Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been out only a week, and has been met with great reception from critics and players alike. And its success lies not just in critical acclaim. We already know Deus Ex has been topping all charts. But now, recently released chart data says that Deus Ex: Human Revolution sold 656,000 units in its opening week.

The Xbox 360 version sold 348,000 units, and was the highest selling version of the game. The PS3 version sold 228,000 units, while the PC version sold 80,000.

That’s really impressive. You rarely see such high sales figures within just one week of a game’s release. We don’t know if these charts are anything to go by, but we do think high sales for as game as good as this are completely justified.

Be sure to read our Xbox 360 and PS3 version reviews, written by different authors with different takes on the game.

The UK sales charts for the week are in, and guess what happened- Zumba Fitness, which had been topping the charts for so many weeks now, I’ve lost count, has finally been dethrones. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has swooped in and debuted at the No. 1 spot, pushing Zumba Fitness down to No.2.

In just two days, Human Revolution managed to sell so much, it’s just 26,000 units short of Invisible War’s lifetime sales in the UK.

Human Revolution’s market share was 57% on the Xbox 360, 31% on the PS3 and 13% on the PC. Though digital sales for the PC have not been accounted for yet.

Rugby World Cup has also done pretty well, debuting at the 3rd position.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is still clinging on in the list, managing to hold on to the 10th spot, and FIFA 11 also made an appearance, becoming the 7th highest selling game of the week in UK.

The full top ten for the week ending August 28 is below.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Zumba Fitness

Rugby World Cup 2011

LEGO: Pirates of the Caribbean

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Cars 2

FIFA 11

DiRT 3

LEGO: Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Deus Ex: Human Revolution on the PC, it seems, will be region locked. This comes a huge surprise, as games are rarely ever region locked on the PC. Eidos says retail copies of the game will be region locked, however, digitally purchased copies will be region-free.

This region locking is because of the disc size and its limitations.

“Just to be clear to everyone the region lock is just for the retail BOX copies.. ie if you physically buy a box in the UK it will have the uk region code etc, if you buy a boxed copy in russia will be locked to russia, everywhere else is covered by a rest of world region (including poland),” am Eidos admin said on the forums.

“Due to disc size limitations, the languages had to be split onto different masters (PCs dont have universal bluray drives yet so we couldnt put all on 1 disc this is why there is so much confusion)

“Also all versions have ALL languages available. So even if you buy the English UK version, you can change the language to French, German etc whenever you want.. The size of the game meant we couldnt fit all languages onto the disc so you will just download the language pack for the game that is all..”

However, an Eidos admin soon updated on the forums (NeoSquall, via VG247), that this will not be implemented in UK/Europe, and reminds us that this will only be implemented in BOX versions of the game, not digital or console releases.

“Region-locking plan UPDATE
We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK/Europe. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.”

[Kotaku]
