First six new games for Xbox Game Pass have been announced.

Microsoft noted earlier that Xbox Game Pass, its subscription-based service for Xbox One that would offer access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles at a time, would add new games on the first day of each month. July is nearly here and the company has announced the six games that will be available.

On July 1st, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get Resident Evil 6, Dead Island: Definitive Edition, Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition, The Flame in the Flood, F1 2015, Bard’s Gold and Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine.

It should be noted that some Xbox Game Pass games would be cycled out each month. Microsoft hasn’t indicated which games will be removed to make room for the above but it did say that Game Pass titles would be up for a long time. Regardless, take advantage of what interests you when July 1st rolls around.

Xbox Game Pass currently costs $10 per month and doesn’t require Xbox Live Gold (except for multiplayer titles that require it).

Does Codemasters take pole position this generation or simply burn out?

Codemasters’ F1 2015 released in July and hasn’t seen a positive reception. Its visuals are a different story however since the console versions have been praised for their graphics while the PC version has suffered from the usual crashes and graphics features. Considering racing simulators like Forza Horizon 2, Project CARS and DriveClub which have been setting new standards for graphics – though they’ve also had their fair share of issues – how does a seasoned developer like Codemasters Birmingham stack up with F1 2015? For that matter, how does the first game on the company’s new EGO Engine 4.0 fare in today’s console climate?

As usual, the console versions see differing resolutions. While the Xbox One version runs at 1080p resolution, it horizontal resolution is not 1920, the PS4 version is running in native 1080p. To be honest, players may not even notice this difference in resolution. However the difference is still there as the game is still being upscaled to 1920 X 1080p by the Xbox One resulting into texture filtering issues. Certain objects might look a tad blurred on the Xbox One compared to its PS4 counterpart. Again, the differences due to this are really subtle.

Xbox One left, PC right:

F1 2015 targets 60 frames per second though it’s not locked. Among the console versions, it’s the Sony’s machines that comes close to maintaining that vision, hovering close to 60 FPS but is in no way a locked experience. The Xbox One version hovers around the high 40s to 50s. Unfortunately, both versions suffer from screen tearing, with the Xbox One suffering a bit more.

For all the resolution differences, all three versions of the game have roughly the same image quality. Chalk it up to the game’s soft aesthetic but it is what it is. Other similarities include physics and alpha effects. The game also suffers from flickering issues at times. AI controlled cards may flicker at times, cut scenes showcasing celebration has flickering issues dithering the experience further. Fortunately, the Xbox One and PS4 versions don’t suffer from this but it’s blatantly obvious on PC.

Given that this is a current gen exclusive game, one would have expected Codemasters to utilize the available hardware, however it seems that they have used low resolution assets in some places in order to minimize performance strain.

Chromatic aberration is a great addition to the visual experience these days but its implementation is disappointing. Unfortunately, the trend continues with F1 2015. It’s just another one of those cases in this console generation where just because a game can have it doesn’t mean it should have it.

For anti-aliasing on consoles, Codemasters opted for SMAA which is decent solution and is less resource intensive compared to MSAA. This ensures that car body, characters and stadiums have little aliasing and rough edges.

PS4 left, PC right:

Screen space ambient occlusion is also present on consoles and both consoles utilize 8x anisotropic filtering. As for the PC version of the game, it’s apparent that F1 2015 is a heavily GPU bound title. Its graphical options are fairly diverse and include Smoke Shadows, Advanced Smoke Shadows, Crowd quality, Skidmarks, Skidmarks Blending, Ambient Occlusion, Particles, Ground Cover, etc. That’s along with the usual Lighting Quality, Vehicle Quality, Weather Effects and whatnot. To fully achieve a 1080p resolution on Ultra settings and enjoy 60 frames per second constantly, you’ll need a powerful GPU.

Despite changes to the lighting system and some effects being nerfed, the PC version is easily the best from a graphical and performance stand-point. Along with more stable frame rates that don’t suffer from screen tearing, you can choose to reduce some of the more distracting post-processing effects. Shadow quality is best on the PC version and it supports up to 16x anisotropic filtering, though it’s a little odd to note variations in the filtering for some texture surfaces as on consoles.

On testing F1 2015 for PC, using an Intel Core i7-5960X with 16 GB of RAM and running the game on Ultra settings at 1920×1080 resolution (SMAA + TAA enabled), we saw the following frame rate scores:

Nvidia GTX 980Ti – 98 FPS

Nvidia GTX 980 – 82 FPS

AMD R9 290X – 68 FPS

Nvidia GTX 770 – 41 FPS

AMD HD 7950 – 39 FPS

In conclusion, the PC version of F1 2015 is easily recommendable. It features better frame rate performance and a wider range of graphical options overall. As for consoles, the PS4 version wins out due to its native 1080p resolution, more stable frame rate and lack of excessive tearing like the Xbox One version.

Note: Performance was carried by Bill Smith.

Where the hardcore racing sim fans meet. Newbies and people with an aversion to glitches, solo play and nonexistent modes need not apply.

After a yearlong pit stop, Codemasters is back with F1 2015, the latest entry in their ongoing bid for racing simulation supremacy. How it stacks up depends on your interpretation of broadcast quality visuals overshadowing the plethora of many issues the game has.

In terns of F1 games, the driving itself is probably the best it’s ever been. Historically, previous games in the series have been rather forgiving in terms of handling; however, this year’s cars seem to accurately reflect the nature of the F1 experience.

Battling for position is more accurate than ever before, as you have to constantly manage your acceleration and tire wear, whether in sunny weather or rain soaked deluges.

The AI cars are quite lifelike as well, capable of defending and overtaking in intelligent ways, as well as aggressive movements that force you to avoid collisions. This aspect of realism doesn’t just end with the other drivers either, as the race engineer will literally talk your ear off with interesting information about the track, and your overall strategy, through practice sessions and the eventual race itself.

"Historically, previous games in the series have been rather forgiving in terms of handling; however, this year’s cars seem to accurately reflect the nature of the F1 experience."

While, the quick race mode lets you hop into any track and give a full race a shot, or simply enjoy a short three lap cruise around the track, the majority of the game’s racing action takes place in Championship Mode.

In this mode, you take control of your favorite F1 driver and race a full seasons, with customizable practice and qualifying lengths. One interesting aspect of the game is that it also comes with all of the drivers and tracks from last year’s season, so in essence, going back in time is as easy as accessing the options menu.

There is also a Pro Seasons mode, which thrusts you literally into a expert level racing experience with full race weekends, with realistic event lengths. Suffice it to say that it’s primarily to satisfy the hardcore F1 enthusiasts out there.

Unlike previous entries in the series, there is no Career mode this time around, so if you’re hoping to create your own driver, you’re probably running on exhaust fumes. Also, there is no co op to speak of, as in previous games, you could play locally via split screen. There is a multiplayer option to play with friends in individual races, though (not that it works all that well, or at all, actually.)

While the game sports some nice visuals at times, some graphical glitches really bring the realism to a grinding halt. Vanishing wheels and other graphical glitches serve to constantly remind you that at the end of the day, you are playing a game.

"Vanishing wheels and other graphical glitches serve to constantly remind you that at the end of the day, you are playing a game."

In game crashes may be one of the highlights of the visual arena, boasting spectacular effects, however car damage is totally inconsistent and almost seemingly random, as if you ram into another car from behind, your front wing will either be unaffected at all, or shatter into a million pieces.

F1 2015 is a strange hybrid of the workable and the worthless. Visual splendor meets glitches in some graphical areas. Feature rich previous incarnations in the series seem to warrant their inclusion here, yet this game is painfully devoid of them, like a lack of modes, customization or any kind of working multiplayer model.

Where F1 shines is when you’re careening around the track, while changing your strategy to compensate for the rain soaked asphalt that’s suddenly eating up your normal tires, and then switching to wet weather tires just as the track dries off says a lot about the changing conditions in the game and the need to adjust your tactics in the fly to come out ahead.

The game also features voice commands, however, you’re pretty much stuck using stock phrases such as “fuel target” or “driver behind”, rather than the obviously more useful ability to ask who’s in third place or how far ahead a particular driver might be.

One could make the argument that many of the incomplete or missing features set the stage for a new foundation, of sorts, in the world of F1 racing games that Codemasters hopes to build upon in the future with subsequent entries in the series. However, this does nothing to address the overall unfinished nature of this game.

"Feature rich previous incarnations in the series seem to warrant their inclusion here, yet this game is painfully devoid of them, like a lack of modes, customization or any kind of working multiplayer model."

Perhaps the ultimate legacy of F1 2015 lies simply in what could have been. In a perfect world, it could have been given the checkered flag and ushered into the hall of some of racing’s greatest sims ever. It could have been praised for its ability to be almost infinitely adjustable, in terms of difficulty, and still remain challenging. It could have even been celebrated as an authentic reproduction of a million dollar motorsport. Sadly, F1 2015 could have been any or all of these things, but ends up as a tragic case of “what is” instead.

Barren features, broken multiplayer and graphical glitches hammer the final nail in the tire however, in spite of the broadcast quality visual effects, strategic racing, and tight, responsive, but challenging car handling. Do yourself a favor and let this one stay in fifth gear for this lap around the track.

A complete guide for F1 2015.

Using this guide for F1 2015, you will be able to unlock each and every trophy in the game. Furthermore we have also provided a good bunch of tips and tricks to get you started with the game. F1 2015 is now available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game is developed by Codemasters Birmingham and published by Codemasters.

Miscellaneous Tips and Tricks:

F1 2015 features an advanced AI system according to the developers. They are aggressive and will take every opportunity to overtake so even if you are successful in overtaking them, don’t be surprised if they are on your tail all the time. Another point to take of note of is that F1 games differ from the likes of Forza, DriveClub and Gran Turismo. F1 games requires a lot of patience and the learning curve for new players could be quite an undertaking since there are specific race rules for tires, flags etc unlike other racing games out there. So be patient if you are new to F1.

The game features communication with your Pit crew but doing it could be quite difficult if you are passing a chicane or overtaking someone. So your best bet is to keep the communication limited to straight lines or when you are on the finishing/starting line.

During championship mode, Qualifying is of utmost importance. So try and perform your level best but make sure you are maintaining your tires. If you push them too hard than your race strategy could get affected. Listen to your car. If you hear your tires squealing, it probably means that you are pushing them too hard so try and ease off. If your engine is roaring at full throttle except on straights, try and ease off your accelerator pedals. All of this seems quite an overwhelming thing to do in the heat of the moment, but during long races it will help you maintain the engine and tire’s stability.

And finally, take your time. A race can’t be won in the first corner, but can be lost.

Achievements and Trophy Guide:

F1 2015 features a rather easy trophy and achievement list. Honestly, for a veteran player it won’t take too long to platinum this list. Regardless, we have a complete guide and tips on how you can unlock each and every trophy and achievement in F1 2015.

One Aim
Meet or exceed a race objective given to you from the team in Championship Season. Simply finish in a position better than what is expected by your team.

Pole Trophy
Achieve the most poles within a Championship Season. This is dependent on your skill and it may take multiple seasons to achieve this since you would need a better team to unlock this trophy/achievement. If this is too hard for you, try lowering the difficulty.

Champion
Win the Drivers’ Championship in Championship Season on any difficulty. This is straightforward. You need to win a single season to unlock this bad boy.

Construction Time
Win the Constructors’ Championship in Championship Season on any difficulty. You will most likely unlock this trophy when you get into a better team with a competitive team mate.

Elementary, My Dear Watson
Win the race from 22nd place on the grid in the 2014 Championship Season. Quite possible, provided you are in a good car and have excellent driving skills OR have tone down the difficulty. This will allow you to over take AI cars easily.

Master and Commander
Get 14 wins in a single Championship Season to beat Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 wins. This is pretty much self explanatory.

Super Monaco
Drive a total of 78 laps at Monaco in Pro Season mode. The circuit in Monaco is one of the demanding tracks in the F1 calendar with tons of chicanes, slow corners and short and fast straights. This is certainly not an easy one to unlock.

Hard Times
Complete a race in Pro Season mode. The right car along with the right driving skills will make this apparently hard trophy damn easy to unlock.

Easier than Expected?
You need to be placed in the top 16 in qualifying in Pro Season mode 5 times.

Boiling Point
You need to accumulate 100 points in an online championship to unlock this trophy and achievement.

Online Winner
As the name indicates, the player needs to win an online race to unlock this achievement.

Just the Beginning
Players would need to complete an online race in the Beginner Hopper.

God of War 3: Remastered enters the charts at ninth place.

The power of EA’s golf games can’t be underestimated, as evidenced by Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour debuting at the top position in the UK according to the latest charts from Gfk Chart-Track.

Codemasters’ F1 2015 also continues to do very well spending its second week at second place with Batman: Arkham Knight dropping down to third place followed by LEGO Jurassic World. Grand Theft Auto 5 is still going strong at fifth place while Destiny surprisingly moved up several places in the sales charts. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in seventh followed by The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited which released last month for consoles.

Interestingly, Sony’s God of War 3: Remastered entered the sales charts at ninth place. Granted, it is a remaster of a 2010 game but we kind of expected slightly better results than that. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt rounded out the top 10 for this week and has recently received patch 1.07 for all platforms (with mixed results).

Codemasters’ F1 2015 has burst on to the scene in the United Kingdom, debuting as the top selling game across all platforms according to the latest Gfk Chart-Track sales charts. Sales were up by 367 percent compared to the year before and helped the racing simulator dethrone the previously reigning number one, Batman: Arkham Knight.

The open world action adventure title, which sees its first DLC pack Batgirl: A Matter of Family releasing tomorrow, dropped to second place followed by LEGO Jurassic World. The Elder Scrolls Online meanwhile dropped to fourth place with Grand Theft Auto 5 in fifth. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still in the top ten despite approaching its second month at retail while Minecraft: Xbox Edition and PlayStation Edition are in seventh and eighth respectively.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in ninth place followed by Destiny in tenth. There were no other new releases lately which could explain usual players still hanging around. Stay tuned for more information on UK sales in the coming weeks.

I got a need for speed...

F1 2015, the first game targeted for the Xbox One and PS4 spec being developed by British developers Codemasters, is almost here, and ahead of the game’s launch this summer, we get this new TV spot that shows us just what the game looks like, and how the racing in the game will be like. Which, as for the latter, come on man, it’s an F1 game, it’s not going to be a paradigm shift.

Still, just seeing the graphics should prove to be a selling point for this game when it launches later this year, since this is the first game based on the license that will be available for current generation systems. That, combined with the sheer depth of detail and authenticity that this game is promising to offer, should be enough for fans of the sport to give this one a look.

F1 2015 launches July 21 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

It looks mostly good, but there are still a few rough edges.

Codemasters finally makes the transition to the new consoles this summer, with the release of F1 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. To leverage the extra power, Codemasters developed an all new engine to deliver greater visuals for the game; today, they released a new set of screenshots to show off what their new game and engine look like, and I have to say, barring a few rough elements (the pitstop screenshot in particular looks like it is something out of an early Xbox 360 game), it all seems to be coming together rather well.

F1 2015 follows last year’s F1 game, which was released in Fall, as the final game that Codemasters released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. That game as also released on PC, and fans got the promise of a title coming for the new generation consoles this year. It appears that that extra time has been put to good use.

F1 2015 will launch in July. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.
