These 15 expansions are simply unmissable for fans that wish to have the complete experience.

While post-launch expansion packs aren’t as popular as they once used to be, every now and then we get fantastic DLCs that add so much to the base experience that they become an essential part of the package itself. Some might add a crucial new mechanic, some might tell independent stories, while others might fix key criticisms of the base game. And with this feature, we will look at 15 such examples of expansions that you need to check out.

The Witcher 3 – Hearts Of Stone

The Witcher 3 is a massive game that’s brimming with quality content that would keep one engaged for hours on end, but playing the base game alone isn’t the complete experience. Both of the game’s post-launch expansions including Hearts of Stone are equally good in their own right, but we are going with the latter of the DLCs for this list simply because of the fantastic story. Set in an entirely new section of the map called No Man’s Land, Hearts of Stone is all about Geralt trying to defeat the immortal Olgierd von Everec. Hearts of Stone also introduces new Monsters, side quests, and new combat mechanics like Runewords which come together to make this expansion a surprisingly fresh experience that’s unmissable for fans of The Witcher.

Tons of worlds have been created over the past few years - here are the very best so far.

Open world games are a popular genre and for good reason. They offer tons of things to do and let players get lost, just experimenting with this wide open sandbox. While there have been tons of incredible open world games over the years, this generation of gaming has undoubtedly offered the best. Let’s take a look at 30 of the best open world games of the generation here, ranked from good to the very best. Starting with number 30…

Mad Max

Veering away from massive open world destruction into post-apocalyptic, vehicular exploration, Mad Max was an odd turn for Avalanche Studios. It was about upgrading your car, the Magnum Opus, and taking on convoys. It was about assaulting bases and brawling with baddies. There were the unoriginal side quests, sure, but the sheer expanse of its rolling dunes and spectacle of the vehicle combat helped Mad Max stand out.

Dying Light The Following Enhanced Edition will be seeing a return of the much vaunted, Evolve style asymmetric multiplayer ‘Be the Zombie’ mode. However, this time around, the mode is bloodier, gorier, and much improved, making for a far more compelling experience than it did the first go around.

‘Be the Zombie plays much different in the expansion not only because of buggies and the new environment, but also because of various balance tweaks we made to the Night Hunter,’ explains producer Tymon Smektała. ’Altogether it translates into a new experience that will surprise even veteran Be the Zombie players.’

You can check out what it all looks like in the new trailer for the game, which you can see for yourself below. Dying Light The Following Enhanced Edition is out this month for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC- it simultaneously serves as a follow up to, and enhanced re-release of, the original Dying Light which launched early last year.

Want the vanilla copy for your collection? Better act fast.

Come February 9th and you won’t be finding Dying Light. The game isn’t disappearing from retail. Instead, it will be replaced by Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition, the definitive version of Dying Light which brings graphical enhancements to the base along with a bevy of new features. This includes The Following expansion which brings a new area, vehicles, weapons and missions to the experience.

Techland stated that, “The launch of Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition also means that the original version is going to be increasingly harder to come by.

“Digitally, it’ll disappear instantly on February 9th. As for retail, we will cease shipping additional copies, so it will remain available only as long as stocks last. If you plan to grab your copy of the vanilla Dying Light at a reduced price, or want the original box for your collection, now is the best time to do it.”

Though US players will get digital versions of the Enhanced Edition from February 9th onwards, European players will need to wait until February 12th for the same. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments.

And yet, the requirements for the PC version will remain the same, in spite of the size.

As the release of Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition draws nearer, we’re getting almost daily new trailers for the game. The newest one, which came out today, and which you can see for yourself below, shows off an enormous new map, called Countryside, which it introduces to the package.

‘We made sure the new region is full of diverse environments that allow for both driving and free-running. We’ve added lots of little details that tell various apocalyptic stories if you look closely, and placed rewarding secrets for the most inquisitive,’ said producer Tymon Smektała. ‘We’re also proud to confirm that despite the much bigger map and many visual enhancements, the system requirements for PC players remain exactly the same.’

Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition will launch on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in February. It’s the best version of last year’s breakout hit parkour zombie action game yet, so if you’ve been waiting to hop on aboard, there has never been a better time than now.

Techland's Tymon Smektala believes cloud gaming opens up many possibilities.

For those who are unaware, Dying Light first came out a year ago. Back then, the PS4 and Xbox One were fairly new to the market and the development team behind those two consoles were slowly pushing out performance improvements. A year later and both Sony and Microsoft have unlocked the 7th core of both console’s CPU thereby giving a decent boost to the performance of the games using them.

Techland are currently working heads down on Dying Light’s upcoming expansion pack, The Following and the lead producer of the title, Tymon Smektala has revealed to GamingBolt that they are using the extra CPU core on the consoles.

“Dying Light was made and optimized to work on 6 cores since that’s what was available when we made the game. So the opening up of the 7th core CPUs on both platforms simply gave us a good reserve of processing power,” Tymon tells us. “It essentially gave us a helping hand in dealing with more processor intensive situations, but given when Dying Light was developed, it simply means we use the additional CPU power as a nice to have and not something we need have to rely on.”

Tymon also gave his take on cloud based graphics processing and stated that they are definitely considering its potential.

“New tech is always welcome and whenever stuff like this comes out our engine and R&D teams are on it right from the start to see what can be done. I can’t say how much we could using the tech now for Dying Light since it’s an existing game that runs on multiple platforms. But in the future, we’d definitely consider its potential. You can already see examples of upcoming games using the tech and it just opens up so many possibilities,” Tymon added.

Dying Light: The Following launches next month for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Hunt your nightmares.

Techland’s upcoming Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition will include an all new, harder difficulty mode. The Nightmare Mode is a new difficulty level which restricts overpowered Easter Egg weapons, introduces XP penalties for dying, ramps up the difficulty of enemies, and more. Basically, it’s like someone got some Dark Souls in your Dying Light.

“We’ve designed the Nightmare Mode for those seeking a really challenging and immersive experience. Nightmare Mode takes everything that was brutal in our Hard Mode and twists it even more” – says producer Tymon Smektała. “We’re trying to bring the Dying Light experience closer and closer to the feeling of a real apocalypse survival experience where every move you make can really determine if you live or die. We’ve added one bit of salvation though. Playing Nightmare Mode in co-op will earn you XP faster and increase your chance of finding gold tier weapons.”

Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition launches on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in February.

Techland and Warner Bros.’ Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition has now gone gold, Techland announced today. The game, which is due to launch at retail next month, is now complete, leaving Techland free to talk about the new features it will have- such as its new challenge categories.

“Now that the Enhanced Edition has gone gold, we can focus on telling our fans everything they want to know about the enhancements we’ve made,” said Maciej Binkowski, lead game designer.

“Today we’re showing Bounties. Basically, these are unique objectives that change every day. So even if you did all the quests, challenges, you always have a reason to jump in, preferably with some friends. Bounties are a great way to bump up your XP, especially for the new Legend Levels which players will unlock once they max out one the base skill trees.”

These Bounties were shown off in a brand new trailer for the title, which you can see for yourself below. Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition will launch on February 9 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Techland have announced that Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition will be launching on February 9, 2016 worldwide on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PCs running Windows. The package will come with an enhanced edition of the original game, as well as the expansion pack Dying Light: The Following, The Bozak Horde mode, the Be the Zombie mode, the Cuisine & Cargo challenge missions, and the Ultimate Survivor Bundle, all for $60.

“We didn’t want to follow the beaten track and just re-release our game in a new wrapping with the current DLC added on,” said Techland’s Maciej Binkowski, lead game designer. “That’s why for the last half year we’ve been working on a ton of enhancements that we’re now going to make available to everyone. We’re adding bonus post-game content, a Nightmare difficulty level, nearly 100 new animations, new NPC models, advanced AI behaviors, and more. One year after the original release, Dying Light will be even bigger.”

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more information on the game.
