If you haven’t had your fill of battle royal titles lately, then Vostok Games’ Fear the Wolves is releasing today. Previously in Steam Early Access, the battle royale title will launch with the first week free for all players. From 9 AM PST today till February 12th, the entire game will be available for anyone who wants to try it.

It will also be discounted by 50 percent, so if you like what you see, then there’s a nice deal to be had. Fear the Wolves is a battle royale title, but one that emphasizes a smaller-scale experience. Players are hunted by wolves but must also deal with the anomalies present in Chernobyl and try to survive. Duos is the default mode, but you can also play solo if you wish.

Some of the other interesting features of Fear the Wolves include dynamic weather, which can be voted on before the match. If you fancy clear skies or want a bit of thunder in your matches, cast a vote and see what happens. Check out the launch trailer below for a glimpse of the gameplay.

Vostok Games has announced that it will be launching its battle royale title Fear the Wolves on August 28th for Steam Early Access. Created by veterans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fear the Wolves was delayed from its previous launch date in order to further refine performance and balancing via closed beta. With a Steam Early Access release, Vostok Games will now focus on garnering feedback from a wider audience. The game itself features intriguing mechanics like extraction, radiation, PvE, and weather, on top of the tropes of battle royale.

Regular content updates have been promised, with a new map and mode seemingly on the horizon, along with new mutants, weapons, and items. A full development timeline will also be provided in the coming days. Fear the Wolves is still slated to release fully in 2019 for consoles and PC. If you’re wary of taking the plunge but want to keep an eye on the game nonetheless, especially with so many battle royale titles present and coming, bookmark the Steam page and keep track with its progress here.

Fear The Wolves was first announced back in February of this year, and we event got a glimpse of it in its E3 trailer, which was released last month. Towards the end of June, the game was accepting signups for the PC Beta Test and Vostok Games was set to release the game into Early Access today. However, instead, the closed beta has been extended, and the game will enter Early Access at some point later in the summer.

The reason cited by the developer Vostok Games and publisher Focus Home Interactive was that after listening to the community feedback during the closed beta, they will need more time to improve the game. In a press release, the developer stated, “The positive community feedback encouraged us to delay the release of the Early Access to ensure the well-received core experience isn’t marred by technical issues.” Of course, a minor delay is not a big deal if it helps the game secure a more successful launch to the public.

We’ll just have to wait for more information on when exactly the game will be entering Early Access.

Inspired by the beloved STALKER titles, Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games have high hopes for Fear the Wolves becoming the next Battle Royale game to take the world by storm. The specs for the early access build of the game have now been shared, via the game’s official Steam store page, though over time and with optimization they are subject to change.

If you’re hoping to play, you’re going to need an Intel Core i3-2130, GeForce GTX 650 Ti, or the AMD equivalents with an FX-4100 and Radeon R7 260 with 8GB of RAM at minimum, and for recommended they hope you’ll have a Intel Core i7-3930k and GeForce GTX 970, or the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and Radeon R9 390 with 16GB of RAM behind it. Fear the Wolves recently opened up sign-ups for the PC beta test, following a new trailer shown off at E3 2018. The game is set to have a more naturalistic take on the formula, with a day and night cycle and some mutated creatures populating the map as well as the other players. Fear the Wolves is expected to hit by year end.

Fear The Wolves is an upcoming Post-Apocalyptic Battle Royale game, being developed by Vostok Games and to be published by Focus Home Interactive, and it was announced back in February of this year. We even received a trailer for the game at E3 a couple of weeks ago. Now, signups game’s beta test for PC for the are being accepted.

In the game, players’ goal is to reach the extraction point safely while surviving against 99 other players in a radioactive wasteland. Players will have to scavenge for weapons if they want to survive in this hostile environment where there are also packs of mutant wolves seeking to kill them. Furthermore, players will have to protect themselves against radioactivity by wearing hazard suits and gas masks. These will also allow players to go around and flank other players from areas they can’t access without protection.

Fear The Wolves is set to release this year for the PC and will release next year for the PS4 and Xbox One.

The Battle Royale space is becoming increasingly packed as developer after developer goes after a piece of the Fortnite pie, with the latest on the docket being Fear The Wolves from Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games.

Releasing the E3 trailer today, Fear The Wolves wears it’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. inspiration on its sleeve with it’s foreboding setting and mutated creatures. While the game makes use of Battle Royale tropes like 100 players and a closing arena, the title brings NPC enemies to the fray as well, granting the game its own flavour.

With early access beginning as early as this Summer, Fear the Wolves is said to launch properly on PC sometime this year, with consoles to follow in 2019. Is it any surprise that the success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has spawned imitators and mimics in its wake? We have already had Fortnite, plus the battle royale mode in GTA Online. And now, Focus Home Interactive is throwing its hat in the ring, with Fear the Wolves, a brand new post apocalyptic battle royale game that they announced today.

The game is due to hit PC and consoles later this year- but PC players will get to play it first, thanks to an Early Access release. That said, for now, all versions are due to hit before the end of the year, so there is definitely that to look forward to.

The game will have a dynamic day and night cycle, as well as dynamic weather effects, so there will be more of a naturalistic survival element added to the traditional battle royale proceedings with this one- it will be interesting to see how it is received in the end.
