Six titles now available for Valve on Steam Software Store.

Valve is known for it’s popular PC titles, such as Half Life, Counter Strike and Left4Dead. So the announcement that it’s first Software titles have launched on Steam via Beyond Games, marking a major expansion to the platform, is a curious one. Are these technically their first software titles? Or the first software titles on Steam?

Or it could just be the first Steam Software Store titles. Regardless, the Software titles now available via Steam are:

– ArtRage Studio Pro
– CameraBag 2
– GameMaker: Studio
– 3D-Coat
– 3DMark Vantage
– 3DMark 11

Many of the launch titles will be taking advantage of popular Steamworks features, which according to the PR release includes, “easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so your files may travel with you”. A lot of these software are quite interesting, especially in that they’re used to for graphical benchmark tests on GPUs. Of course, GameMaker: Studio is the most compelling release.

Create your own games for Steam, Facebook and more.

YoYo Games and Valve Software are bringing the GameMaker: Studio family to Steam with the launch of the Steam Software Store. GameMaker: Studio is touted as being a fast and easy to use cross-platform games development environment that allows users to create games in a single code base and then export with a single button click.

These can then be run on multiple formats including Steam, HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows and OS X. Gamers can download a free version and purchase packages that unlock features, functionality and additional export options. GameMaker: Studio integrates with Steam Workshop, allowing developers to publish games onto the platform, which is of course good news for Greenlight developers.

Mark Richardson at Valve states, “Our community has been asking for us to expand the creative possibilities within Steam and we’ve done that today with the availability of the Steam Software Store and GameMaker: Studio. Now that we’ve provided unprecedented access to and support of the best technology, we hope to soon see a huge surge of great content published to our community and submitted to Steam Workshop and Greenlight.”
