The classic platformer makes a comeback in truly bizarre fashion.

Yesterday, we wrote about the bizarre news of Bethesda giving away a RAGE 2-themed Dreamcast in a contest. If you thought that was going to be the weirdest news you’d hear this week, you’d be wrong. It seems that Earthworm Jim is coming back, with the entire original team, and it will be exclusive to the Intellivision Amico.

So, if you didn’t know, Intellivision is making a come back, or attempting to anyway. It’s spearheaded by Tommy Tallarico, video game composer and creator of the annual Video Games Live! concert. The system is said to be focusing on 2D games and aimed at families. Via his Twitter, Tallarico announced the game and its exclusivity to the Amico, which you can see below.

Earthworm Jim was a platformer originally released for the Sega Genesis about an earthworm who has an advanced robotic spacesuit and battles evil forces. It saw several sequels and re-releases through the years and even got a cartoon adaptation in the late ‘90s. Its odd humor and premise made it somewhat of a cult hit. It’s definitely an out of nowhere announcement, either way, and we’ll hopefully get a look at it soon.

Water, water everywhere and all the annoyances to be had. Check out the most agonizing water levels in games.

Water levels. You know them. You’ve probably grown up with them. All in all, they’re fairly wretched. Not all water levels are badly designed but by virtue of their gimmick, they can be incredibly frustrating to play through. Let’s take a look at 15 terrible water levels in video games that’ll make you question life itself. Probably.

Orange Ocean – Kirby Super Star

Kirby Super Star is easily one of the best games made. No question. But Orange Ocean, a level in Revenge of Meta Knight, is kind of annoying. It starts off with Kirby underwater and the game auto-scrolls, which is an immediate tilter. Not only is Kirby slower and unable to use most abilities but you also have to dodge cannon fire. Just make sure you don’t die to the auto-scrolling (because obviously there’s a section where that can happen).

We remember some famous letdowns when gaming bosses let their stage take all the limelight.

Your blood is pumping and your heart is pounding fast in your chest. You’ve been at this particular stretch of the game for the last week, struggling to overcome the challenges in front of you and excited to see how it will all wrap up. Sometimes, that all ends with a climactic boss battle while really makes you feel good about becoming better than you were before. And then sometimes, it just doesn’t. This list is all about those anti-climaxes, those non-fights that kill the mood and when your momentum just stops. Be sure to save yours for the comments below!

Frankenstein – Super Castlevania IV

Taking place late into Simon Belmont’s Super Nintendo raid on the armies of Darkness holed up inside Castlevania, the Dungeons are a gruelling trek of spikes, bottomless pits and deathtraps that the gauntlet of enemies ahead of you would be more than happy to knock you back into. Not unexpected so late into a game like Super Castlevania 4. Make it to the end of Stage 8 however, and instead of climaxing with a major test of reflexes, you come face to face with Frankenstein’s Monster. The creature will slowly lumber back and forth, occasionally tossing potions your way that are easily sniped from the air with your whip, and Simon can without risk simply wale on the beast as long as he keeps sniping those potions, finishing the stage within seconds.

Whether its pushovers or powerhouses mercilessly trivialized, these bosses didn't take much to beat.

Some bosses are big challenges, demanding continuous retries. Others are smaller but still push you, providing a nice little fight en route to worse threats. However, there are some bosses that can be brushed aside rather easily. Whether it’s an hellacious boss taken down with an incredible build or actual pushovers, here are 15 bosses that took almost zero effort to beat. Spoilers in-bound.

Champion Gundyr – Dark Souls 3

So Champion Gundyr isn’t the toughest Dark Souls boss to beat and that’s perfectly fine since he’s the starting boss of Dark Souls 3. But why not trivialize the heck out of him anyway? Popular Souls one-shotter Ray Dhmitri used a number of buffs (Dragon Form, Flynn’s Ring etc.) along with the Fume Greatsword. He then went with a riposte attack to effectively kill Gundyr in one motion. Seems about right.

Is a new Earthworm Jim incoming?

The original creator of the Earthworm Jim series is happening to be teasing a new Earthworm Jim game via Facebook. Doug TenNapel on Facebook says “Everyone loves Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, and I don’t generally acknowledge EWJ 3 [Earthworm Jim 3D] as a real part of the Jim universe. So if I was making another Jim game, would it be too confusing to call it Jim 3? Or would it have to be Jim 4? How about ‘Earthworm Jim 4 the Fans’?”

A new Earthworm Jim game on next-generation consoles would be fantastic or even a triple-A Earthworm Jim indie game would still be fascinating, given the reach of tablets and mobiles.

Let us know if you are looking forward to a new Earthworm Jim game in the future, in the comments section below.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news and updates.
