US games reseller Gamefly has had a digital distribution service for PC games for some time now… which is something I just learned now. What I also learned is that they actually sold said service recently to AtGames Holding, although, according to the announcement, GameFly will continue to operate the service till the end of this year.

AtGames will maintain the same privacy policy that GameFly did, and GameFly will be transferring some account information over to AtGames. That, however, does not include financial information, so if that was going to bother you, you can rest easy.

There should really be no interruptions to service otherwise, really, as AtGames has made it clear that it “intends to continue holding true to the fantastic service GameFly Digital has provided.” So it should all be good, and you should be able to continue to play your games that you already have access to, or continue to get access to in the future. For now.

Happy retailers

Today was a big day for the gaming industry after Microsoft has officially announced that they’re pulling the DRM policies from Xbox One.

Store retailers such as GameStop were extremely happy that Microsoft decided to cut off the DRM and bring back the used game market back on track. GameStop makes a majority of their money on used game sales which Xbox One restricted.

This is what GameStop had to say regarding the DRM changes:

“Gamestop welcomes today’s announcement from Microsoft about changes in functionality for its next-generation console, the Xbox One. This is great news for gamers, and we applaud Microsoft for understanding consumers and the importance of the pre-owned market.”

Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder and SVP of business development and content is very pleased to hear that Microsoft has decided to sway away with DRM and let consumers allow to rent games. This is what Sean Spector had to say to Microsoft in regards to being able to rent games for Xbox One after recent DRM changes:

“I always felt good about the future of GameFly, but I feel better today. Today is a win/win for consumers, as well as GameFly. I think choice is always important, and now consumers have more choice. And I give [Microsoft] credit for listening to their consumers.”

Microsoft is now back on track with Xbox One and has finally brought some hope for their next-generation console warfare.

Let us know what you think of this in the comments below.

Yeah, the only reason I posted this is because it got a chuckle out of me, really. It might do the same for you, so check it out.

Here’s what they have to say: Are you sick of getting ripped off when trading in your games? Stop worrying about buying a bad game and getting nothing back for it! GameFly before you buy. With GameFly you can rent the hottest titles out, keep the game, beat the game or play it as long as you want and send it back for a new one when you are done!

Uh, okay. I wish there was a service like this in the developing countries, because such a model seems to be really profitable.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
