Set after The Next Generation, the story sees Starfleet attempting to intervene as two civilizations clash. There are two playable characters – Jara Rydek, the USS Revolution’s First Officer and Carter Diaz, part of the engineering crew. Of course, Spock also appears as an ambassador for Starfleet.

The story jumps back and forth between the two characters, as players must make different decisions, resulting in the story branching. You could share information with Starfleet or keep it secret, save an ally or finish a mission, etc. All the usual Star Trek tropes are also here, from scanning and piloting to fighting with phasers. Dramatic Labs has announced that Star Trek: Resurgence will launch on May 23. Set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation’s timeline, its story will revolve around the conflict between two alien civilizations, with Starfleet forced to intervene in order to keep the peace.

The interactive narrative title’s story will switch back and forth between two protagonists- Jara Rydek, the First Officer of the U.S.S. Resolution, and part of Starfleet’s diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock; and engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz, who finds herself on the lower decks and is “caught up in the events in his own unique way.”

Dramatic Labs says players will “interact with the Star Trek universe like never before” and see “moments of authentic action and critical decisions that shape the broader narrative in subtle and unexpected ways.”

Star Trek: Resurgence will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

“Production has been advancing steadily all Summer, but we have made the difficult decision to move our release date out of 2022 in order to give the game a final coat of polish and create a truly immersive Star Trek experience.”

The team’s “love and admiration for Star Trek” was “instrumental to this decision. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, and this continues to be a passion project for everyone here. We are incredibly grateful – and excited – to be able to work within a universe that means so much to so many.”

It shared some new screenshots in the meantime, showcasing various characters and the USS Enterprise. Set after Star Trek: The Next Generation, Resurgence features two protagonists – Jara Rydek and Carter Diaz who must solve a mystery surrounding the fates of two civilizations. Along with dialogue choices, there’s plenty of action to go around with the player’s decisions impacting the overall story.

Based on the initial announcement in December 2021, Dramatic Labs may have needed more time to ensure the quality is up to par. Star Trek: Resurgence is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

According to Dramatic Labs, the story takes place sometime after Star Trek: The Next Generation, and sees players controlling two different characters as they work together on a mission to prevent an all-out galactic assault. Much like works by Telltale, players will have access to dialogue options that can radically change the outcome of the story. There’s not a lot of combat- at least from what we can tell based on the trailer.

The animations are looking to be rather janky, which, when coupled with the game’s subpar visual quality, creates an underwhelming first expression. Of course, one should never judge a book by its cover- and for all you know, Star Trek: Resurgence could prove to be an intriguing game when it releases for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring 2022.
