Earth Defense Force 5’s release has been delayed to sometime later this year, but a spinoff of Earth Defense Force 4 is set to appear this fall as a digital- only title for the PS4 in Japan. The game will be called Earth Defense Force 4.1: Wing Diver the Shooter and will be a shoot ‘em up game.

Earth Defense Force 4 featured the attempts of the EDF to battle against the Ravagers, however the spinoff title will feature those aspects of the story not given attention to in Earth Defense Force 4’s main story. The game will feature more than 60 weapons which will aid the player in battling hordes of enemies.

The game is being developed by Clouds and Giga Rensya and will sell for 2,980 yen in Japan. For fans of the series, the spin-off title should prove adequately interesting and a nice change of pace until Earth Defense Force 5 is finally released.
