While the medium has no shortage of great games, there are also some that are just so bad that you wouldn't possibly have the courage or energy to finish them.

Game development is a pretty daunting task. It requires extensive labour and creative prowess over a long period of time. With the number of people in development teams ranging in the hundreds, it’s understandable that there are many moving parts to a game. If one breaks, it could derail the whole project. Sometimes, despite getting all things right on a technical level – things just don’t click. Either way, this results in a bad game, that most likely critics and gamers wouldn’t be willing to spend their time on. There has been no shortage of such games in the medium, and on that note – here are 15 such games that are so bad that you probably didn’t even care to finish them.

Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing

2003’s Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing is regarded as one of the worst games in the history of the medium, with good reason. The Stellar Stone developed title involves players making their way through the US in an effort to get cargo goods delivered within time. In actuality, however, playing it is an exercise in pain as you try to wrestle with the game’s multitude of bugs and other technical inefficiencies that will make you want to throw your controller in the air.

Bigger doesn't always mean better, and these ten games exemplify that all too well.

We all love a good open world game, and here at GamingBolt, we take every opportunity we get to gush on and on about some of our favourite ones. But maintaining a consistent level of quality across a massive open world experience isn’t exactly an easy task, and there have been more than a few examples of games over the years that have failed to do just that. Here, we’re going to talk about some of the worst open world games we’ve ever had the displeasure of playing.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 9

Dynasty Warriors as a series lives and dies by its large scale high-octane 1v1000 battles, and so, in Dynasty Warriors 9, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force, in their infinite wisdom, decided to… dilute that with an open world setting? This is a prime example of a series chasing a popular trend without any regard for whether or not that trend will be suited to its strengths. Worse still, not only did Dynasty Warriors 9’s open world detract from the game’s other strengths, it just wasn’t a very good open world to begin with itself.

Some successes lead to failures.

There have been quite a few examples in our industry over the years of developers and publishers trying to capitalize on the success of their games or properties, but failing to do so with sequels. These sequels don’t necessarily have to be bad games per se (though they often are), and can be perfectly decent in their own right, but by and large, fail to match up to the heights that their predecessors reached. In this feature, we will look at fifteen such sequels.

MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA

No one needs to be told about the massive legacy of the original Mass Effect trilogy. Barring some missteps here and there, BioWare’s first three Mass Effect games are collectively probably the best work they’ve ever done. Then there’s Mass Effect Andromeda, which is… not. To be fair, Andromeda is a good game in its own right, and it certainly has a lot going for it, but it just doesn’t do justice to the magic of its predecessors. Even if we ignore the overblown criticism the game was subject to at the time of its launch, we still have to accept that Andromeda is a pretty big step back from the Commander Shepard trilogy.
