To "expedite" updates for PC, cross-play has been temporarily disabled, though matchmaking is still available between consoles.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is out later today for all platforms, but it received some backlash during advanced access for its UI, map generation, etc. Before launching worldwide, Firaxis released patch 1.0.1 for PC, the first of several upcoming patches based on feedback.

Some of the more notable bug fixes include Epic and Marathon Age games being shorter than expected and numerous problems with naval combat. If you found your naval units using the wrong Combat Strength Values or not consistently moving to attacked tiles after disposing of enemies, these should be fixed.

Unfortunately, cross-platform play between PC and consoles has been temporarily switched off since Firaxis wants to “expedite” updates for the former. While this won’t affect PC-only and console-only matchmaking, it is another wrinkle for the 4X strategy title’s troubled launch.

Check out the full patch notes below. Civilization 7 will be available today for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Head here for more details on its post-launch roadmap.

1.0.1 Patch 2 – February 10, 2025

Patch Notes

Gameplay

Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck

Fixed an issue causing Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games to be shorter than intended.

City States will now turn into Friendly Independent Powers on Age Transition instead of disappearing completely. They will also now start with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.

Fixed inconsistencies with Naval Combat.

Naval Units will use the correct Combat Strength values when attacking another Naval Unit in all instances.

Naval Units will properly take reciprocal damage after attacking another Naval Unit.

Naval Units will more consistently move into the attacked tile after defeating another Naval Unit.

Completing the final milestone of a Legacy Path no longer adds Age Progress in the Modern Age to ensure you have more time to complete a Victory.

Towns will now switch their focus back to Growing town automatically if they are no longer eligible for their chosen Focus (for example, if their population decreases) until they are eligible again.

Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages. The cost of Future Tech and Future Civic will now increase more when repeated.

Fixed an issue after too many bonuses to Growth where Food needed for the next growth event became negative.

Improvements to Rail Networks aimed at increasing the reliability of Settlements connecting to the Rail Network over water by building Ports. This should apply as long as the Capital either has a Port or is connected by rail to a settlement with a Port.

Made improvements to the Loyalty Crisis in the Antiquity Age, including giving the ability to purchase Villas in towns during this crisis, giving another way to manage the happiness of your settlements.

A note about cross-play multiplayer: To expedite updates to the PC experience, we will sometimes deploy patches to PC at a different cadence than we do on consoles – including today’s Patch 1.0.1. As a result, cross-play between PC players and console players is temporarily disabled. This will have no impact on console players attempting cross-platform play with other console players, nor on PC-to-PC multiplayer.

AI

Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck

AI will now offer high-value Cities less often during Peace Deals.

In Modern, AI will now declare war less often at the start of the age.

In Modern, AI will now consider Ideology more before Declaring War or offering Peace.

Other Leaders now have a decreased desire for war if neither party has an Ideology.

Other Leaders now have an increased desire for war with players of Opposing ideologies.

Other Leaders now have a decreased desire for Peace with players of opposing Ideologies.

Camera

Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck

Fixed an issue on native-resolutions where the camera would focus on the lower end of the map when clicking on the minimap.

UI

Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck

Replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the font used in Civilization VI while we work on additional improvements for future patches.

Fixed an issue where the Settlement menu fails to open when clicking on a non-player’s Settlement Banner in gameplay.

Fixed an issue where yield icons fail to populate on the now available buildings when converting a town to city.

Fixed an issue where some text was cut off on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.

Added a notification for completed Espionage actions, so that you can more easily check the results of their Espionage actions.

City projects no longer appear to be purchasable.

Your current religion is now displayed first in the belief picker tabs.

Fixed an issue where a District’s health bar would remain on-screen after being fully healed.

Fixed an issue where Leaders fail to have a portrait when the relationship has changed during gameplay.

Improved the alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary, when viewing the Overview screen of the Victories Rankings.

Fixed an issue where the background color remains the default color when the user changes it in the Player Customize tab.

Improved the spacing between Civ descriptions, unique units and building icons on loading screen.

Firaxis says it will support the game "for years to come", with several requested fixes on the way in the short-term as well.

Civilization 7 became available for Deluxe and Founder’s Edition owners earlier this week with its advanced access launch, and feedback for the turn-based strategy title has been flowing ever. Of course, developer Firaxis has plans to support the game for years to come, as tends to be the case with Civilization, which means work is already underway on targeted improvements based on feedback from players.

Firaxis has detailed some of those upcoming changes in an update, explaining that it is currently prioritizing three main areas that need changes and fixes. Chief among them is fixing the UI, a “top priority” for the studio. Firaxis says it’s looking to make UI interactions “more intuitive, improving map readability, fixing areas of polish like formatting, and more.”

Multiple community-requested features are also incoming, including hot seat multiplayer, customizable names for cities and religions, Teams and full player counts in multiplayer, more map types, and more. Finally, the third main priority is quality-of-life fixes such as “UI adjustments, ongoing AI balance and improvement, adjustments to diplomacy and crises, plus additional bug fixes.”

Firaxis says work on the next patch is well underway, and it will also share further details (including a development roadmap) on upcoming fixes and changes soon. Meanwhile, Civilization 7 has plenty of additional content in the works, both paid and free, for which the developer also recently shared a roadmap. Check it out through here.

Civilization 7 is available in advanced access for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and launches globally on February 11.

Upcoming paid content will add new civilizations (like Great Britain and Nepal), leaders (like Simón Bolívar and Ada Lovelace), and more.

Civilization 7 is right around the corner, and by all accounts, it’s going to be another packed experience right out the gate. That said, developer Firaxis has plenty more in the pipeline as well and has now shared some details on what the turn-based strategy title’s post-launch support is going to look like.

For starters, as you would expect, Civilization 7 will indeed get paid DLC. Dubbed “Collections”, these paid DLC drops will bring new civilizations, leaders, and Wonders. The first, Crossroads of the World, will release in two waves across March.

The first wave adds two new civilizations, Great Britain and Carthage, and a new leader, Ada Lovelace. Three weeks onward, wave 2 will add another couple of civilizations in the form of Bulgaria and Nepal as well as another leader, Simón Bolívar.

The next paid Collections drop, Right to Rule, will be released sometime in Q2/Q3 (April-September) and adds two new leaders and four new civilizations and natural wonders apiece.

Beyond that, Firaxis and 2K are also promising “improvements elevating [the] game in a wide variety of areas”, as well as plenty of events and challenges. For instance, March has two updates planned that will collectively add new natural wonders (Mount Everest, Bermuda Triangle) and new events.

Civilization 7 is due out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 11. Deluxe and Founders Edition owners will get early access starting February 6. A Day 0 patch will also go live on the same day.

The next title in Firaxis's 4X strategy series is on track for launch on February 11th. It will be available for consoles and PC.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 has officially gone gold. Firaxis announced the same in a new tweet, which means principle development is over. Of course, on top of the game being sent for certification to digital storefronts, the team is likely working on a day-one patch.

Civilization 7 is out on February 11th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Though the core premise still focuses on controlling a real-world civilization and progressing through various eras in 4X fashion, there’s a new Ages system. Matches consist of three Ages – Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern – with progress carrying over from one to the next.

Of course, players can opt to experience a single Age instead of all three in succession. Firaxis has also confirmed cross-play, with up to five players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages while eight players can partake in the Modern Age. The title will also support the DualSense’s haptic feedback on PS5. Stay tuned for updates and check out the PC requirements here.

Crossplay allows up to five players to match together in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, while eight can play in the Modern Age.

New gameplay for Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is now available, showcasing the 4X strategy title on PlayStation 5. The visuals and attention to detail are stunning, especially with the environments and architecture. Check it out below.

However, the accompanying PlayStation Blog article offers more substance on the console version. Firaxis revealed that each platform has separate graphics renderers, thus ensuring the title’s optimization on PS5 and PS4. The UI has also seen some changes with a radial menu that lets you jump to the most frequently used systems.

PS5 players can also leverage the DualSense’s Haptic Feedback, which reacts in numerous situations like starting your turn, taking damage, and declaring war. Even founding a new city results in a “hammer-like thud”, but if it’s too much, you can turn it off.

There’s also cross-platform multiplayer for up to five players in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages and up to eight in the Modern Age. You can play through all three in a match or select a single Age. Head here for more details on the Ages system.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 launches on February 11th, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

2K and Firaxis' 4X strategy game is set to launch for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on February 11 next year.

2K saw far more success with Civilization 6 on the Nintendo Switch than it would have expected, so it’s no surprise that the series’ next instalment is going to be available on the platform day one. At the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, in fact, we got our first look at what Civilization 7 will look like on the Switch.

Though there is an obvious visual downgrade here compared to the game’s other versions, fans of the series’ brand of turn-based 4X strategy gameplay can expect a typically compelling experience. The new gameplay trailer touches on the game’s new Ages system and reimagined leaders, reveals a new leader in the form of Queek Himiko, touches on its online and local multiplayer options, and more. Check out the trailer below.

Civilization 7 will launch on February 11 next year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

With an extensive gameplay showcase, Firaxis has revealed details on some of the biggest changes you can expect in the upcoming Civilization 7.

2K and Firaxis have announced a release date for Civilization 7, and to go along with that, as previously confirmed, they’ve also released an extended gameplay showcase. In addition to revealing Game of Thrones and Star Wars actor Gwendoline Christie as the new narrator in the upcoming 4X strategy title, the showcase also reveals extensive details about some of the biggest gameplay changes players can expect.

One of the core changes in Civilization 7’s central loop is going to be the introduction of a brand-new system of Ages. Players have, of course, seen their empires move through different eras in Civilization titles in the past, but Civilization 7 will see each game comprising of three ages- the Antiquity Age, which is focused on agricultural societies; the Exploration Age, where empires start expanding and reaching out to trade and interact with each other; and the Modern Age, where you’ll see grand technological advancements, some of which will be particularly destructive.

Each Age will come with its own unique attributes and elements, such as resources that are found on the map, technologies and civics that can be researched, units and buildings, and more. Unlike past titles, however, where moving from one era to the other would wipe the slate clean, in Civilization 7, the choices you make in one Age will have an impact on the next Age, which means your empire will dynamically grow through the ages and reflect the different choices you have made as its leader through the ages.

In a nutshell, all of that means that civilizations are now going to change through the Ages. Rather than sticking with the civilization you start with throughout all of the Ages, your civilization will now change from Age to Age. In addition to being able to play through a single game covering all Ages, players will also have the option to play individually in each Age.

On top of introducing Ages, Civilization 7 is also significantly changing how leaders will work. In past titles, civilizations and leaders were always a package deal, determining your policies, what units you would have, the things you’d research, and more.

In Civilization 7, however, leaders and civilizations won’t be tied together, which you can choose whichever civilization you want while playing as any leader of your choosing. Additionally, players will now also be able to customize leaders with attributes earned through gameplay. Check out the showcase below for more details.

Civilization 7 launches on February 11 next year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The latest addition to Firaxis's 4X strategy series looks very familiar, with plenty of building, exploration, and conquering.

Firaxis Games took the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live to reveal the first gameplay for Sid Meier’s Civilization 7. As rumored before the show, it launches on February 11th, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Check it out below.

As with previous titles, you’ll be founding cities, building and expanding them into massive empires. Other civilizations will pursue the same course, so you can work with them or battle it out. Technologies start with spears and shields before quickly advancing to tanks, firearms, and warships.

Of course, you can also engage in more academic and artistic endeavors, including constructing rockets to send into space. How much the gameplay will differ from its predecessors remains to be seen, but thus far, the attention to detail and visual fidelity is something to behold.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 also has a gameplay showcase at 1 PM PDT, offering more than 20 minutes of gameplay. Stay tuned for more details.
