Final Fantasy X, meanwhile, will still get a physical release there.

With Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD both headed to the Nintendo Switch (and Xbox One) in April, Square Enix has shared more information on what we can expect from these releases. Apparently, on the Switch, only Final Fantasy X HD will be available on cartridge, at least in Europe. Final Fantasy X-2 HD will be available only digitally, and will be included as a digital code with the purchase of the package, should you get it at retail, based on their listing on Square Enix’s store for the Switch version of the game

This is actually not that different to how Square handled the release of Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD on the PS Vita. There, too, X HD came on a cartridge, and X-2 was a digital-only release. The difference, of course, is that on the PS Vita, cartridge capacity topped out at 4GB, while on the Switch, that’s the smallest a cartridge can be. Presumably, Square Enix Europe wanted to save costs.

It is unclear whether or not this will also be the case for North America. The North American website does not seem to display this message as of right now, but it might just be a case of it getting updated later, for all we know.

Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD launch on April 16 for Switch and Xbox One. They are available right now for PC, PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

HD HD remaster.

Last year, the PlayStation 2 era classic Final Fantasy X launched remastered in HD for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita; now, just over a year later, Square will be bringing the exemplary remastering to the PlayStation 4 as well, as the Final Fantasy X HD package will be launching on PS4 in May.

The PS4 version will feature Cross Save with the PS3 and PS Vita versions, and will also allow users to switch back to the original soundtrack of the game instead of sticking with the remastered one, if they so wish. It will also obviously feature cleaner visuals as well.

Just like the PS3 and PS Vita packages, the game will come included with Final Fantasy X-2 as well, if anyone actually does care.

Personally, I think Final Fantasy X aged pretty poorly, but I do understand that there are a lot of fans of the game, and they will be happy to play it on their PlayStation 4. So this should be good for them.

Vita release also confirmed for the west.

Square Enix’s long awaited HD refresh of the beloved, PlayStation 2 JRPG classic, Final Fantasy X (and it’s not so beloved sequel, Final Fantasy X-2), will finally be hitting western shores on March 18, 2014. To celebrate the release of the game, Square Enix have also confirmed a collector’s edition (pictured above).

Available exclusively from Square Enix’s online store, the bundle will retail for $80 and include a hardcover artbook that comprises the PlayStation 3 system version of the game, with over 40 pages of imagery from the stunning world of Spira. Alongside five lithographs of iconic artwork and characters, the packaging will also include a Final Fantasy X HD Remaster Original Soundtrack – with more than six hours of music set to the game’s most memorable moments on a Blu-ray Disc.

In addition to the collector’s edition, Square Enix also finally confirmed the Vita version of the game for western release too. It will retail as a 2-in-1 retail pack, and include Final Fantasy X HD on the cartridge, with a download voucher for X-2 HD included as well.

Square Enix delivers.

Earlier there was a rumour where X-2 was also supposed to be included with the main Final Fantasy X HD remaster. Now Square Enix has officially confirmed both the games and they will be heading to the PS3 and PS Vita this year.

We don’t have the official release date but the site has been opened and it is not reachable for some reason. Maybe they are uploading the images because some of them didn’t have full HD versions.

The collection will cost $40 which is the standard price for these HD remasters and based on these screenshots we have Square Enix has done a tremendous effort on these games.

Both these games will contain the international version content which means extra bosses and other content. Both the games will be available separately on the Vita.

Check out some of the screenshots below.

The game that brought us YPR is also receiving the HD treatment.

At first it seemed to be a rumour but a recent scan from Jump Magazine confirms it. Along with the upcoming Final Fantasy X HD releasing on PlayStation Vita, Square Enix will also be releasing Final Fantasy X-2 HD separately. The two games will be collected together for release on the PlayStation 3.

On one hand, it’s quite the deal. If a case couldn’t be made earlier for shipping FFX HD alone for the PS3, one could certainly be made now with the addition of FFX-2 HD. On the other hand, the latter isn’t exactly the most revered game in the franchise. Taking a more light-hearted and raunchy approach, FFX-2 would be the first real sequel that Square Enix would produce for its Final Fantasy line.

Several years later and the trend sadly continues with Final Fantasy XIII. Regardless, Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD, for PS Vita and PS3, are expected to launch sometime this year.

No release date announced yet. Update: Screens added.

Sony have released a new trailer for Final Fantasy X HD for the PS Vita at the event they held in Japan today. The PS Vita has also received a price drop and you can check out all the details about that here.

The trailer shows the CG version of Yuna and the Tidus model has also been reworked. You can check out the screens below.

Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto apologised for the delay and also posed with a picture of the game running on the Vita. The game was revealed in 2011 and it seems like they haven’t started the development on it yet, considering it’s simply inexcusable that it took them two years to assure people that the game is in development.

Dragon’s Crown was also revealed at the event and you can check out the new trailer for that here. Hashimoto has said that people should wait for more information about FFX HD in the future. They sure do love to make people wait, don’t they?

Square Enix is a company full of trolls. The publisher announced an HD remake of Final Fantasy 10 for the PS3 and PS Vita simultaneously in 2011, and since then, all we have gotten is little snippets of news.

We have all been asking Square for more info, and now we’ve finally got an answer- well, a hint of an answer, at any rate.

When a fan asked Square Enix on their European Twitter feed just what was up with Final Fantasy X HD, Square replied as follows: “The world will get answers soon, we promise.”

When another person asked if there was any news on the HD remake for the PS Vita or the PS3, Square tweeted: “Nothing new to report at this time, sorry.”

With SE focusing on Lightning Returns and rebooting Final Fantasy XIV this year, we doubt FF10 HD will be ready soon, but we sure would like to hear some information.

Stay tuned for updates.

Final Fantasy X will soon be receiving an HD makeover for the PS3 and PS Vita, and Square Enix has announced while talking to Famitsu that it’s being developed by their first production house, which is also working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. After the Final Fantasy Advance series, Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Edition and other such remakes and rereleases which were outsourced to other developers, this comes as a bit of a surprise.

Final Fantasy X, however, is not just a HD re-release of the 2001 classic. Square is building the game from the ground up, using the engine that Final Fantasy XIII ran on and using the ‘next generation’ Luminous engine for light and magic effects.

Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase has said earlier that he wanted to keep the game’s development within Square Enix to “ensure that the remake of the game will have the same quality as the original” and that is exactly what is happening.

It’s good to know the game’s in capable hands.

Stay tuned for more info.
