Arika to handle "improvements, bug fixes, and usability improvements for online matches" and provide "advice on our developed online battle algorithm."

Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 received several new details at the Tekken World Tour Global Finals 2022, including a new trailer showcasing Nina’s return. However, one of the most interesting announcements is that Arika of Street Fighter EX and Fighting EX Layer fame will help with the development.

According to its press release, Arika is contracted to handle “Any update of the Software including improvements, bug fixes, and usability improvements for online matches.” Bandai Namco is still in charge of game balance, though. In addition, the developer is providing “advice on our developed online battle algorithms and game response, as well as undertake production work to improve the user experience.”

The last bit is especially promising since Tekken 8 could support rollback netcode. Though Fighting EX Layer launched in 2018 for PS4 with delay-based netcode, a later update would add it to the platform and PC. Of course, the developer is providing “advice” in this regard, so the implementation in Tekken 8 could end up completely different.

Time will tell, so stay tuned for more updates. Tekken 8 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out details on mechanics like the Heat System here. You can also learn more about the new Special Control Style here.

Arika teases the PC version as releasing in either 2018 or 2019.

Arika’s recent Fighting EX Layer was initially slated to come to Steam, but the developer wanted to finish work on the PS4 version first. With the PS4 version released and having received a few updates, the fighting game is now officially coming to PC with 4K support. A new trailer has been released that teases the game possibly coming in 2018 or 2019.

Fighting EX Layer added two new characters recently, namely Vulcano Rosso and Pullum Purna. Fatal Fury and King of Fighters star Terry Bogard will be coming next. In the meantime, Skullomania recently appeared in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, which is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.

The real question now is, what other PC features can we look forward to when Fighting EX Layer releases for the platform? What other updates could come to the PS4 version in the meantime to further improve the experience? We’ll find out in the coming months. In the meantime, let us know what you’d like to see in the game’s PC launch in your comments below.

Release dates for Vulcano Rosso and Pullum Purna will be announced at EVO 2018.

Street Fighter EX spiritual successor Fighting EX Layer is now available on PlayStation 4, but developer Arika still has post-launch support planned for it. It announced on Twitter that it would be adding two new characters, free of charge – Vulcano Rosso and Pullum Purna. Their release dates will be revealed at EVO 2018, taking place on August 3rd.

Other features that will be coming in the next program update include the option to enter Training Mode after connecting to a match. Arcade Mode is also confirmed, though it may have a different name at launch. Arika is currently planning to release this update by July end.

As for the base game, Fighting EX Layer is currently available only for the PlayStation 4. It sports a 2.5D aesthetic but includes familiar gameplay features like Super Cancels. Perhaps the newest feature for an Arika fighting game is Gougi Boost, which lets players customize a special Gougi deck for use during matches. These grant different bonuses and other special enhancements.

If you’ve played Fighting EX Layer, what are your thoughts on it? Let us know in the comments below.

Light and Standard version prices revealed along with content.

Arika’s spiritual successor to the Street Fighter EX series, Fighting EX Layer, releases on June 28th for PS4. The game will retail in two different editions – the Light version with 12 characters and five Gougi Decks; and the Standard version which contains a thirteenth character and 10 more Gougi Decks.

With the former costing $39.99 and the latter retailing for $59.99, the Standard version is only really appealing for those who want more Gougi Decks. Considering that Light version players receive two more trial decks on a weekly rotation, it’s ultimately up to the player. In addition to this announcement, the game’s website has move lists for all 12 characters. Check them out here.

If you haven’t heard of it, Fighting EX Layer is a 2D fighter which features mechanics like running and Super Cancels. Chain Combos, a Progressive Mode for simplified inputs and an auto-combo system are also included. The Gougi Decks in question are different sets of bonuses that can be provided via the Gougi Boost system.

I liked the old name better.

We’ve heard of Arika’s “Mysterious Fighting Game” for a while now; at last, we know exactly what it is, and what to expect from it. The game, which will be coming to the PS4 exclusively, is called Fighting EX Layer (a far less interesting name than Mysterious Fighting Game, if you ask me, but such is the nature of trying to appeal to the masses).

And that’s not all- you will actually get the chance to play it at the PlayStation Experience this year (if you are attending) on December 9 and 10. But what if you aren’t going to PSX? You’re still covered! A public beta for the game will be held starting December 11- so you can still play the game and see if it is for you then.

There’s also a new trailer for the game, which you can see for yourself below. Fighting EX Layer comes out for the PS4 in 2018.
