Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Keeper, Grounded 2, and the ROG Xbox Ally (which will allegedly receive a release date) make up day one, as previously announced. However, you can also look forward to Cronos: The New Dawn, Hotel Barcelona, Invincible VS, World of Warcraft: Midnight, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Dying Light: The Beast, Starsand Island, PowerWash Simulator 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Outbound, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants.

Day 2 is also just as packed. Previously confirmed titles include The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Overwatch 2, but Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Jurassic World Evolution 3, FragPunk, Mistfall Hunter, At Fate’s End and Age of Empires 4 are also present. Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, My Hero Academia: All’s Justice, Silent Hill f, LEGO Voyagers, and High on Life 2 will also appear. If that wasn’t enough, you can expect to see Silent Hill f and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in action.

Before all this unfolds, Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on August 19th at 11 AM PDT and promises its own stacked lineup. Then there’s Future Games Show on August 20th, featuring Phantom Blade Zero and Little Nightmares 3. Stay tuned for live coverage throughout all this.

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Zero Dawn was already an insane visual benchmark for Guerrilla Games, what with its expansive environments, draw distance, detailed character models, vegetation, effects, you name it. That Forbidden West could look so much better is insane, but that’s not all. It also improves the presentation, with the dialogue exchanges having more intricate animations and expressions. Doing all this and maintaining great performance, whether you’re playing at 4K/30 FPS or 1440/60 FPS, is even more incredible.

God of War: Ragnarok

Sony Santa Monica’s latest God of War: Ragnarok is easily a more than worthy sequel to the stellar original that was released back in 2018, and that statement alone speaks volumes about the game’s quality. The continuation of Kratos and Atreus’ tale through the Norse realms is grand and filled to the brim with a buffet of high-adrenaline moments and spectacular boss fights. The combat and exploration have been polished to an immaculate sheen, which makes God of War: Ragnarok perhaps the best game to play on your shiny new console.

Sony has announced its lineup of titles coming to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium this month, starting from July 19th. Just as the rumors claimed, Final Fantasy 7 Remake (PS4) and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade – which includes Episode INTERmission – will be available for subscribers. They’re joined by Marvel’s Avengers and Stray on PS4 and PS5.

Numerous Assassin’s Creed titles are also coming to the service. Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered, Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry and Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection are all going to be available on PS4. Saints Row 4: Re-Elected and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell on PS4 are also included.

The remaining roster includes Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure, Jumanji The Video Game, Paw Patrol on a Roll! and ReadySet Heroes on PS4 along with Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition for PS5. Classic titles include No Heroes Allowed! and LocoRoco Midnight Carnival on PlayStation Portable.

Interestingly, PlayStation Blog Italy notes that Dino Crisis on PS One and Ridge Racer 2 and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny on PSP will be added to the Classics catalogue as well. It remains to be seen if these will be available for other regions later. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

The scale of Rift Apart’s story stretches across multiple dimensions, some which our heroes traverse in the blink of an eye. When breaking it all down into different planets – the mines on Blizar Prime, the sweeping greenery of Sargasso and the sleekness of Nefarious City on Corson V – there’s a lot to take in. From quirky NPCs and wildlife to Pocket Dimensions, Rift Apart is Insomniac’s biggest platforming adventure and yet, it’s excellently paced – never too slow but also taking time to breathe and establish its characters.

One year later, we’re looking back on the 25 best games released thus far for the PS5. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Hades

Hades is many things. It’s a showcase of Supergiant Games’ deft character writing with a litany of well-written characters based on Greek mythology, each with hundreds of lines and dozens of interactions. It’s an incredible rogue-lite which balances its progression with the story, slowly unraveling more plot details with each escape attempt. And most importantly, it’s a great action game with stellar variety thanks to Boons and weapon upgrades that you want to jump into again and again, especially at 4K/60 FPS on the PS5.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

One of the most acclaimed RPGs in years, Disco Elysium lets you embody a detective in whatever fashion you please. Choose from a variety of skills and select different dialogue, becoming a very effective liar or abusive jerk, and hone ideas with the Thought Cabinet to receive different buffs and traits. The Final Cut adds full voice acting, new Political Vision quests, additional cutscenes and characters, and a new area to explore along with various QoL improvements, improving even more on the base release.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

From the very first reveal, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was something special. The texture work, character models and gorgeous environments, not to mention details like fur and ray traced reflections, looked incredible. But all of this is supported by incredible texture streaming technology, and seamless loading between areas thanks to the console’s SSD. If any title could be compared to a Pixar film in terms of visual fidelity, then Rift Apart may be it.

Horizon Zero Dawn

It may not seem like much now, especially considering how many PS4 and PS5 titles have received the same, but Horizon Zero Dawn’s photo mode was a pleasant surprise back in the day. It allowed for adjusting the field of view, adding dynamic color filters, changing the time of day, and adding and customizing vignettes. A later update would add poses and facial expressions for Aloy, resulting in some rather wholesome shots.
