the magnanimous king, the wolf boy who’s hungry at all the time, etc. Basically nothing you haven’t seen before but where the story can somewhat fall short, the combat more than picks up the slack.

Depending on which vocation you choose, there will be different classes with their own types of weapons and skills to utilize. For instance, Teresia can start off as a Warrior with powerful melee based spells and attacks. Opting for a Mage changes her stats up while offering new attacks and spells to play around with. Then there are proficiencies, gained from using certain types of weapons, levelling them up and gaining different bonuses for the same. This further leads to special abilities associated with a class of weapon separate from your main class skills. It’s a welcome degree of complexity that helps to separate it from other Musou games while also retaining the game’s core RPG mechanics. Going into the open world helps break up the monotony that’s typical of a Dynasty Warriors game.

Speaking of which, another great addition in the sequel is a more structured quest system and an open world-like area with towns to visit. No longer are you required to play from one long story battle to the next. When you’re not looking to engage in the main quest, you and your party are free to roam the fields and grind at your own convenience while partaking up to 8 side quests at a given time. Space Time Labyrinth dungeons exist to casually murder hordes of foes and it allows for some mindless battling without much thinking.

Though the main story missions can range from battling and recruiting different heroes to protecting your king on a wide open battlefield while trying to gain ground on the enemy, the side quests have a decent amount of variety. This includes using a specific spell a number of times to kill monsters, gathering items and whatnot. Again, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before but combined with the satisfying combat loop, customization and appealing visuals, it makes for some great action RPG fun.

One of the major differences between Dragon Quest Heroes II and other Musou games is the ability to have four members in your party at all times, and you’re free to switch between them with the press of a button. Each character comes with a variety of moves, specials and play styles that are worth experimenting with. When you’re surrounded with a wave of tough, damage-soaking baddies, you’ll want to make full use of your team.

This is especially when you consider the Tension meter which builds up and lets you unleash some flashy super moves and tag team manoeuvres. Then there’s the ability to summon monsters using Monster Coins with different coins occupying a number of slots. In a neat twist, you can actually become the monster and wreak havoc on your foes. There’s something satisfying about defeating a Hackasaurus and then taking on its form to burn through waves of enemies.

For anyone who’s played any of the other Dragon Quest games, they will instantly recognize the art style and medieval-like fantasy themes that have adorned the series for so long. From sound effects and music to character and monsters, Dragon Quest’s distinct look and feel is worn proudly on its chest throughout and only helps make the nostalgic trip all the much sweeter. The overall visuals are especially spectacular with all the special attacks, effects, summons and whatnot with the frame rate sticking to 60 FPS for the most part. It can tank if there’s too much going on though.

One of the biggest issues is with the difficulty spike in combat. It’s not always obvious what level you have to be at all times (except in dungeons which explicitly state the level you need to be) and some enemies tend to soak up a ton of damage. This causes some battles to seemingly go on for longer than they should. Some elements for those unfamiliar with either the Dragon Quest or Musou games may be hard to get into. You don’t have to be a Dragon Quest fan to appreciate what’s going on but long-time players of the series will definitely get more out of the experience.

As a whole, Dragon Quest Heroes II is exactly what it sets out to be. It’s a Musou title with tons of customization and crowd brawling faithfully set against the Dragon Quest universe. The overall mechanics have been incredibly expanded from the previous outing and Omega Force deserves major kudos for building upon it so well. If you’re looking for a light hack and slash experience with some solid RPG mechanics, then Dragon Quest Heroes II is a fine display of medieval fantasy combat.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2, a spin-off of the classic RPG series that focuses more on hack and slash action, is finally available in North America. Check out the launch trailer below.

Developed by Omega Force of Dynasty Warriors fame, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 features a lot of crowd-brawling. However, it also mixes in elements like exploring the world, visiting towns, random battles and character customization to keep it in line with Dragon Quest. There are several characters to choose from with their own abilities and combos along with different weapons to equip them with.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 also supports online multiplayer for up to four players if you’re interested in brawling with friends. It’s out now on PS4 in North America and PC in North America and Europe right now. It will head to the PS4 in Europe on April 28th.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 will launch on PS4 soon, but if you aren’t sold on it yet, and would rather first see whether the action game spin off will be worth your while, the good news is that Square Enix is making it easy for you to do that- a demo for the game is now available to download on the PSN Store.

The demo is around 4.8GB, and lets you play as four of the 15 playable heroes from the full game’s story mode, including series newcomers Lazarel and Teresa. As of right now, it is unclear whether or not data from the demo will transfer over into the final game- although it would be great if it did, really.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 will launch on PlayStation 4 and PC on April 28 in North America and Europe. A version of the game is also available on Nintendo Switch in Japan, but so far, that one has not been confirmed for a localization or western release.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2, the sequel to the action game spin off for the mainline series, will be launching in the west next month- ahead of that, Square Enix has shared another trailer for the game, this one focusing on Terry and Carver.

Long time fans of the series will recognize these characters as being from Dragon Quest 6; both of them have unique abilities, with Terry relying on dexterous sword play, and Carver on his sheer brute strength to get them through battles. On the whole, they should be fun characters to play as- even though they are from one of the lesser Dragon Quest games.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is due out on April 25 on PlayStation 4 and PC; a Nintendo Switch version of the game also exists, and is out in Japan, but thus far has not been announced for western release. Make sure to check out the new trailer below.

Square Enix’s action game spin off for its long running Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, is due to launch in the west soon- so Square is giving us brand new trailers and media to pore over as we await the launch of the game.

In this new trailer, which you can see below, we are treated to the game’s gorgeously adorable artstyle. The trailer also showcases two of the playable characters in the game, Desdemona and Cesar. Plus you also get to hear some of the great, rousing music that the game will hopefully have.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is set to launch on April 25th in North America and April 28th in Europe for the PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam). The game is also out on the Nintendo Switch in Japan, but as of right now, no western release date has been announced for that version- but hey, if you really want to play the game on your Switch, the good news is that the system is region free. Go nuts.

The first ever game announced for the Nintendo Switch, back when it was the NX, was Dragon Quest 11– today at the Nintendo Switch presentation, Nintendo confirmed that the game will indeed be coming to the Switch. We still don’t know which version it will be- will it be the 3DS version, the PS4 one, or one all for it? But we do know that the game is coming to it.

We also got confirmation that Dragon Quest 10, the Dragon Quest MMO that originally launched on Wii and Wii U, before launching on PC, 3DS, and PS4 as well, will also be making its way over to the Nintendo Switch. And Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes 2 will be launching for the Nintendo Switch as well- in fact, both of them will be available in a double pack at the system’s launch.

So for Dragon Quest fans, especially ones on Nintendo’s previous systems, which have all hosted multiple Dragon Quest games, this is great news.

It seems like Dragon Quest Heroes 2, the sequel to the PS4 exclusive (in the west) Dragon Quest action RPG, will finally be launching in the west some time next year. According to a listing for the game on leading American electronics store Best Buy (via DualShockers), Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is set to launch in North America on April 25 2017- though I must point out that this might as well be a placeholder date (it does sound a bit too specific to be one, however…).

Interestingly enough, the Best Buy page only lists a PS4 version for the game- the Japanese release was also on PS3 and PS Vita. While the original Dragon Quest Heroes did end up skipping the PS3 in the west, there was at least some hope that the sequel would launch on PS Vita, if nothing else. But no, it looks like everyone is cold shouldering the Vita at this point.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is available in Japan on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. It launched there in May this year.

Dragon Quest Heroes, the collaboration between Square Enix and Omega Force to develop am Dragon Quest themed Warriors game, but with more RPG elements, was an unexpected hit when it released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan earlier this year. it seems to have been so successful, however, that a sequel has already been announced. Dragon Quest Heroes 2 has been confirmed to be under development, and it will be releasing on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and also on PlayStation Vita.

Not much more is known about the game yet, except that it exists. Really, all that we have to go along with it is the logo accompanying the announcement, that you can see above. Still, based on the first game, it is probably reasonable to assume we know what the4 game will be like, except maybe bigger and expanded.

The original Dragon Quest Heroes came out on PS3 and PS4 in Japan in February. Its release is planned for the rest of the world later this year. There is no western date announced for the sequel yet.
