Anger can be destructive and destruction in video games can be cathartic. Put these together and you have the special Rage Mode/Berserk mechanic that’s permeated many an action game over the decades. What are some of the best games that do it? Let’s take a look at 15 of them here.

Rage – God of War Series

Kratos has always had his share of anger issues but on the other hand, his Rage modes throughout the series are just incredible fun. The first game is fairly straightforward – more damage dealt, less damage received. Rage of the Titans in God of War 2 upped this by allowing reduced damage from foes, immunity to knockbacks and debuffs, and up to triple the damage dealt. Then there’s Rage of Sparta in God of War 3 which manifested the Blade of Olympus while also providing increased movement, damage resistance and so on. However, we have to give it to God of War (2018)’s Spartan Rage where Kratos simply wales on enemies with his bare fists, gaining health regen and damage resistance in the process.

Samurai Warriors 4 May Be Coming to the West in Summer 2014

Samurai Warriors 4 producer Hisashi Koinuma said on Twitter that the game will probably be released in the west, even giving it a tentative release date of Summer 2014, reports Siliconera.

A fan tweeted him, asking “can we get Samurai Warriors 4 for the West please?” To which he replied, “Yes. Perhaps, next summer.”

Samurai Warriors 4 is currently being developed for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita, and it is due for release on those systems in Japan on March 20, 2014. However, the west is not being left out of the action either, as we’re getting Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends next spring. Then there’s always Hyrule Warriors, due out next year, which is the bizarre Zelda/Dynasty Warriors spin off for the Wii U. Dynasty Warriors 8 will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. So basically, you should be set for musou action unless you only own an Xbox console.

PS4 Showcase: Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, Natural Doctrine and Dynasty Warriors 8 Announced

Sony had a fairly strong presser in Japan where it announced the Japanese release date for the PlayStation 4, a new model for the Vita called the PlayStation Vita 2000 and gameplay from upcoming exclusives. It also revealed quite a few Sony-exclusive games as well which will be available on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

First, we’ve got Kadokawa Game Studio’s Natural Doctrine which will be arriving for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. Described as a fantasy RPG with natural selection – the strongest species serving the basis for evolution – it will support multiplayer and cross-play.

Then there’s Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- was next, and it will be arriving for the PS4 and PS3. Though announced some time ago, this is the first confirmation of a PS3 release we’ve heard since its initial announcement.

Finally we have Dynasty Warriors 8, which will be arriving in Japan for the PS4. It will be launching on February 22nd 2014, the launch date for PS4 in Japan, and is truly the eighth game in the series. We don’t know who would care outside of Japan, but the series is still big there at least.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is the latest entry in the long running hack’n’slash third person action franchise that we all know and possibly love since the PlayStation One days. How does the new entry in the series adds to the franchise, despite the fact that the game’s core gameplay hasn’t changed much since the last few titles? Is the new Dynasty Warriors title worth your time and money, or is it strictly for the fans of the franchise?

As far as presentation goes, Dynasty Warriors 8 stays true to its heart and is something you can expect from a game like this. If you’re familiar with art-style, graphics, soundtrack of the game and you like it, then you’ll be happy with what the presentation has to offer. Meanwhile, the cheesy English voice acting can get a tad stupid during the story cut-scenes. Characters also say the same victory lines repeatedly during gameplay, which can get quite annoying and irritating at times.

I am not a massive fan when it comes to the story in games like this, so it all depends if you’re familiar with the Dynasty Warrior franchise or not. I can’t honestly say much when it comes to the story being good or bad, it all depends on previous events in the game and what you come to expect.

Different people will react differently to the events in Dynasty Warriors 8. However, it was intriguing to see what happens after every stage and where your army will go next to invade. Overall, if you’re a fan of Dynasty Warriors 8 then you will be happy for the most part with the exception of a few annoying things and the dated graphics that the series is known for.

Gameplay in Dynasty Warriors 8 hasn’t changed much with the exception of the new Ambition Mode, which is impressive. The game has a Story Mode and Free Mode as well. In Story Mode, the players gets to choose which Kingdom’s story they want to participate in. Each Kingdom has different scenarios and battles throughout multiple stages of the game. There are a total of three kingdoms you can choose from including Wei , Shu and Wu Kingdoms.

The Story Mode also has a new mechanic called “What if?” In this new mechanic, the player can change the objective of the stage by completing a certain event which creates a new piece of history that never actually happened in real life. Other than that, if you’ve played a previous Dynasty Warriors games then you know what to expect as far as the gameplay goes in Story Mode.

Ambition Mode is the newest gameplay mode for the Dynasty Warriors 8, and it’s a complete blast. In Ambition Mode, the players get to a city called Tonquetai Palace. In order for players to grow their town, they need to participate in numerous battles, build friendships with officers by defeating them in battles and then recruiting them as partners. At the beginning of Ambition Mode, the player has access to a weapon shop that acts as a facility.

More facilities can be added later as the user progresses throughout Ambition Mode. As you play the game, more people will start joining your city, and you will start to see growth. There is a lot to do in this mode and plenty of stuff to unlock for your city. This is a fantastic addition to the series and is probably the best part of the game.

Trophies in Dynasty Warriors 8 are quite plentiful. However, it may take you up-to more than 100 hours to get your shiny platinum. Majority of the trophies ask you to finish all the story modes, complete all the stages on Chaos difficulty, collect all the weapons, unlock every voice dialogue of each character and artworks in the gallery.

Then there are trophies that ask you to do random things such as destroying a ton of weapons, killing 1000 soldiers while riding a horseback and killing a certain amount of enemies with your pet companion. Meanwhile, the most time consuming trophy is certainly the one that asks you to raise every character’s friendship/relationship status to maximum. There is no doubt that if you are a long time Dynasty Warriors fan you will be happy with the trophy list.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is a excellent entry in the series. If you’re a fan of the series and looking for a good way to end the franchise this generation, then Dynasty Warriors 8 will be a perfect choice. Even if you’re not a fan of the franchise then you should give Dynasty Warriors 8 a shot.

UK Sales Charts: The Last of Us is Number 1 for Sixth Week

Naughty Dog’s premier action adventure exclusive for the PS3 is showing no signs of letting up, as The Last of Us is on top of the all formats charts in the UK again, according to the latest UKIE games charts courtesy Gfk Chart-Track.

This marks the sixth week in a row, starting from the game’s release on June 10th, that The Last of Us has topped the sales charts. It is followed this week by Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, which jumped from fifth place the week prior to second place, and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. which holds steady at third place.

Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Leaf has fallen to fourth place in the charts even as a new challenger appears in the form of Dynasty Warriors 8, debuting at the fifth position this week. Surprisingly, Rockstar Games has made a comeback this month with Max Payne 3 (number 7), Grand Theft Auto Episodes: Liberty City (number 17) and Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition (number 18).

Dynasty Warriors 8 Shu Kingdom Video

Koie have released a new video that showcases some of the key characters from the Shu kingdom in Dynasty Warriors 8. Dynasty Warriors 8 is the next entry in the Dynasty Warriors franchise. This is probably the last Dynasty Warriors game that will be coming out for this generation.

There’s not much to say other than the graphics still looks sub-par and the English voice acting is still a tad cheesy. However, Dynasty Warriors always manages to charm the fans with it’s somewhat repetitive gameplay but yet fun at the same time.

Dynasty Warriors 8 Delayed Till July 19th

Fans of the Dynasty Warriors series will need to wait for the series’ eight rendition to come out, as Tecmo Koei Europe announced that Dynasty Warriors 8 will now release on July 19th 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe. There’s been no reason given for the delay.

Dynasty Warriors 8 continues the series’ look at historical battles through the eyes of various military and political leaders. It will pack in tons of new characters, stages, modes and even multiple endings for those interested in the continuing conflict between the Three Kingdoms of China (though the Wei, Wu, Shu and Jin presence would indicate four kingdoms. Not that we’re complaining).

There are plenty of goodies to be had as well, as those pre-order the game now will receive a DLC pack with outfits for Zhou Yu, Lu Xun, Cao Cao, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu from Dynasty Warriors 1. Stay tuned for more news as Dynasty Warriors 8 releases next month.

Tecmo Koei Releases Videos For Toukiden, Dynasty Warriors 8, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z And More

If you believe or not, Tecmo Koei are one publisher that are churning out one quality title after another and at E3 they were doing just that. They have released brand new information on several of their upcoming games like Toukiden, Dynasty Warriors 8, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland.

Toukiden feels a bit like Soul Sacrifice and is developed by the team that created Dynasty Warriors. The game is exclusively coming on the PlayStation Vita later this year. Check out some screens and the E3 video below.

Dynasty Warriors 8 features new enhancements to story mode, new scenarios, an all-new ambition mode, new and returning characters. I never quite understood this series but the fans seems to be loving it (We are on the 7th sequel!).

When you have a legendary producer in Keiji Inafune and a talented team looking after Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z:, things cannot go wrong. This different take on the Ninja Gaiden franchise pits a cyber ninja against zombies. The game releases next year on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland adds new elements of land development to the RPG and simulation game system, providing additional depth and gameplay in this anime-style adventure.

Tecmo Koei E3 2013 Lineup Includes Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

Tecmo Koei has announced its lineup for the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2013, and will feature some big name games based on popular franchises, with a few new IPs also to debut.

The biggest would be Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, developed by Team Ninja alongside comcept and Keiji Inafune, which will present a cel-shaded zombie hack and slash experience with a cybernetic ninja protagonist (so essentially Ninja Gaiden on crack). So far, Yaiba is scheduled to release in early 2014 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will also be showcased alongside Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland, Dynasty Warriors 8 and Toukiden. It has also confirmed DOA 5 Ultimate for release on September 6th for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Another interesting title is Toukiden, developed by the Dynasty Warriors team that will focus on a demon slayer in an ancient, fantasy Japan setting. Key figures from Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja will also be present during the convention.
