Tetsuya Nomura was a fan of the classic PlayStation 1 shoot 'em up.

With so much hype surrounding it, sometimes we forget that Square-Enix’s Kingdom Hearts 3 is a massive game. Along with various Disney worlds to explore, there’s a deep combat system, mini-games and additional activities like the Gummi Ship. The Gummi Ship is a shoot ’em up section introduced in previous Kingdom Hearts titles as a way to traverse between different worlds.

While it wasn’t outright terrible in Kingdom Hearts 2, it will be receiving a big upgrade in Kingdom Hearts 3. According to director Tetsuya Nomura while speaking to Dengeki PlayStation (via Hokanko-Alt), the Gummi Ship is being handled by the director and staff for Einhänder. As a big fan of Einhänder, Nomura is interested in seeing how the new Gummi Ship pans out.

Other notable details include a free movement mode for the Gummi Ship (to make it feel more open world) and a battle specialization mode. More details on the Gummi Ship’s customization will be revealed later. Nomura also revealed that there won’t be optional worlds since many players visit them all anyway.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is out on January 25th 2019 for Xbox One and PS4.

These old-school classics were fun but rarely pulled any punches when it came to difficulty.

Looking back on the PlayStation One era doesn’t just fill our hearts with joy at the memories of Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid and PaRappa the Rapper. It also reminds us of some of the most difficult titles in gaming, games that strained our patience and sense of enjoyment for years. Let’s go through 15 of these titles here, shall we?

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee

Abe’s Oddysee is darkly imaginative but also fiercely tough. Not only can Abe be gunned down quickly (which guards are more than happy to do) but there’s no small amount of traps, obstacles, and disasters waiting to happen. Furthermore, Abe has to go out of his way to save his fellow Mudokons…that is, unless a good ending isn’t a priority for the player.
