The hack-n-slash duo's Switch versions might be headed west.

Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors-inspired hack-n-slash duo of spinoffs, Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2, might be headed to the Switch in the west. The collection released for the system in Japan in 2017 but never came west, but as spotted over at ResetEra, a listing for the collection has gone up on Greek website The Console Club.

The price of the collection – €60 – would also suggest that this isn’t a listing for an imported copy, since that would be much costlier. This isn’t the first time reports about Dragon Quest 1 and 2 on the Switch coming to the west, nor is this coming from an official channel, so take it with a grain of salt right now. That said, this is the same retailer that also leaked Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Rogue coming to the Switch, which ended up being true, so this might be accurate as well.

Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated in case there’s any developments in the story.

Basically if you're a Dragon Quest fan, get this system.

The first ever game announced for the Nintendo Switch, back when it was the NX, was Dragon Quest 11– today at the Nintendo Switch presentation, Nintendo confirmed that the game will indeed be coming to the Switch. We still don’t know which version it will be- will it be the 3DS version, the PS4 one, or one all for it? But we do know that the game is coming to it.

We also got confirmation that Dragon Quest 10, the Dragon Quest MMO that originally launched on Wii and Wii U, before launching on PC, 3DS, and PS4 as well, will also be making its way over to the Nintendo Switch. And Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes 2 will be launching for the Nintendo Switch as well- in fact, both of them will be available in a double pack at the system’s launch.

So for Dragon Quest fans, especially ones on Nintendo’s previous systems, which have all hosted multiple Dragon Quest games, this is great news.

But no Vita version, it seems like.

It seems like Dragon Quest Heroes 2, the sequel to the PS4 exclusive (in the west) Dragon Quest action RPG, will finally be launching in the west some time next year. According to a listing for the game on leading American electronics store Best Buy (via DualShockers), Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is set to launch in North America on April 25 2017- though I must point out that this might as well be a placeholder date (it does sound a bit too specific to be one, however…).

Interestingly enough, the Best Buy page only lists a PS4 version for the game- the Japanese release was also on PS3 and PS Vita. While the original Dragon Quest Heroes did end up skipping the PS3 in the west, there was at least some hope that the sequel would launch on PS Vita, if nothing else. But no, it looks like everyone is cold shouldering the Vita at this point.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is available in Japan on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. It launched there in May this year.

Dragon Quest Builders, the brand new spin off for Square Enix’s long running, highly popular Dragon Quest series, was announced a while ago, but today, we got to see more of it for the very first time. And, true to the reveal, yep, it’s more Minecraft, only with a distinct Dragon Quest flair.

The art style is indeed evocative of the long running Dragon Quest games, with a blocky Minecraft look, while the main character looks a lot like Link, from The Legend of Zelda series (only not garbed in green, like that iconic character is).

Anyway, check out the new screenshots from the game below. Dragon Quest Builders is due to launch on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita by this year end in Japan. A western release date for the game has not yet been announced, but it is likely to come out here sooner rather than later, especially given that the franchise is seeing more and more localisation of late. Stay tuned for more coverage.

The Japanese giant returns to E3. What are they bringing with them? Watch the action live, here.

After so many years, Square Enix is returning to E3, which means that they have something up their sleeves. But first, let’s get the disappointments out of the way- Final Fantasy XV is confirmed to not be there. Kingdom Hearts III probably won’t be either.

So why bother? Because they have so much more that will be showcased. You can bet your ass Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be showcased in great detail at their show, while Star Ocean 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Bravely Second, and a rumored new Hitman game might all chip in too. We might get to see more of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and there have been rumblings of a new Chrono related announcement.

Will Square ENix deliver on their hype? Nah, they almost never do. Still, there’s an outside chance that they might. Why wouldn’t you want to catch all the action just in case that they do?

Hopefully we get the sequel soon too.

The Dragon Quest themed, Dynasty Warriors style action game, Dragon Quest Heroes, will be releasing in North America on October 13 for the PlayStation 4, Square Enix confirmed today. It launched in Japan earlier this year, in February, for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

We won’t be getting the PS3 version, but Square Enix revealed today that the Day One Edition and the Slime Collector’s Edition of Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below will be available this October. The Slime Collector’s Edition are available now for pre-order exclusively through the Square Enix Online Store.

The game will be featured at E3 this year as well, Square Enix confirmed, meaning at least one of their big Japanese franchises will be in the spotlight at the event (we already know Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts are skipping the event). We will keep you posted on all the news, so stay tuned.

The sequel to the hit action game coming soon.

Dragon Quest Heroes, the collaboration between Square Enix and Omega Force to develop am Dragon Quest themed Warriors game, but with more RPG elements, was an unexpected hit when it released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan earlier this year. it seems to have been so successful, however, that a sequel has already been announced. Dragon Quest Heroes 2 has been confirmed to be under development, and it will be releasing on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and also on PlayStation Vita.

Not much more is known about the game yet, except that it exists. Really, all that we have to go along with it is the logo accompanying the announcement, that you can see above. Still, based on the first game, it is probably reasonable to assume we know what the4 game will be like, except maybe bigger and expanded.

The original Dragon Quest Heroes came out on PS3 and PS4 in Japan in February. Its release is planned for the rest of the world later this year. There is no western date announced for the sequel yet.

Square Enix's latest makes the PS4 the top-selling console in Japan.

While the PlayStation Vita became the top-selling platform in Japan two weeks ago, it was the turn of the PS4 to dominate in this past week’s Media Create Charts. This was in part due to the release of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Heroes which sold 325,446 units on the PS3 and 269,303 units on the PS4 in its opening week.

Nintendo still maintained a fairly strong presence. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D sold 39,751 units bringing its lifetime sales up to 341,997 units while Yokai Watch 2: Shinuchi sold 16,443 units (lifetime sales having passed 2.5 million units). Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire continues to do well with 12,680 units sold in the past week despite being nearly 4 months old at this point.

While the PS Vita isn’t on top, it did occupy second place in the hardware charts. We wouldn’t call it a comeback but Sony’s handheld has some serious momentum going in Japan right now.

The Dragon Quest embargo is broken.

The wonderful looking Dragon Quest Heroes, the Dynasty Warriors inspired Dragon Quest action RPG spin off, was announced for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan, and a lot of people immediately assumed that the game would not be coming to the west; there was good reason to assume so too, since the west has not seen a Dragon Quest game released since Dragon Quest VI launched on the Nintendo DS without making much of a splash five years ago. In the period since then, we’ve had multiple high profile Dragon Quest related launches, including a full remake of Dragon Quest VII for the Nintendo 3DS, and Dragon Quest X for the PC, Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS, that Square Enix have decided to pass over.

That embargo ends now, as today, Square confirmed that Dragon Quest Heroes would in fact be coming to the west after all. The catch? Only the PlayStation 4 version is coming, so PS3 fans who may have been looking forward to the game are out of luck.

Dragon Quest Heroes launches in Japan this week, and a worldwide launch is presumed to follow later this year. Stay tuned.

Differences detailed.

One of the most pleasant surprises to come out of TGS last year was the announcement that Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series, one of the towering monuments of the JRPG genre, and Nintendo exclusive for the better part of a decade now, would be returning to PlayStation with Dragon Quest Heroes, a brand new Dragon Quest themed Dynasty Warriors game (think the Dragon Quest equivalent of Hyrule Warriors).

Dragon Quest Heroes was announced for both, PlayStation 3, and for PlayStation 4, which led to owners of both consoles immediately worrying that they would get the inferior version- for PS3 owners, it was the question of wondering whether the PS3 version would be a compromised downport, clearly far too taxing for the console’s aging hardware; for PS4 owners, it was a question of whether it would be a compromised upport, with nothing taking advantage of the newer PS4 exclusive features and resources.

Well, now Square Enix has answered how the game will be different across both consoles, and… it appears that the answer is somewhere in the middle. The game will be largely the same across both systems, but the PS4 version will get the PS4’s much vaunted Sharing features, in addition to very limited compatibility with SharePlay, as well as more enemies on screen than the PS3 version. The PS3 version is also confirmed to be running at 30FPS, while the PS4 version will hit 60FPS.

And that’s it- so if you have a PS3, you will not be missing out on anything by simply buying the game for that.

That is, of course, assuming it ever actually makes its way over to the west at all.
