If it weren’t enough that F-Zero Maximum Velocity was launching on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass this week, F-Zero 99 players have a new update to look forward to. Out on March 29th, it includes new Mirror Tracks for Knight League and the Classic Mini Prix. There’s also the Mirror Grand Prix for those who wish to suffer.

Thankfully, a new Steer Assist feature will guide players’ vehicles through turns. Practice Mode has also been expanded, while the new Timed Challenge offers limited-time rewards. A new Recommended Challenges feature can advise players on what to do next, and new Achievements are also coming. Stay tuned for more details when the update goes live.

The free-to-play multiplayer racer will now allow you to create private lobbies and play with friends.

From new content and modes to limited-time events, F-Zero 99 has kept up a decent cadence of post-launch updates since it became available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers last September, and the free-to-play multiplayer racer has now received another update that adds a notable new feature.

Nintendo has confirmed that F-Zero 99’s latest update has added private lobbies, which means players now have the ability to play with friends privately rather than having to dive into races with randomly matched online players.

“Enjoy this new way to play with friends, and look out for the appearance of Secret Tracks!” Nintendo wrote on Twitter.

Since its launch in September, F-Zero 99 has also added a number of new courses for players to race on, while in November, the game also added a Classic Mode, which changes the ruleset and focuses on 20-player races similar to the original SNES F-Zero game.

F-Zero 99 is available on Nintendo Switch, exclusively via Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions.

All five Knight League tracks are blanketed in snow, while Boost colors and Pilot Card customization options are available as rewards.

A new update is out for Nintendo’s F-Zero 99, ringing in the holidays with the limited-time Frozen Knight League. It takes courses like Mute City 1, Big Blue, Sand Ocean, Death Wind 1 and Silence and covers them in snow. While the event is active, regular versions of the tracks and the Knight League Grand Prix are unavailable, though still playable in Training and Practice.

Other new features include Boost colors for machines and backdrops, badges and borders for the Pilot Card. You can only get these during the Frozen Knight League event, with specific conditions and progress available in the main menu by pressing R. The update also fixes an issue from Ver. 1.0.2, which caused a certain badge to be unobtainable.

Check out the full patch notes below. F-Zero 99 is available on Nintendo Switch for subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online, which costs $19.99 yearly. It recently received a Classic Mode, which is more in line with the SNES classic. Head here for more details.

Ver. 1.1.5 Update Notes

New Additions

Added Frozen Knight League, a limited-time Knight League where snow falls. All courses that are regularly included in the Knight League (MUTE CITY I, BIG BLUE, SAND OCEAN, DEATH WIND I, and SILENCE) will be blanketed in snow.
– The Frozen Knight League event will be held for a limited time only. You can see how much time is remaining in the event by pressing the R Button on the main menu.
– Regular Knight League tracks and Knight League Grand Prix cannot be played when the Frozen Knight League event is being held（except for training and practice modes).

Added Boost colors to be used for machine customization as well as backdrops, badges and borders to be used for Pilot Card customization. These can be unlocked when certain conditions are met.
– The customization items added for this update can only be obtained during the time when the Frozen Knight League event is live.
– You can check specified conditions and progress for each item by pressing the R Button on the main menu.
– You can perform customization by selecting WORKSHOP on the main menu, and then selecting MACHINES and PILOT CARDS.

Other Fixes

Fixed an issue that was occurring even after application of the Ver. 1.0.2 update where a specific badge could not be obtained even though conditions had been met. That save data will be fixed and the badge can now be obtained.

Fixed issues to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.

Presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the mode only has 20 players with Skyway and the Spin Attack removed and turbo boost being single-use.

After announcing that F-Zero 99 would receive Classic Mode in Japan, Nintendo of America has confirmed it to be available to all Nintendo Switch Online members starting today. Unlike the current mode with 99 players, Classic focuses on 20 in keeping with the original F-Zero.

As a result, turbo boost can only be used once every lap and knocking players off won’t increase your Power Meter. Skyway and the Spin Attack are also not available. Classic also has a 4:3 aspect ratio for that authentic retro feel. Another new feature with this update is Lucky Ranks, where playing five races and matching the Mystery Rank unlocks rewards like Pilot Card backdrops, bonus tickets and more.

There are even more new features on the way, so stay tuned for more details in the coming months. F-Zero 99 is available on Nintendo Switch, exclusively on Nintendo Switch Online. The latter costs $19.99 yearly for individuals and $34.99 for families.

Though still multiplayer, Classic Mode will see players participating in 20-player races with rules matching the original SNES title.

F-Zero fans have been starved for another glimpse of the futuristic racing franchise for years on end, so the launch of free-to-play battle royale racer F-Zero 99 in September came as welcome respite for them. Since its launch, Nintendo has also expanded the game with some new content offerings, and will be doing so once again imminently.

The company has announced on its official Japanese website that it will be releasing update 1.1.0 for F-Zero 99 tomorrow, on November 29, to add a new Classic Mode to the game. Unlike the 99-player battle royale mode that serves as the game’s main attraction, Classic Mode will instead focus on 20-player online races, with rules similar to the original F-Zero game for SNES.

That means your turbo boost will revert to being single-use, earned upon the completion of each lap, while the Skyway track and the spin attack move will also be removed. Meanwhile, knocking players off the track also won’t result in Power Meter increases. Nintendo has also confirmed that unlike the main mode, Classic Mode will run at an aspect ratio of 4:3.

Update 1.1.0 will also bring Lucky Cards, which will record your cars and standings for the last five races. At the end of those five races, if your recorded data matches with the number and car on the back of your Lucky Card, you’ll earn bonus tickets, experience points, and additional rewards.

F-Zero 99 is available on Nintendo Switch as a free-to-play title for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

Nintendo’s F-Zero 99, a free-to-play battle royale version of the SNES classic, is getting some new content soon. According to Nintendo Japan (translation via DeepL), five new courses will be available on September 29th.

The five courses in question are Mute City 2, Port Town 1, Red Canyon 1, White Land 2 and Death Wind 2. White Land 2 is available in the Queen League, while Death Wind 2 is in the King League.
The racing classic returns as an online battle royale exclusive to NSO subscribers, as up to 99 players compete in a single race.

After multiple rumors, Nintendo finally announced a new F-Zero. Technically it’s F-Zero from the Super NES era, but with an online battle royale twist. F-Zero 99 follows the likes of Tetris 99 and sees 99 players competing in races online. It’s available later today, exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Check out the first trailer below.

As with the original game, you race through futuristic tracks with vehicles called Machines. You have a Power Meter that decreases on taking damage, but you can also consume it for a speed boost. If you can collect various Super Sparks, then the Skyway opens up, allowing you to bypass the competition.

Completing goals unlocks new cosmetics for customizing your Machine. F-Zero 99 also supports the Super NES controller that’s available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for that retro feel. With how Nintendo has supported its 99 titles post-launch, it should be interesting to see what support it has in mind for F-Zero 99.
