Note that the game library may vary by country. More titles will be announced before the service’s launch in September. New games will be added two to three times yearly, though how many at any given time is unknown. Those currently subscribed to Xbox Live Gold will automatically switch to the new plan with no change in pricing.

Games with Gold officially ends on September 1st. Any Xbox One games redeemed through it are still accessible if you subscribe to Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox 360 titles obtained through the same will remain in your library, even without a subscription.  Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Now, more Xbox first party games have received the “Steam Deck Verified” tag, which denotes the highest level of compatibility for a game on the device. As announced in an update published on Steam, this new batch includes Fable Anniversary, Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, Killer Instinct, Kalimba, Halo: Spartan Strike, and Rush: A Disney–Pixar Adventure.

Meanwhile, a handful of new games have also been given the “Playable” tag, which, as you may have guessed, means that though these games are playable on the Steam Deck, they haven’t been fully optimized for the device. The new batch of Playable games includes Gears Tactics, Minecraft Dungeons, Deadlight, and Halo: Spartan Assault.

Microsoft’s been announcing new batches of games at a steady clip until now, so hopefully it won’t be long before more games join the list. Stay tuned for future updates.

Microsoft has announced the last few titles coming to Xbox Game Pass for April. It kicks off with MLB The Show 21, available now for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and the cloud. On April 22nd, co-op title Phogs! comes to PC subscribers. Co-op dinosaur shooter Second Extinction is out on April 28th for console, PC and the cloud, albeit as part of Xbox Game Preview.

The title is still in early access so Game Pass provides a nice way to see if it’s up your alley. Next up is Destroy All Humans! on April 29th, launching for consoles, PC and the cloud. As a remake of the original, it sees Crypto-137 harvesting humans and taking down armies with all kinds of alien weapons and abilities.

Fable 3 and Fable Anniversary will be available to play via the cloud on April 30th. On the same day, several titles will be leaving Xbox Game Pass. The titles and their platforms in question are:

After Xbox Live Gold subscribers discovered that certain titles were free in April, Microsoft has officially announced its free Games With Gold lineup for April 2020. And yes, it indeed includes Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS 2 and Lionhead Studios’ Fable Anniversary. Available for Xbox One and Xbox 360 respectively, each title will be available throughout the month.

Other games include the Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle for Xbox One. Developed by Seaven Studio, it includes the first and second games in the RPG/board game/strategy series. You can claim it from April 16th to May 15th.

For Xbox 360 players, there’s also Toybox Turbos, a tabletop racing title from Codemasters. This will be available from April 16th to 30th. Thanks to backwards compatibility, Xbox One owners can access all four titles when they go live. For those looking for something more high-profile, it might be worth checking out Xbox Game Pass for console which adds NieR: Automata Become as Gods Edition on April 2nd.

Microsoft has yet to reveal what next month’s free Games With Gold will be for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. However, it seems that two of April’s offerings have already been confirmed. As per Wario 64 on Twitter, if you head to the store listings for Project CARS 2 and Fable Anniversary, they can be downloaded for free by those with Xbox Live Gold memberships.

Project CARS 2 is only the standard edition for Xbox One and not the Deluxe Edition which includes all of the paid DLC. As one of the better realistic racing sims out there, it might still be worth checking out. Fable Anniversary is for the Xbox 360 and returns to Lionhead Studios’ first game with graphical improvements, revamps and other changes.

Though an announcement has yet to be made, it wouldn’t be strange for Microsoft to release a trailer later today. Games With Gold usually offers four games each month so we’ll likely learn about the other titles later today. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

One of the coolest things Microsoft is doing with the Xbox One X is remastering and enhancing old Xbox 360 games for Xbox One X compatibility- all free of charge. We already have some good Xbox 360 games, such as Oblivion, that have benefitted from this program- and now we know the next batch of games that will be getting One X enhancements.

On Xbox Wire, Microsoft announced that the original Crackdown would be one of the games that would be getting Xbox One X enhancements- presumably, this is to prep up players ahead of the impending launch of Crackdown 3 later this year (I hope). Fable Anniversary, the Xbox 360 remaster of the original Fable, will be another- which should serve as a primer for Fable fans, especially if news about the upcoming Fable 4 is real.

The true crown jewel of this batch, however, will be The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The game released on Xbox 360 as a console exclusive back in 2012- now, Xbox players can play it with full Xbox One X enhancements. Which is absolutely fantastic, and as good a reason as any for players to visit Geralt’s second major gaming adventure.

This brings the total number of Xbox 360 games enhanced for Xbox One X to 11- hopefully, Microsoft continues to add to that number in the future, too.

It may be a previous gen remake based on an RPG released two generations but Microsoft has announced that Lionhead Studios’ Fable Anniversary will be releasing for PC via Steam on September 12th. The game will be discounted by 20 percent, reducing the $35 asking price to $28 if you pre-order now. And you should do so now – the offer is valid for a limited time only.

Fable Anniversary released on the Xbox 360 earlier this year in February and offered an update of the graphics and audio. The visuals were now in HD and the Lost Chapters had been bundled along with a new Heroic difficulty. The game met with average reviews on the Xbox 360, despite the original release receiving a fair amount of critical acclaim. The game may look better but this is still the same combat and mechanics from 2004.

EA Sports’ FIFA 14 saw a rare defeat when Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition debuted in the UK, but is now on top again in this week’s UKIE Game Charts, courtesy Gfk Chart Track. This is despite the fact that sales are down 22 percent from the previous week.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has meanwhile fallen to fourth place with sales down by 75 percent. The popularity of the original game, released in March 2013, was enough for it to stay in the top 10 for months at time. Will the same be true for the HD remake?

Call of Duty: Ghosts is second place as usual while Fable Anniversary debuted this week at third. LEGO Marvel Superheroes reigns supreme at fourth place while GTA 5 maintains its spot in fifth. Perhaps the second biggest change is that Battlefield 4, which has always been in the top 5, is now at seventh place.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition comes in at eighth while Killzone: Shadow Fall is ninth and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is at tenth. Thoughts?

Fable developer Lionhead Studios hasn’t really been creating anything else for the past, oh, decade or so. Starting from the first game all the way up to Fable Anniversary and Fable Legends, the studio has finally confirmed that it is working on non-Fable projects. This follows reports of the studio developing an “unannounced AAA title” separate from Fable Legends.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Lionhead Studios head John Needham stated that the studio is still “primarily” focused on Fable but that “we’re working on other games, too.”

“We’re working on other different sorts of games as well that we’re not talking about right now and won’t be Fable-esque.”

Considering that the studio developed the excellent Black & White franchise before choosing to focus exclusively on Fable through the years, we can only hope that that series returns at some point. What do you think these “different sorts of games” could be? Let us know below.
