The first month of 2020 is already almost over. It’s hard to fathom how quickly time can slip by, isn’t it? One more month down does at least mean that multiple different games are going up on the zillion or so subscription services we now all have to chose from. Xbox Live Gold is a sort of original in that field, and today we got a look at the games we can download free of charge next month thanks to that subscription.

On the Xbox One side of things, we get the detective RPG based on the cosmic horrors of H.P. Lovecraft with Call of Cthulhu. It will be available February 15th-March 15th. TT Isle of Man will race beside it throughout the entire month. The other games will be Fable Heroes on the Xbox 360, and we’re going way old school with the original Star Wars Battlefront on Xbox on February 16th-29th. Talk about a blast from the past.

The February Games with Gold will begin being available at the beginning of the month. All games will be playable on the Xbox One.

However, they have failed quite miserably. While the new look is certainly charming and ill keep you intrigued, it’s not enough to keep you coming back to this less than ordinary brawler.

There’s a lot wrong with Fable Heroes. First off, the combat is dull and repetitive. All you have to do is mash some buttons mindlessly, and each level will be finished in about 5 minutes (each, of course). There’s hardly any challenge here, and with the game world being linear and unimaginative, you can literally complete the entire game without any semblance of a challenge.

The bosses do pose some challenge, to be honest. They’re each about as long as it takes to get to them through their respective levels, and their health meters are considerably decent. They do get on your nerves sometime, as having a huge health meter doesn’t necessarily mean being sizeable opponents, but I personally enjopyed the boss battles (at least initially).

The mini-games in Fable Heroes are also ridiculous, and they feel a bit too old school, right to the point of feeling redundant. They feel unneeded and greatly hinder the game’s pace (or the little that it does have).

Every other fundamental feature of the game is also very clunky and poorly executed. Right from the characters and their sluggish movement and the currency system of the game to the crappy and useless updates and lack of veriety, the game disappoints continuously.

I must, however, admit that the game looks very good, and its new visual style is very appealing to the eye. The cel shaded look has a certain charm to it, and even if it fails to redeem all the horrible aspects of the game, it’s worth mentioning and appreciating.

Ultimately, Fibble Heroes is a disappointment. That’s not to say any of us expected much from this game anyway, but it’s definitely a blemish on the Fable franchise name, and you should stay away from this game at all costs, no matter what your level of love for this series and developer is.

The list of achievements for the upcoming Fable: Heroes, has been leaked online by X360A. And according to this leak, Fable: Heroes will be one o the first Xbox Live games to take full use of the 400 Gamerscore cap for downloadable titles.

• One Down – Buy all abilities on a single tile. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board. (5)

• Puppet Beats Chicken – Complete the Chicken Bomb Mini-Game without getting hurt. This unlocks a tile on the Inner Board. (10)

• Fast & Furious – Complete the Mine Cart Mini-Game in under 13 seconds. This unlocks a tile on the Inner Board. (5)

• World Champion – Achieve a Gold Medal in every level. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board. (20)

• Heroes of Millfields – Complete Millfields in the world of Albion. (10)

Microsoft have announced “Arcade Next” for Xbox Live beginning 18th April.

A new downloadable title will launch on Xbox LiveArcade from Microsoft Studios every Wednesday, through to 9th May.

Also, starting in April, all new Xbox LIVE Arcade games will include up to 400 Gamerscore, with up to 30 Achievements available to unlock.

We have a ton of screenshots for you courtesy of a nice mix up by Xbox.com. It wasn’t supposed to be up but hey – now you can finally see what this game is about. It’s being developed by Lionhead, and is nothing like the previous Fable games.

Fable Heroes is a fresh spin on the beloved Fable franchise in which up to 4 players play both cooperatively and competitively in this hack-and-slash adventure. Work together as heroes of Albion to defeat familiar foes and new enemies while collecting as many gold coins as possible to unlock upgrades, characters, and items in both this game and Fable: The Journey for Kinect for Xbox 360.

That makes it two Fable games this year. Check out the screenshots below.
