At the Japan Expo 2013 in Paris, Square Enix game direct and producer Yoshinori Kitase announced that the upcoming Final Fantasy X /X-2 Remaster will feature cross-save functionality between the PS3 and PS Vita version of the game.

This means that players will be able to save their game on one platform, and then continue their game on a separate platform. The feature will apply for both games, with Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 releasing together on the PlayStation 3 on one disc but retailing separately for the PlayStation Vita.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster is expected to release later this year, and will include new updated HD graphics. A new 30 minutes episode written by original scenario writer Kazushige Nojima will also be included, which has been revealed to be an audio drama featuring the voice actors from the main cast.

Stay tuned for more updates, including a definitive release date for the HD remake.

Written by the man who decided that Aeris should die (seriously).

Announced via Jump Magazine, Square Enix has revealed that the upcoming HD remaster of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 will feature a brand new 30 minute episode written by game scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

Why is that name important? Because Nojima wrote all the most affecting games in the series, including Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII (where he put forth the idea that one of the two female leads – Tifa and Aeris – should die), Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and even Final Fantasy Versus XIII. He also wrote the Kingdom Hearts games, before leaving Square Enix in 2003, and was responsible for creating the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology and the story of the CG movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

As of now, we’ll have to wait and see what this new episode is about. Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster will be available together for PS3 later this year and separately for the PlayStation Vita.

Final Fantasy X's summoner costume makes a return appearance.

On an episode of Square Enix Presents for E3 2013, director Motomu Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that protagonist Lightning will be able to equip an outfit based on Yuna’s costume from Final Fantasy X in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. If you’ll recall, this was before Yuna went all insane gunslinger and instead stuck with a restrictive priestess robe.

And how would Lightning look in that? Well, fairly typical.

This may not be anything more than fan service, which is fine. Considering that Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster in the coming months for PS3 and PlayStation Vita, with Lightning Returns to follow on February 11th 2014 for North America, it’s understandable to want to put in references to other Final Fantasy games.

Now, if only we could get some indication that this will be the last Final Fantasy XIII game to release, ever. That would be well worth the announcement.
