Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is set to release this Summer after several delays. While the co-op, action RPG gameplay is still intact (with the addition of cross-platform multiplayer), the title is also receiving a “Lite” version. Essentially, the Lite version allows for experiencing the first three dungeons. Cross-play is active for these and it’s possible to join up with full game owners to play in “up to” 13 dungeons. Considering the game is releasing for iOS and Android as well as consoles, it’s a good way to incentivize mobile users to try it before taking plunge.

More details on the Lite version will be provided tomorrow at 12 PM JST in a “Preparation & Review Special” video. It feature game director Ryouma Araki and also serve as an introduction to the game. After announcing the release date for the Japanese version yesterday, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition would release on August 27th for the West as well. An English version of the announcement trailer has also been released. Check it out below.

Several new details have also been revealed on the PlayStation Blog. It was already revealed that players could access higher difficulty dungeon and boss upon clearing the game. But it seems there will be several challenging new dungeons for players to go through. Also, the newly recorded voicelines apply to the inhabitants of the game as a whole.

The Imitate feature, which is being called “Mimic” for the Western release, allows players to take on the appearance of different characters throughout the game. You’ll need Memory Crystals to achieve this though and they can be earned by going to Moogle Houses, completing challenging dungeons and collecting stamps. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will be coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Square Enix hasn’t updated the Western release date for the same but it did announce that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition would release on August 27th for Japan. It will be available for PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. Some new details have also been provided courtesy of PlayStation Blog Japan (translation by Gematsu).

Essentially, players can change their appearance and voice in battles using the new Imitate System. This allows for mimicking a sub-character from the story (though it seemingly only works for battles). You’ll need to collect some items to make it happen though. Square Enix also confirmed that online multiplayer, including cross-platform play, would be supported.

Other new content includes a “high-difficulty” dungeon and boss available after finishing the game once along with new equipment, upgrade items and variations for each race. There will also be “newly recorded” voices for characters. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months, along with a potential Western release date.
