Everything you need to know about Football Manager 2017.

Football Manager 2017 is a professional soccer management game that is the latest installation of a long running series. The game is developed by Sports Interactive and is published by Sega. It was officially released on PC, Mac and Linux on November 4, 2016. Alongside the full game, the companies have also developed a mobile version that has many of the same features known as Football Manager 2017 Mobile. This version of the game is currently only available on iOS.

The Football Manager series goes all the way back to Football Manager 2005 and is built to focus more on running and building a team and though the onfield action is also played out by the user.

In August of 2016, Football Manager 2017 was officially announced as coming later in the year and the official release date was set as November 4, 2016. At the same time that the developers announced the release datethey said those who preordered the title would get a free copy of Football Manager Touch 2017. This is the streamlined, “transfers and tactics” version which doesn’t show as much action that takes place on the pitch. The developers also announced the Football Manager 2017 Touch which will also be available as a standalone release from the same day.

Those who preordered the game were also told they would get access to Football Manager 2017 two weeks early, as the development team was going to be launching a fully playable beta before the full launch. The development team made it clear those who started a career during this beta phase would have everything carry over once the full launch went live.

Story

There is no traditional story when it comes to Football Manager 2017. Like other sports games, the story that can unfold in the game is one that is more about how a season is unfolding on the pitch. Because this game does have the ability to have the player fully assume the role of a manager of a soccer team from almost any country in the world, there are all kinds of stories that can unfold.

There is an ability to get fired if you are not meeting the goals the computer lays out when it assumes the role of the board that oversees whatever team the player is wanting to control. In this way, there is a story about an executive who might have to try and build a team from the ground up, only to get fired and try and do it all over again. There are a few scenes in-game that will contribute to building the narrative but there is not an official story mode that some other professional soccer games have such as FIFA 17. That game has a story mode built into the game where the player takes on the role of a super star but Football Manager 2017 does not have that kind of an option.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Football Manager 2017 is broken up into a couple of different categories. The first part of the gameplay is one where players are building the team in a kind of management screen. These screens are basically laid out in a couple of speadsheet looking screens where players can look at the total budget that is allowed with each team and lay out a plan to add players and remove “troublemakers.”

There are also a number of features that have been included in the game that works in the part where players are actually taking their teams onto the pitch. This allows the players to see how their efforts in building a dominant franchise have paid off. The developers have said they have included a new camera angle that is low and behind the goal. This allows players to better see the action when it comes close to a scoring opportunity.

Goalkeepers have now also been given the ability to pull off some truly impressive saves. This allows the gameplay during the match to look a bit more realistic than it has in the past. The realism of gameplay has also been souped up with the addition of pre-game rituals. Players will now come out before the game and shake hands and lineup. This gameplay again allows for Football Manager 2017 to have a more realistic look rather than just being a sports management sim game.

One of the things that real life franchise managers have to deal with is making sure they can keep their squad as healthy as possible and when they do have an injury they have to deal with it. Football Manager 2017 has features and functions that allow players to deal with injuries that occur to members of the team. There will be training features that can be selected geared towards keeping players healthy, as well as healing them when they get injured.

Scouting and signing star players is another function that will be allowed in the game in the team management screen. Players are given a number of ratings on a wide range of topics and knowing not only what players are the best now but what players will become the best will be a big part of the gameplay. There will be training to make these players better that can be carried out in game as well.

Teams

The teams that are included in Football Manager 2017 are too numerous to mention but they have teams from almost every nation in the world that participates in the major soccer leagues in the real world. In the Football Manager 2017 Mobile version, there are 15 nations that are represented in the game. The developers have announced there are two new nations in this year’s version that weren’t included in previous Football Manager iterations. Those two nations are Poland and Turkey. Those nations are also included in the full, larger version of the game.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game

Bigger, better, and more refined.

Football Manager as a series usually faces more scrutiny with its annual instalments than other annual sports game franchises do. You see, unlike those other games, Football Manager is entirely about the larger metagame of managing a football club, which means you can’t have a whole lot of changes to the moment to moment gameplay that instantly communicate what has changed to the casual bystander. Then again, Football Manager has never been a franchise for casual fans- it’s always been something intended specifically for the hardcorest of all football fans, fans who immerse themselves entirely in every aspect of their favorite sport and their favorite club, people who live and breathe football.

These people love Football Manager because it is, bar none, the most robust and full featured simulation of exactly what it would be like to have your own football club. These are the people who will be buying Football Manager this year (as with all years), and they’re not interested in slightly shinier graphics (though that’s there, if you want it), or new modes (though there are a lot of modes here). Instead, they’re more concerned about whether the reports you get after each match, transfer, and season are now presented better, or whether the general UI, which is all you’ll be spending your time on, has been fixed.

"The match engine, however, is superficial dressing for a lot of the more hardcore FM players- for them, the bulk of their time will be spent in the menu screens."

The good news is that the answer to both of those questions, and to many more, is yes. Football Manager 2017 takes on the excellent base that its predecessor laid down, and builds on it, delivering what is undoubtedly the most compelling entry in the series, and also the definitive football game experience for football maniacs around the world.

The most obvious change in Football Manager 2017 is the match engine, which simulates each match for you on screen- previously, the match engine tended to favor certain kinds of plays and strategies over others (ignoring, in many cases, your own strategies, or even what was happening on field sometimes), leading to an unsatisfying experience. This was a very rare occurrence and was not likely to be something you would notice over even dozens of hours of play. Football Manager 2017’s match engine is more robust- matches play out in accordance to your strategies, players seem to be more dynamic with what they do, and so many games come down to thrilling, nail biting finishes.

The match engine, however, is superficial dressing for a lot of the more hardcore FM players- for them, the bulk of their time will be spent in the menu screens. The good news here is that the UI has been largely improved too. The most significant area that saw improvements was the reports you get- earlier, it was easy to get lost in the flood of menus that would ensue as you tried to go through your inbox. Football Manager 2017 is an improvement over the previous games in the series in that regard, and it is now possible to act on reports from directly within the inbox itself.

"In general, that’s the big theme with Football Manager 2017– it is not a game that focuses on doing much new, it’s a game that focuses more on doing what it already did better."

The game has just become better in general at presenting its tomes’ worth of information to the player better- there are now extremely well designed pre match and post match reports, that tell you what your areas of strength and weaknesses are and have been, allowing you to plan better.

In general, that’s the big theme with Football Manager 2017– it is not a game that focuses on doing much new, it’s a game that focuses more on doing what it already did better. The fixes to the match engine should have made that clear, and that also extends to how the game handles its menus and its UI. In general, the idea here is to make Football Manager more fun to play.

That said, there are new additions to the mix here- the social media feed, for example, which aggregates responses from all social media networks to your various moves, is fascinating, and probably my favorite part of the whole experience. The social media feed shows you how fans are taking to your various victories, losses, and even signings, and true to life, can be hyperbolic and brutal (just wait till you finish a signing the players disagree with- your ego will be tattered and bruised beyond belief).

The social media feed also has the benefit of keeping you connected with the larger football world in the game. Too often as you play Football Manager, it is easy to exist in your own bubble, with the other clubs and events only becoming a consideration when they interact with you in any way. However, the social media feed is not just about you, but also about other clubs and the larger football world in general, ensuring that the world of football manager seems even more authentic and real than it otherwise does.

"Football Manager 2017 is more of the same, just bigger, better, and more refined. For many, that is exactly what the series needed."

The authenticity is also helped by random events in the game- these have always been a thing, of course, and while they can be frustrating, they also reflect how things work in the real world. They have now been updated to reflect some real world occurrences and developments, such as Brexit. The best part is, the game deals with this sensitive issue in the most apolitical manner possible, while still assessing the effect it will have on the larger world around it.

In the end, if you don’t already like Football Manager, this year’s entry is unlikely to change your mind- there’s not much new here, and indeed, the issues that existed in previous games still persist to a large degree. But if the series is your jam, then this year’s entry will appeal to you more than any previous entry- Football Manager 2017 is more of the same, just bigger, better, and more refined. For many, that is exactly what the series needed.

Some tech tips for Football Manager 2017.

Football manager 2017 is here, and for football fans, this is it- this is the game they will be spending the rest of the year on, with hundreds of hours clocked in. Of course, this is a PC release, so in spite of the fact that this is generally not much of a resource intensive game, there will be some errors and glitches out there making life difficult.

But you don’t have to let them get to you. In this guide below, we list out all the most common problems that Football Manager 2017 players have reported, as well as how to address and resolve them. But first, the minimum requirements:

OS: Windows Vista (SP2), 7 (SP1), 8, 8.1, 10 (1607) – 64-bit or 32-bit

Processor: Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core or AMD Athlon – 2.2 GHz +

Memory: 2 GB RAM

Graphics: Intel GMA X3100, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT or AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 – 256MB VRAM

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 3 GB available space

Please be advised that the following methods are to be used at the sole discretion of the system owner. GamingBolt or its staff members take no responsibility for problems that may arise or issues that may occur from trying the below. Always remember that official support is always the best support.

STARTUP ERROR

If you are using a dual GPU setup, make sure the dedicated GPU is the one that you run the game on

Make sure your anti virus and firewall aren’t blocking the game

Attempt to run the game as an Administrator (Right Click->Properties->Compatibility->Run as Administrator)

Make sure your Windows, Steam, DirectX, and drivers are all fully updated

MEMORY ERROR

Go to ~\Documents\Football Manager 2017. Go to ‘games,’ and find the save file that gives you a memory error when you try to play it. Right click, go to Restore Previous Versions, and click on Restore.

Delete the cache

Delete preferences

Verify the cache

If running the game on a 32-bit system, make sure that the total number of players in your game does not exceed 70,000.

BLACK SCREEN

In Steam, Right Click on Football Manager 2017. Go to Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options. Type this in the box: –no_exclusive_fullscreen. Apply and exit.

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of Football Manager 2017.

Though Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Activision’s latest iteration in the yearly franchise, has suffered tons of negative hype over the months, it was expected that such brigading wouldn’t actively hinder the game’s success. As it turns out, though the game debuted first in the UK, Gfk Chart-Track noted that sales are down by 48.4 percent compared to Black Ops 3. Excluding the numbers that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Black Ops 3 would have added, sales still dropped by 44 percent.

Activision released a statement to VG247, stating that, “According to GFK, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the #1 shooter/action game week one launch of 2016 in the UK”

Battlefield 1 dropped to second place while FIFA 17 is in third, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition is in fourth and Titanfall 2 is in fifth place. Other new entry of the week Football Manager 2017 debuted at sixth place followed by Skylanders Imaginators, Mafia 3, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Forza Horizon 3.
