End of Nations was supposed to be the next big thing coming to us from Trion Worlds, the people who, among other things, got us Rift and Defiance. But now it seems like its development is on hold- indefinitely.

A Trion Worlds spokesperson told Videogamer, “As we informed End of Nation’s community last fall, internal development on End of Nations was put on hold in late 2013 while we evaluated potential paths forward for the title. We’re currently focusing the company’s energy and creativity on Rift, Defiance, Trove, ArcheAge, and some new projects that we will be revealing soon.”

This is troubling news for those who were looking forward to the game, but will probably come as no surprise to anyone who has been following its troubled development. While the game’s troubled saga has surely been frustrating, at least in a sense, its final, definitive closure and cancelation will provide fans with some sort of catharsis and just let them move on.

Instead of, you know, what happened with The Last Guardian or Half Life 3.

The formerly Petroglyph developed MMORTS, End of Nations, is now going to be a MOBA. The game, which made a full genre switch, will remain free to play and will, according to the game’s official website, be the world’s first ‘MOBA RTS.’

Publisher Trion Worlds is now accepting beta applications on the game’s official website.

“End of Nations is a tactical MOBA where your success on the battlefield depends on the heroes and units you command and quick decision making in the heat of combat,” says Trion. “Dominate during team-based matches and catapult your commander to the top of the ranks.”

End of Nations has had a tumultuous development cycle, initially being announced as an online RTS, before making the switch to a free to play online RTS. Last December, the game switched developers entirely, from Petroglyph to an internal Trion team, and now, it has made a full genre switch.

Hopefully, after all this switching around, the game will turn out fine and actually, you know, release.

It’s a free-to-play MMO and also features traditional subscription options. It features PvE, PvP and cooperative gameplay.

This includes Rift: Storm Legion, a first look at End of Nations’ campaign gameplay, player vs player combat in Defiance, and of course, brand new content for Warface (which will see a global release outside of Russia soon).

There’s quite a lot of gameplay goodness on offer, what with End of Nations’ single player campaign being playable across 24 PCs. The developer will also be on hand to provide some insight into the project. And really, this much mayhem wouldn’t go without some PvP competition, would it?

Defiance’s multi-platform cross-over insanity will feature the same, only this has been previously unseen till now. How good will it be? We’ll just have to find out.

And quite frankly, anything that competes with Call of Duty: Online in China has us excited.

The new trailer highlights the villainous Shadow Revolution, one of two playable factions in the fast-paced strategy title.

The Shadow Revolution, whose core values are order, security, and control is comprised of two distinct classes that help players shape their role in the massive battle for global domination. The first is the hit-and-run Wraith Class, which specializes in light and quick vehicles such as APCs and chopper units with high speed and long range output. The second is the Phantom Class whose specialty is stealth and hard-hitting tanks plus infantry units that excel in attack, power and mobility.
