True to the recent leak, starting October 3rd and until November 6th, PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can claim The Callisto Protocol, Farming Simulator 22, and Weird West for free. Of course, these will also be available for Extra and Premium subscribers.

The Callisto Protocol is playable on both PS4 and PS5 and serves as a new sci-fi survival horror from the creator of Dead Space. It sees Jacob Lee trying to escape Black Iron Prison as its inhabitants morph into horrifying creatures. Despite its gorgeous visuals, the gameplay and story received criticism – check out our review here for more details.

Farming Simulator 22 is the 2021 iteration of Giants Software’s long-running farming franchise (superior to the horrid Farming Simulator 23). Weird West is an action RPG from WolfEye Studios with multiple playable characters and immersive sim elements, led by Dishonored co-creator Raphaël Colantonio. Both titles are also playable on PS4 and PS5.

According to the leaker, The Callisto Protocol, Striking Distance Studios and Krafto’s survival horror title, will be free for PS Plus subscribers in October. Giants Software’s Farming Simulator 22 will be another free offering. What the third free game will be remains to be seen.

Of course, this being the lowest PlayStation Plus tier, subscribers of PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Premium will also be able to claim Essential’s free offerings.

The leaker in question here has a more or less spotless record when it comes to PlayStation Plus-related leaks in particular, so it’s safe to assume that the two aforementioned games will indeed be coming to PS Plus Extra soon. Sony will be officially announcing the lineup in a few days, so stay tuned for that.

Some of the games on offer are already available, while others will be made available throughout the rest of the month.

Those that are already available are Her Story (PC), Jurassic World Evolution 2 (cloud, console, and PC),  Little Witch in the Woods (console and PC, part of Xbox Game Preview Program), Skate (Cloud, through EA Play), and Umurangi Generation Special Edition (cloud, console, and PC).

Games that are yet to be added include Farming Simulator 22 (May 19 – cloud, console, and PC), Vampire Survivors (May 19 – PC), Floppy Knights (May 24- cloud, console, and PC), Hardspace: Shipbreaker (May 24 – PC), Sniper Elite 5 (May 26 – PC, console), Cricket 22 (May 27 – PC), and Pacman: Museum+ (May 24- cloud, console, and PC).

The voting happened alongside the annual Steam Winter Sale, and for this year fans made sure that Capcom’s Resident Evil Village won the Game of the Year, while prominent games like Arkane Lyon’s Deathloop and Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 took the the winning positions in their respective categories.

The criteria for getting selected for The Steam Awards every year is different from the usual game awards. The selection process for nomination starts from Steam Autumn Sales, and players get to choose their choice of the game by voting for it. Even though newer games get favored a little bit higher, older games are also eligible for the nominations in certain categories and some of the winners reflect the same.

The Labor of Love category, for instance, which shows support to the games still getting worked on after release went to Terraria. Apart from that, the bulk of winners for this year were mostly games that came out in 2021. You can check the whole list of winners down below.

Case in point is Farming Simulator 22, which released on November 22nd and sold over 1.5 million in its first week, setting a new record for the series. In a recent press release, Giant Software CEO Christian Ammann said, “I’m so proud of the team and the prospering environment it thrives in.”

“Being able to successfully build international structures to transfer an already huge series like Farming Simulator into a self-published brand with new impulses is not to take for granted. The great collaboration with our partners ensured a fantastic launch.” It’s also worth noting that this is the first title that Giants Software has self-published.

Farming Simulator 22 is currently available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia. It features over 400 machines and tools from 100 real brands along with unique farms like France, the US-Midwest and Europe’s Alpine region to choose from. On top of this are features like stone picking, a new character creator and cross-platform multiplayer.
