Starting with Eagle Flight, Ubisoft has announced that its VR games will support cross platform play. Eagle Flight is available from today, and from now on, Ubisoft has said that owners of Oculus, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR will be able to team up or engage each other in multiplayer games going forward.

“Making our VR titles cross-platform has been a goal of ours from the start,” said David Votypka, senior creative director at Red Storm, developer of Eagle Flight. “Our games feature a strong multiplayer experiences, so letting friends play together regardless of which headset they own will enhance the social nature of our games and let them be played the way we envisioned.”

Upcoming Ubisoft games, including Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Werewolf Within, will all support cross platform VR. Eagle Flight is available right now for Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, with the HTC Vive version launching December 20.

In an effort to facilitate easier play between users on various VR headsets, Ubisoft has announced that Eagle Flight will support cross-platform VR headset play between Oculus Rift users on PC and PlayStation VR users on PS4. HTC Vive users can expect support to be added once that version is out on December 20th.

Among other publishers, Ubisoft will be making its way to Gamescom 2016 on August 17th to 21st and showcasing a whole range of titles. The company announced that it would have Eagle Flight, For Honor, Steep, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Watch Dogs 2 available for attendees to try out.

EMEA executive director at Ubisoft Alain Corre noted that, “Gamescom is a key moment for the industry and for our teams. The show gives us the opportunity to put our games into thousands of players’ hands and get their feedback to make them even better.

“It’s also the place where Ubisoft can showcase the innovations that are driving the industry in terms of gameplay and technology, and the variety of amazing experiences these allow us to create. With that variety in mind, we’ll be showing some of our most highly-anticipated games at Gamescom.”

Fans can also expect exclusive footage behind the scenes of the Assassin’s Creed film on August 18th. What are your thoughts on Ubisoft’s Gamescom line-up? Let us know in the comments.

Out this Fall on various VR platforms.

Ubisoft showcased the first footage for Eagle Flight, its VR title on Oculus Rift and other platforms which puts you in the perspective of an eagle. The gameplay seems to be divided into teams with two teams competing to collect a “rabbit” and delivering it before the enemy team can stop them.

To do this, you’ll navigate through the city of Paris reclaimed by nature and weave through different structures. The locations for the rabbit seem to change – it can even emerge on the Eiffel Tower at times, which is weird but we’ll roll with it. If you can get past the incessant cawing then good on you.

Eagle Flight will be out this Fall but you can expect more gameplay to emerge from the show floor. What are your thoughts on the game? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more details as Ubisoft’s presser rolls on.

Oh, SCE Santa Monica, how far you've fallen.

Sigh.

Sony devoted a significant portion of the PlayStation Experience keynote to PlayStation VR, its upcoming VR headset for the PS4. As it stands, games like Golem did a fairly okay job in convincing you to check the hardware out. Eagle Flight didn’t look terrible and Rez Infinite is, well, Rez in VR. So that counts for something positive.

Unfortunately, Sony also chose this as the right time to shovel other VR offerings on to the masses, regardless of their quality. Job Simulator isn’t the first game we think of when wanting to experience VR; 100 Ft Robot Golf seems like a joke that would stop getting funny awfully fast; and the Modern Zombie Taxi Co…really, do you need any more evidence that SCE Santa Monica has followed Rare’s career trajectory and completely lost its way? Now we can await the eagerly anticipated Santa Monica Replay to relive the glory days of the God of War developer.

But I digress. What did you think of Sony’s VR offerings? Let us know in the comments below.
