The PlayStation VR2 title retails for £59.99 on the UK PlayStation Store and is out on February 22nd, 2023, for the headset.

Guerrilla Games promised some “more news” for Horizon Call of the Mountain this week, though it didn’t provide further details. Whether this is the announcement in question or not, the PlayStation VR2 title is now available to pre-order, at least on the UK PlayStation Store, for £59.99. Expect pre-orders to go live for other regions shortly.

Horizon Call of the Mountain stars a new character, Ryas, as he ventures across the Carja and Nora lands while investigating a new threat to the Sundom. All the elements of the previous games, like climbing, hunting machines with a bow, and crafting, are included. The difference is that players can explore in a 360-degree area and use the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers for interacting.

New quests, lore, and characters can also be expected, though familiar faces like Aloy will also return. Horizon Call of the Mountain is out on February 22nd, 2023, for PlayStation VR2. It’s one of over 20 launch titles for the headset. Check out the pre-order trailer below, which features scenes from the gameplay reveal trailer.

Developed by Guerrilla Games and Firesprite Games, the VR title will launch alongside the PlayStation VR2 on February 22nd, 2023.

Sony’s next-gen VR headset, the PlayStation VR2, is coming next February and Horizon Call of the Mountain is one of 20 launch titles that will be available. Those seeking more information, take note: Guerrilla Games tweeted that “more news” would be revealed this week.

As for what the news could be, whether it’s new gameplay or details, that remains to be seen. Unlike Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Horizon Call of the Mountain focuses on a new character named Ryas. As a former Shadow Carja, he investigates a new threat against the Sundom, encountering familiar machines like the Thunderjaw.

Of course, Aloy will also appear at some point, but there will be many new characters to interact with. Horizon Call of the Mountain is out on February 22nd, 2023, alongside the PlayStation VR2. A bundle containing the headset and a download code for the title will be available to pre-order later this month for $599.99.

Step into the shoes of former Shadow Carja warrior Ryas, as he heads on a journey to deal with a new threat to the Sundom.

Horizon Call of the Mountain was announced for PSVR2 earlier this year, with Guerrilla and Firesprite Games collaborating on a VR offshoot of the beloved franchise. At the time, we only got a brief glimpse of the game, with very few details on its gameplay and story being revealed, but as promised, Sony showed off a meatier trailer of the VR title during the recent State of Play presentation.

Plenty of first-person combat and climbing got shown off, and sure enough, it looks like those two elements – climbing and combat – are going to be a crucial part of the core gameplay loop here. A pickaxe tool is also shown off, which is used in the trailer to travel down a zipline, though presumably there will be other traversal-related uses for it in the game as well. And of course, we also got several glimpses of some of the machines we’ll be crossing paths with, including a Thunderjaw. Check out the full trailer below.

A PlayStation Blog update also sheds more light on the game’s story. We’ll be playing as Ryas, a former Shadow Carja warrior and a master of climbing and archery, who must “redeem himself by investigating a grave new threat to the Sundom” as he scales mountains and defeats dangerous machines. Expect to meet various new and old characters, including series protagonist Aloy herself.

Meanwhile, there will be several weapons and tools to use, resources to collect to craft additional gear, and more.

Horizon Call of the Mountain doesn’t have a release date or release window yet, so stay tuned for more details on that front.

During the State of Play, Sony also announced that a new update has gone live for Horizon Forbidden West on PS5 and PS4, adding New Game+, an Ultra Hard mode, several new features, new Trophies, and more. Read more on that through here.

The PlayStation VR2 title will receive a "new look" at tomorrow's 30-minute showcase, which kicks off at 3 AM PST/6 PM EST.

Horizon Call of the Mountain will be appearing during tomorrow’s PlayStation State of Play. Sony confirmed this in a new tweet, promising a “new look” at the PlayStation VR2 title. The presentation kicks off at 3 PM PST/6 PM EST.

Developed by Guerrilla Games and Firesprite Studios, Horizon Call of the Mountain features a brand new protagonist. Thus far, we’ve seen the Tallneck make an appearance (as noted in the GIF below) but other Machines have yet to be confirmed. One thing is for sure though – along with old and new characters from the series, Aloy will be present.

Tomorrow’s State of Play focuses on third-party PS5 titles and PlayStation VR2 games. Sony said that its next-gen VR headset would launch with over 20 first-party and third-party titles. A release date has yet to be announced, though analysts believe that it could launch in Q1 2023. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

We take a look at some more upcoming games that will be using Epic's latest and greatest, the Unreal Engine 5.

Epic’s Unreal Engine has always remained at the forefront of rendering techniques, post-processing effects, and other graphical jargon for decades at this point now. And unsurprisingly, its latest iteration Unreal Engine 5 isn’t any different. From Nanite to photogrammetry to Lumen lighting, Unreal Engine 5 is chock-full of cutting-edge graphical features that will undoubtedly provide experiences never before seen in gaming. With the engine now being available to developers, many games are being developed on this technology – and today, we will be looking at a few such examples.

The Next Witcher Game

CDPR will be shifting from its in-house REDEngine to Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 for the next entry in The Witcher franchise. While details on the game remain almost non-existent for now, we do know that the developer switched engines for the vast array of tools available in Unreal Engine 5 that should help in crafting a lifelike open world. And with the numerous streaming and pop-in issues seen in the studio’s latest release Cyberpunk 2077, we think this shift might just be for the best.

Former senior world designer on Horizon Forbidden West Chris James has high praise for the recently-announced VR-exclusive Horizon title.

After a long silence on what their plans were in the VR space, recently, Sony recently officially announced PlayStation VR2, the PS5’s very own next-gen VR headset. Interestingly, they paired that announcement with the reveal of Horizon Call of the Mountain, a new VR-exclusive spinoff in Guerrilla’s series that’s being jointly developed by them and the recently-PlayStation-acquired Firesprite Games.

We didn’t see much of the new Horizon game in its recent reveal trailer, and details on it by and large are scant- but it seems like it might be one looking forward to nonetheless. Chris James – who serves as senior world designer on the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West for three years until about a year ago, recently took to Twitter and revealed that Horizon Call of the Mountain has “been in the works for a while.”

Interestingly, James says that though he didn’t work on this game in particular, he promises it will “change what AAA means for VR.” Of course, James was working at Guerrilla for three years, which means he must have gotten plenty of behind-the-scenes looks at what the VR project is and how it’s shaping up. Some months back, leaks claimed that Sony was shifting its focus in the VR space to larger, AAA games, and this would definitely fall in line with that.

Either way, there’s no word yet on when Horizon Call of the Mountain will launch, but whenever it does, it will, of course, be available exclusively on PS5 with PSVR2. Meanwhile, Horizon Forbidden West is launching on February 18 for PS5 and PS4.

This is been in the works for a while.

I didn’t work on it, but I promise you this will change what AAA means for VR.

It’s amazing. https://t.co/nzXcWLHDoP

Guerrilla Games and recently-acquire Firesprite Games are together working on a new Horizon game exclusively for the upcoming PlayStation VR2.

Sony recently officially announced PlayStation VR2 at CES 2022, and to go along with that, the company has also unveiled the first major game that’s being developed for the VR headset. True to the leaks, Guerrilla Games and freshly-acquired first party PlayStation studio Firesprite Games are together working in a new game in the Horizon series, called Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Details on the game are currently scant, but it’s being described as “a unique new Horizon experience” that is being “built from the ground-up” to fully leverage the hardware capabilities of the PlayStation VR2 headset and all the improvements that the PSVR2 Sense controller boasts.

Players will play as a completely new character, though familiar faces – including series protagonist Aloy – will also show up, along with some new characters. Guerrilla says details on the protagonist and on the game in general will be coming “soon”, but hasn’t elaborated on when exactly that’ll be. There’s no word yet on a launch window either.

A very brief in-game teaser has also been released, the bulk of which is a message from Guerrilla Games studio director Jan-Bart van Beek, with a few seconds of in-game footage being showed off at the end. Check it out below.

Meanwhile, Horizon Forbidden West is not far away from launch either, and is set to release on PS5 and PS4 on February February 18.
