Poland's Prime Minister returns, looking as fearsome as ever. Meanwhile, the third and fourth DLC fighters of Season 1 arrive in Autumn and Winter.

If it weren’t enough to see Bandai Namco announce free updates and new story content for Tekken 8 this year, it also outlined its roadmap for Season 1 DLC fighters. After Eddy Gordo, the next DLC character is one that should be familiar to Tekken 7 fans – Lidia Sobieska. Check out some teases of her power below.

Lidia was the Prime Minister of Poland in the previous game and a Karate practitioner. She entered the Iron Fist Tournament after Heihachi Mishima refused to remove the Tekken Force from her country, as you do. How her story plays out this time, especially with Heihachi out of the picture, remains to be seen.

It should also be interesting to see how it plays into the free Main Story chapter, which features Eddy allying with Jin Kazama. As for other Season 1 characters, the third arrives this Autumn, while the fourth debuts in Winter. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements in the meantime.

Eddy Gordo plays a big role in the new story content, allying with Jin Kazama. Meanwhile, Jun lies in a mysterious forest.

Bandai Namco has a lot in store for Tekken 8 fans this year, starting with a new balance patch this Spring. While a new stage and Photo Mode will go live this Summer, perhaps the most intriguing announcement is a new Main Story chapter launching this Autumn for free. Check out some teases from it in the Season 1 trailer.

The story chapter sees Eddy Gordo (who went live earlier this month as a DLC fighter) rallying the troops. Nina Williams arrives via helicopter, and he seemingly goes forth to fight her. The scene then cuts to Jun Kazama, lying in a forest, and then to Eddy again at Lars’ base and meeting with Jin in a show of alliance.

How long the story chapter will be and how it affects the main story remains to be seen. Considering how the story ends, perhaps it helps tie up some loose ends. As always, stay tuned for more details.

Tekken 8 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out our review here – we awarded it a 9 out of 10.

The new balance patch goes live this Spring. The new Seaside Resort stage and Photo Mode go live this Summer as free additions.

During EVO Japan 2024, Bandai Namco released a new trailer showcasing upcoming updates for Tekken 8. A new balance patch will be available this Spring, but fans can expect several free post-launch updates. Check out the trailer below.

Seaside Resort will be added as a new stage this Summer, with a gorgeous beach for players to fight on, complete with different times of day (and even fireworks at night). Photo Mode also launches during the same period, allowing players to pause the action and capture images of their favorite fighters. Several effects, like raindrops on the camera, can be selected.

Online Practice and Ghost vs. Ghost are also in the works (though no release windows have been announced). Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

Tekken 8 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out our review here. Despite a positive critical reception at launch and two million copies sold, the fighting game has seen some backlash due to its monetization practices. Head here for more details.

Like other contemporary fighters, SNK offers a simple control setup called Smart Controls for easily performing combos and techniques.

SNK has released a fighting guide for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves ahead of EVO Japan 2024, outlining all the mechanics players should know. The REV System is the central focus, but there’s also the return of Just Defense and Hyper Defense from Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

The former triggers when blocking an opponent’s attack at the right moment and provides a slight decrease to the REV meter and healthy recovery while also allowing you to perform a Guard Cancel. The latter offers the same benefits but is performed by timing forward inputs to block a multi-hit attack. Guard Cancels let you immediately interrupt your block and perform a Special Move, Ignition Gear, Redline Gear, REV Blow and Hidden Gear.

If you Guard Cancel into an Ignition or Redline Gear, they’re performed faster, making them much deadlier. Braking is somewhat similar, though it involves canceling the animation of certain Special Moves for more potential combos. Those in the mood to mess with their opponents can also perform Feints, where your character pretends to perform a Special move. It also reduces the recovery after a normal attack.

Like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves features streamlined controls called Smart Style. Repeatedly pressing Circle executes a Smart Combo while mashing Square when near an opponent performs a Combination Attack. Some actions, like Feint, are missing and available only with Arcade Style.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches in early 2025, though platforms have yet to be announced.

REV Blows, REV Accel and REV Arts open up new ways to play, though use them too much, and you'll enter an Overheat state.

With EVO Japan set for April 27th to 29th, SNK has released a new guide for those checking out the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves demo. The sequel to 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves features several new and returning characters, plus new mechanics like the REV System.

Relying on the new REV Meter, these techniques will build it up; some rely on Selective Potential Gear or S.P.G. being active (which we’ll get to in a bit). REV Blows follows the latter and allows for shrugging off attacks while counter-attacking. REV Arts requires pressing Light Punch + Heavy Punch or Light Kick + Heavy Kick after using a Special move, unleashing a stronger version.

REV Accel allows for chaining REV Arts into each other or a REV Blow. REV Guard is a defensive move with a dedicated button that provides more space between opponents and negates chip damage from Special moves. When the REV Meter overheats, it’s no longer usable, and the Guard gauge depletes until you enter the Guard Crush state. Landing attacks and or waiting it out helps restore the REV Meter.

Like in Garou, the S.P.G. can be assigned to the start, middle or end of your health bar – it activates when your health drops to that region, increasing attack strength. You’ll also gradually recover health and gain access to REV Blows.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches in early 2025. Stay tuned for more details until then.
