Capcom announced a wave of new cosmetic DLC for Street Fighter 5 in light of the Capcom Cup but it also announced when players could expect the next DLC character.

At EVO 2016, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the next character would be Juri Han, a taekwondo expert, and the DLC itself would be arriving by July end. More information wasn’t revealed.

Juri was seen in the Story mode that arrived for Street Fighter 5 recently with data on the PC version exploited to use her character early. The DLC will mark her official release and availability for PS4 as well.

As for other DLC for Street Fighter 5, it includes new stages, colour options and new costumes for characters like Chun-Li and Cammy. The overall cosmetic package costs $25 and will add to the prize pool for the Capcom Cup.

Stay tuned for more information on when Juri becomes available, especially since we’re nearing the end of July.

Capcom's strategy to focus only on pro players paid off somewhere.

We already knew that Street Fighter 5 was going to be the star of the show at EVO this year, but no one, and I mean no one, quite possibly predicted the monstrous success it would go on to be- EVO just now announced that Street Fighter 5 has crossed 5,000 registrants at EVO this year, which makes it far and away the game with the most registered participants at the premier annual fighting game tournament.

Street Fighter 5 has also in the process broken (and set) records in terms of registrant numbers. It is now the game that has seen the most number of registrants for it in a single year.

As for other games this year, Nintendo is bringing up the runners-up podium- Smash 4 and Melee both have over 4,000 participants each, while Pokken Tournament has over 1,000 registrants. This makes these games, as well as Street Fighter, of course, the most popular games at the tournament, by far.

The competitive community comes through.

Street Fighter V’s launch has been a bit of a disaster – negative scores, backlash from players, missing modes, non functional online, and now, apparently, low sales, too – but the game was primarily made to cater to a competitive community. And that community, at least, has taken to the game in droves.

Just four days after registration at EVO opened, and less than a week after Street Fighter V launched, the game has already broken EVO’s registration records- and considering just how high the registration numbers were for some games last year (especially Ultra Street Fighter IV and Super Smash Bros.) that is truly impressive.

I think in the end, Street Fighter V’s excellent gameplay – which was never in question, after all – will shine through. The launch problems will eventually be fixed, and all of the problems will be a distant memory. But Street Fighter V is an excellently playing fighting game, which will ensure that it remains a community staple for years to come.

Street Fighter V is available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
