EA now has over 1 million users in their online free to play PC version of Need for Speed called Need for Speed World.  From now until August 6th, which is tomorrow, you will be granted access to the Porsche 959, but only for day, so get a move on it.  Check out the game and download it here.  The one day Porsche prize may only be available to new registries of the game.

Hi-Rez Studios boss Todd Harris says free-to-play games for Xbox Live are nothing but an inevitability. He told Eurogamer that Microsoft has plans to introduce several F2P game on Live. This shouldn’t be a big surprise, since MS has already been discussing this with other developers for some time.

“It’s really just the degree to which the free-to-play model and, even more specifically, constant updates are at – kind of what level of support there is for Xbox, or even PlayStation at this point,”  said Harris.

“So the ability to patch frequently, the ability to have it be free-to-play so users can get a taste without any fee. At least from our conversations, both Sony and Microsoft are moving there strategically but there are still some things to be worked out on both the business side and the technical side and the certification side regarding frequency of patches.

“And those issues just need further advancement before we would be comfortable putting a release timeframe on a console version. It’s not the case of ‘never’, but we know all those things we can handle on the PC, so that’s why PC is first.”

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has missed out on several MMOs like Dust 514 and Final Fantasy XIV (lulz) because of their restricted Xbox Live policies. David Dennis told Eurogamer that Microsoft is  looking at “a lot of different models for distribution”.

“We’re always looking at different models and different ways we can work with partners to bring content out,” said he.

“If you look, for example, at the stuff Kudo [Tsunoda, Kinect creative director] showed onstage at E3 – Kinect Fun Labs – that’s an ad-supported model. Those titles are sponsored. There are different ways you can deploy or distribute games using different types of business models and we’re always open to talking to partners.

“The strength we have in the business right now and the momentum we have allows us to experiment and try different things like that and see what consumers like and what they don’t like.

“If there are experiences that they like and want to download because it’s ad-supported versus what are they willing to pay for it… you’ll see us continue in the future to look for a lot of different models for distribution like that.”

Resistance 3: Global Resistance is a browser based game which wa announced at Comic-Con 2011 and has since gone live.  The whole thing looks pretty cool and even the graphics are not to bad.  From shooter to strategy the game is playable from both the Human or Chimera perspectives. You can jump right into the action here.  It is also not just a simple stand alone title either as playing the game will unlock exclusive content, such as multiplayer skins, in-game titles and XP boosters in the full version of Resistance 3 once it is out this September.  If your a fan you don’t want to miss out on this one so get to it here.

Huge news for regarding Valve and Team Fortress 2 as the game will be relaunching as a free to play title.  So whether your a fan and play all the time or have never played at all the game will now be free, which goes to show you just how generous as well as dedicated Valve is to the gamers.  If you have never played this game, you will now get the opportunity to play one of the most fun first person shooters ever, with game mods and just good old fashion fun, with a ton of humor on the side.  It was originally said to be free from an interview with Robin Walker but has now been confirmed by Valve’s Doug Lombardi.  Go on and play your Team Fortress 2 for free from now on.

This game can be insanely addictive. It’s not much to look at, but by gum is it fun to play. All the characters look like something a kid would make out of Lego- if Lego could wield shotguns. You play as a character, not dissimilar to Rambo, as you face off against waves of the Zombie horde using a multitude of weapons. There are other games in the series, but this is the best, and the most recent.

This is the highly popular disease game that you may have heard about. You control a virus, parasite or bacteria with the aim of infecting the world, and then killing them. You can spread your virus across borders, on planes and on ships. Our disease here at Gamingbolt (SwineFlu!) got a high score of 750,000! See if you can beat that!

This game encourages strategy, cunning and careful resource manipulation. Oh, and a hefty chunk of luck, particularly if you happen to be playing on the hardest setting. You can squeeze a few hours out of this game for sure, especially as it does take some time to work your way up to the highest epoch.

Prepare. For the Last Stand. Zombies. Guns. Ammo. You have to survive 30 days before the evacuation team arrives. Will you hold out? Only your mouse clicking and a crapload of zombies will tell.

These games are really more interactive movies, but they are fun to play nonetheless. You ply Ray, a small time thug who carries out hits against his enemies. The animation is slippery smooth, and it seems to remind me of something…. There are 3 parts to the series, try them all out!

There are many sniper games out there, but the TA series has been always been one of the best. Fiendishly difficult in places, it requires patientce- and a firm mouse.

If you don’t have the original game, but still crave your Quake fix, then this is the game for you. It is faced paced, the weapons have some nice kick, and the graphics are authentically dated (wait…did I say that out loud?).

In order for you not to have heard about this game, you would have had to have been living under a very large and impermeable rock for the past 10 years or so. It is recognised by the Guiness Book of World Records as being the world’s most popular MMO, and for good reason. Provided you don’t mind a game of fantasy (and the occasional paedophile) it is possible to sink thousands of hours into this game. Imagine the browser equivalent of WoW. It is, of course, completely free with the option to pay a monthly fee for some extra content. It features fantastic graphics for an aged, not to mention free, engine, and there is a diverse world to explore, things to stab and people to meet.

This is not a game for the faint of heart. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a doctor in the Middle Ages?  Then this is the game for you. Operate on a ‘variety’ of patients, using a multitude of tools to ‘cure’ them.

They should make people pay for a game of this calibre. In Stick Arena, you control your stickman from a top-down view, and lead him to fight against other ‘stickmen’ online using everything from Katana swords to Mini Uzis.

Boy oh boy, throwing people down stairs is so fun! Seriously, you will never have so much fun throwing people down stairs.

23. Robot Rage

This is another Multiplayer online game, where you build and customize a robot killing machine, then battle it out to the death! It’s a shame about the amount of cheating that goes on though.

Betting has never been so fun! All you have to do is select your badger, then race them. Using ‘cat crap bombs’ and nitrous, you can even ‘influence’ the outcome!

This is none-too-realistic sim of what it is like to run the fast food giant. Manage finances, slaughter your cows, pump your burgers full of enhancers, then sell your burgers. I have never lasted more than about 10 minutes before going bankrupt, but its hugely entertaining all the same.

No sales for poor Mr Macdonald.

42. Mad Shark

Damn those pesky scientists trying to kill me! Swim as fast as you can away from the evil lab-men by boosting your energy by eating fish as you go- or the humans. Bloody, arcade-like fun.

41. Matrix Bullet Time Fighting

Gun? Check. Bullets? Check. Awesome take downs? Check. This game does exactly what it says on the tin. Play as some random matrix dude and battle it out with agents in slo-mo. Fun, no?
