Now Gove is attempting to incorporate computer games into British learning: “When children need to solve equations in order to get more ammo to shoot the aliens, it is amazing how quickly they can learn.” Despite the slightly patronizing picture he paints of computer games, its a pleasing sentiment and a powerful symbol of how video games are becoming an accepted part of mainstream culture.

Gove was talking about the move at the Royal Society in London in relation to Oxford professor Marcus du Sautoy’s Manga High system, which allows educators to reward students with flash games for completing online assignments. According to Gove “these developments are only the beginning.”
